Cool Hand Lukes have kindly agreed to let us use their facilities.
So what I propose is a 16 man tournament on the 24th of May.

Here is what I propose, but im open to suggestion.

€55 a man. (€5 goes to the casino, the rest to the prize fund). 450 for 1st. 250 for 2nd and 100 for 3rd.

Each round will be one 20 minute game, so the first round will take aprox (8*25) 200 mins. We have 2 screens so thats 100mins.

Quatar final will take 50 mins

Semi final will take 25 mins

    Final will take 25 mins

Thats 3 and a half hours. So with some short breaks we could keep it to around 4 hours in total.

This is mainly for people on this forum, so they will be given preference. We dont want a load of pro ev professionals (ie the pro ev forum) taking part!

Ill take deposits in a week or two, which wont be refundable. If you dont make it on the day your money gets added to the prize pool.

Post here if you are interested in playing!

This is the Xbox360 version I assume?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,213 ✭✭✭ITT-Pat

Why are they 20 min games? I would have thought most people play 10 minute games?

A 20 min game takes at least 30 mins to play. Also just because 8*30mins / 2 screens = 120 mins, it NEVER works out like that, there are all kinds of stoppages that cause delays, from extra-time + penalties, to people selecting the formation, to a quarter final being delayed because Round One winner #1 cant find Round One winner #2 cos he's gone for a smoke.

I run a Pro Evo Society in college and we usually get ~16 players, over 3 screens playing 10 minute matches and it takes at least 2 and a half hours to finish.

    Hope this helps

    If it's the PS3 version, I'll play!

How about one of each and it goes down to luck of the draw as to which you console you play on. Draw a card to see which is used for the final.

yeah that seems right, but surely it can be made a two legged final?

EDIT: what i mean is draw a card for the last 16, quarters, and semi-finals and then have the final over two legs, on each console

Here's a question. I've played PES on PS, PS2, and PS3 nearly exclusively.

I've played about 50 games or so on the Xbox360 (b4 i played on PS3) and apart from different joypads I don't remember noticing that much of a difference.....

    So what's the differences?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭Tight Ted

The standard game of Pro Evo is 10 minutes, I've never even heard of someone playing 20 minutes. If you're thinking 20 minutes will reduce variance, I don't know if I agree with the idea. The way it kinda works is Pro Evo is traditionally a 10 minute game and if you can't beat the fish in 10 minutes, well tough ****, that's Pro Evo, should have put away your chances!

What's the console? I'd love if this was on the wii, even though I'm still pretty crap at it.

I was actually thinking of suggesting a tourney of some description, fair play to you HJ for organising this.

If it's on the 360 I'm definitely in and I'll ship you the entry via player transfer on stars if you like.....

Sorry, I should of said xbox 360 only.

My opinion on the timing is that 10min games are the PES equivalent of turbo stts. I was considering having each round a two legged affair, each game 10mins long, but thought a one leg 20minute game is easier to organise, and slightly shorter. If i'm going to the trouble of organising a PES tournament, I want it to be in a good format where the better player has every opportunity to go through to the next round. Obviously there are time constraints, what I would really like is a two legged 15 minute match. Also, if im paying 50 euros into a tournament, I dont want to be knocked out after 10mins of play against someone much worse than me because they got got lucky for a while.

I would dispute that 10mins is a "standard" time frame. I dont think ive played a ten minute match in years. We normally play 15.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭eoghan104

Ill play, I think 20 mins is too long aswell though. I also think if there is 2 screens its only fair to have 1 xbox and 1 PS3. Can you pick whatever team you want?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭boba_fett3099

Inski. Defo one PS3 and one 360 its the fairest way for everyone imo.

What about 4 groups of 4 with the top two from each going through to the quaters??

10 mins in the group and 15/20 mins in the knockout stages?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,794 ✭✭✭coillcam

HJ, pm me your stars SN and I'll ship the entry to you when I get a chance. I'll give it to you on moneybookers/paypal/bank transfer either, whichever is handy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,696 ✭✭✭Hectorjelly

Well as a compromise we could play 15 minute matches.

I would like to do group stages, but it would be too time consuming IMO, even if only 10 minute games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

I could spare whatever length of time it takes for this, even if its like 5 hours. Might as well do group stages.
I like the idea of CL format maybe, with group stages being 15 mins long, next round being say 20 mins long and semis being something like 2 legs of 15 mins and the final being 2 legs of 20 mins or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

Also we could always use more screens if needs be, surely someone could bring a LCD monitor or TV in and hook another ps3/xbox up to it.

Not interested in playing but I could provide up to 10 Xbox 360s if required.

If you guys aren't too fussy about the actual game I could probably get sponsorship from EA (probably a console or year's supply of games) if you go for UEFA Euro 2008.

    Let me know.

Thanks for the offers, we may take you up on the xboxs if we need them. I dont think we can switch the game, it would kind of defeat the purpose of a Pro Evolution Tournament!

lol. I'm as proper a Munster fan as they come and have been for the past 9 years.

The Leinster rugby team represents a small portion of the population of Dublin - particularly South Dublin. They do not represent me in the slightest.

That was directed towards you or anything..........

I just love these Leinster supporters who only come out when leinster has a chance of winning and then jumps on the Munster band wagon every year.............

I actually played for Munster U18 all those years ago

10 min clock for tournament then single heads up matches for whatever stakes people wanna play, put your name down on list, first come first served for the heads up games after, like joining the cash game list.

Ok, so I have played the playstation version, i dont think there is enough difference to warrent using both, the only major difference seemed to be the tilt inducing lag. If you play the playstation version, just try it out on the xbox, Its the exact same game.

Having discussed it with a few people, im happy to go ahead as in the OP, but with 15 minute matches. If we manage to source more Tv's we can change it.

Good idea about the extra games DIT. We can do something like that.

So to book your place you need to give me 55 Euros. You can pay me on Stars, (hectorjelly) or in real life. Post here when you pay me, if you cant pay on stars and dont know me pm me and ill arrange something. 55 Euro = $85

Lastly, it would be really handy for me if i could pay the winners online (back through stars) Then I wouldnt need to cash out the money and suffer netellers increased charges, or convert it to euros. Would this be acceptable? I wont make anyone join up to a poker site!

If you thought i was bad on the ps3, I'm even worse on the xbox cos im not used to the controllers at all. As tilting as the lag is on the ps3, i would still prefer to play it on it

I beat you 7:0 (or was it 7:1?) on the xbox, and 13:1 on the playstation. Therefore you are almost twice as bad on the playstation. I can loan you a pad for a few weeks if you want to get some practice. Just hold it in your hands and whilst watching football and pretend to be controlling one team. I beat barca 4:0 earlier today with this method, but then felt sorry for Henry so switched to barca and scored a consolation goal

Also, you can pick up a 360 for 200euros in town now.

You'd pay for the Xbox and GTA with all the money you'd save from not playing!
