Think the store on Henry Street is the only ones selling what's left of them in the country.

No, all the GS are selling them I think but the Henry St. one is only selling preowned ones.

Does the HDDVD get powered by USB? Or is it a plug in? Like could it be used with my Laptop on train or what ever?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

    It's a plug in.

Hey Van they are new at 9.99

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 432 ✭✭IamBeowulf

Wow, that's an amazing price! Even just for its upscaling ability! The standard, built-in drive only displays 480p when playing DVDs, but the add-on upscales them to 720p/1080i/1080p.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,039 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

€9.99 is that correct? That seems like a crazy price!

I'll be getting one myself at that price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭TomCo

This better not be some kind of joke,
    Im totally getting one!

It can be friends with the Betamax player I got off MonkeyFudge (for only €10 less)

    Quick one -

I don't have any DVD add-on for my 360, will this €10 thingamebob now let me play DVDs in HD? Or is there something else you need for this to work?

    CHEERS!

EDIT Just seen the last post - URK!

EDIT Just seen the last post - URK!

The drive will let you play HD-DVD's which are high definition movies on your XBox. It will also upscale your regular DVD's as well as allowing CD playback. HD-DVD's can be gotten from €3.50 upwards on the net so at €9.99 it's an absolute bargain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

The HD-DVD drive won't upscale your standard DVD's unless you use a HD-VGA cable.

And the standard DVD drive in the XBOX does the exact same degree of upscaling.

But it does do it. Rather handy for when your not using the drive with the 360.

    +1

The standard drive also upscales. The DVD regulators force manufacturers to use either VGA or HDMI cables when upscaling. So the HD-DVD drive has no benefit whatsoever.

Is €10 not a bit much for a door stop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

You'd pay about a tenner alone for the remote.

Got one in Galway today, ask at the counter.

so the only real advantage to having this drive is if you plan to buy/steal HD dvds.
it pretty much does the same as the standard drive, for ordinary DVD's !
    might have a look anyways
