Beaverstown SCC & JCC time sheet is now live for Sat 1st June. Great value at €25 for 36 holes on a course I've enjoyed playing twice before. However from the time sheet it looks like they're playing it as fourballs. Can a member confirm as this is somewhat unusual for a scratch cup and especially a 36 hole event given the time required to play?

ill be at the headfort jsc that day, 36 holes over new/old. tis my fav jsc...

What a serious test of golf, 72 holes of stroke play over two days. What's generally the cut off, would most people on 1.0 get through? Is itself and the Midland's Scratch Cup in Carlow the two biggest, most prestigious?

Pretty much yes to the last answer anyways :)

Cut off I think last year was around 1.4, but members of mullingar can generally get in as long as they are less than 4. not sure what the cut off was this year.

Course was in serious nick. Greens were immaculate. Might be the best I have ever seen them! Followed around a friend of mine who was going grand until about the 15th of the first round and then things fell apart a little bit. Pity for him.

which means I wont be tipping over tomorrow :)

playing myself as a member. always played as a four ball and is always played in good time. you wont have any issue about getting around as the sheet closes at 12 so 12 is the first tee time off the second round.last year we played @ 7.30 and had lunch and played the second round and were finished by 16.00 in four balls... are you playing

Nothing on their website yet anyway or results posted to Golfnet. I played my usual rubbish in it hacking out of the penal rough on the few occasions I could actually find my ball and heard there was a 75 and a few other scores in the higher 70s in for the first round. Good scoring in the wind so not sure if they held it together for the second round as it looked like a lot of people left after 18.

Is Carlow Senior Scratch just 36 this year?

Yes, also known as the Midlands Scratch Cup (I think). Confirmed by a member yesterday who said it was the first time it was moving to a 36 hole format from the traditional 72 in an effort to attract more players. Apparently the numbers had dwindled over the past few years and in order to get a solid timesheet the entry requirement was relaxed considerably.
Not sure if it's just a trial for this year only but sad to see since the only 72 Scratch Cup left now (I think) is the Mullingar Scratch Cup. Must be exhausting but even the 36 hole Scratch Cups are getting few and far between.

. . . Played in carlow yesterday too
. . Great test of golf. Wrecked today. Haven't heard any scores but 75 is an exceptional score in a junior scratch at that venue. . . . Will play there again next year please god

Ya, about 2 weeks ago I think. Don't know any scores. Just that a friend played in it.

no, i think it has been shelved this year completely.

only mullingar then left as 72, with headfort hoping to go to 72 in the next year or two.
