Ok folks let's see if we can get this up and running.

Had a look around and the Fox Sports one looks pretty decent. At the moment they are taking pre-registrations so just go here and drop them your email address -

    http://aflfantasy.foxsports.com.au/

You can pick your team from the 29th of February.

Could be a bit of a laugh even if we only get 8 or 10 involved.

UPDATE: I have just set up my team and the Boards.ie league. Just go to the website, register/pick your team and enter the code for the league which is 231-19. The layout is the exact same as the Fantasy Premier League one if anybody is doing that.

I just picked a rough team for now as you are allowed unlimited changes between now and the first deadline which is Thursday, March 20 at 17.00 EST (that's 6am Irish time, though that'll move to 8am once the clocks change).

    Happy picking!

Yeah I'll get in on this too.

Am doing this one too http://supercoach.heraldsun.com.au/ with some lads I used to work with. Bloody tight salary cap though.

Just entered a team into that for the craic and I have to say I'm very pleased with it!

Glass, Ablett, Thomas, Clarke, Cox, Brown, Lucas, Franklin, Akermanis, Westhoff, Eagleton and Staker all make the starting side with Bateman, Begley and Medhurst in reserve.

And with the most original team name too! :p

I've sent PM's around to those who admitted supporting teams so hopefully that'll get the numbers though 8 isn't a bad start.

Right. I just registered and realised that I have hardly any knowledge of Aussie Rules. This is going to be embarrassing.

come on your a wicklow fan so you cant be that easily embarrassed :) (sorry i really shouldnt be making enemies seen as you will probably humiliate me in this league!!)

Well that's ten in so far and still two weeks to go for sign ups. Good stuff!

I'm in. Though I think my method of team selection leaves something to be desired. I basically sorted by players chosen most by other teams and bought the first 4/5. Surprisingly it left me with 2.5 to spend which I spent bring in Saints players.

    I've just signed up also:D

Did you take your team out? I could've sworn there was 13 in it earlier and now there's only 12.

Only a week to go before the first deadline closes for anyone else who wishes to submit a team. 12 in so far. If anyone has any mates that want to enter feel free to pass on the league code.

pd101 introduced me to this so you better give him the £75 like you promised... Wait this isn't like sky digital??? ;)

4 hours or so to go until the deadline and I've just put the finishing touches to "Retaliate First". Quite a big Port Adelaide presence in the team, which isn't good given the first weeks fixture, but in the long run I hope they'll serve me well.

No Irish interest in my team whatsoever! :p

balls, I forgot to have a last sweep ove my team! Ah sure, they're not the useless donkeys for nothing anyway! Stuck in a few big names at the expense of a few rookies/second year players in other positions. Hoping Pavlich, Brown, Ablett, Cox can do the business for me!

i think it really says something about the strength in depth of our league the fact that the top guy has twice the amount of point as the rest of us :D:D
Go on Alf Stewarts army, lets call the league off now, il take second please.

*edit* i jumped the gun a bit there, sorry, didn't realise there was such few appearances already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

538 points for me from my first three players. Oh yeah!

EDIT: Jays Des, Gary Ablett on the bench? WTF?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Skittlebrau

So far so good but there's a hell of a long way to go yet.

Way too much dead wood on my team that I have to get rid of. I reckon I have about 6 players that won't get a minute this year. Need to find some bargains.

what would be a good score to be targetting weekly would you reckon to remain competitive? The psychology of the premiership soccer one is messing with my head, where i think 60-70 is a decent score, and iv 200+ point here after 2 players bloody play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Skittlebrau

Haven't done this FoxSports one before but I did a couple of others last year and an average of 100 points a player per game was a good score. Not too sure how this scoring system compares though.

He's on the interchange, you still get points for those I'd imagine...

The system is confusing alright, especially if you're doing a Premiership one at the same time. Dean Cox got well over 200 points and it takes me 3 or 4 weeks to get that in the football one!

EDIT: Just made my 4 transfers for next week there. Gettin in some of the good point scorers before their values shoot up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 387 ✭✭hanton12

Yeah it can be a bit confusing alright, kinda hard to know what you are looking for in a good player, I suppose the main thing I was looking for in picking the team was players who get high disposals in a game. Made my 4 transfers too to get rid of some of the early dead weight I have and pick up cheap good players. Didnt have too bad of a first round anyway. Long season tho!

Quite happy with my performance in Round 1. After losing Scott Lucas to injury today though which is a massive blow considering I've already made my transfers for next week. We should have suitable cover though.

Average score in the overall game was 1705 points and 6 from our league managed to score higher than that with a couple more not far off. Well done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭cabra64

Yeah quietly pleased with the progress so far. Abit concerned that a few of my "stars" managed to get no points! i picked my team based on just the money players were worth. works for the fantasy prem leag. Hopefully my trusty logic holds thro.

Can i be cynical for a second and ask how many aussies have entered? im irish and haven't a breeze. Martin Clarke would want to pick it up a level or two tho or he'l be gettin the sharp shunt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 567 ✭✭✭Skittlebrau

Dunno about Aussies but I'm Irish and on top of the league.

Helps that I've been here 2 years though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭cabra64

true. its a tricky enough set up a reasonable array of cheaper players when your picking on chance alone. next task is to check for an injuries. Good few of my players scored zero.
    eg: Scott Lucas injured.

i'm sorry i'm not sure of the etiquette involved with a forum like this, i just got a little excited that maybe there was some people in ireland discussing footie, i've just returned home from australia after 5 years, and the hardest thing to leave behind was the footie. i'm a little bit crazy about tipping and the picking teams... i would be delighted if someone could help me out with understanding how everyone replies to each other as it seems a little haphazard....

    much appreciated...

No Martin Clarke for the Pies last night. I think I'm gonna cut him this week.

Yeah I cut him after the first round. He's a good player, a great player even, considering how long he's been over there but he just doesn't score heavily enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭cabra64

Yeah he's on my cut list also. i hope he does turn into a one season wonder. kevin doyle springs to mind.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 387 ✭✭hanton12

we have the 15th best league in the competition too! All going well so far anyway for the donkeys at the top of our league. hope to keep it going now. In the top 50 of the eagles fans too which is good!

and wrt Clarke, I read an interesting article in some rag he writes in while I was at the barbers yesterday. Saying how he doesnt grab a game like he used to in Gaelic and that he now just hides and covers his man rather than get on the ball and make something happen. If he knows he is like that, then he should try correct it, so hopefully he does.

Oh, and also with Doyle being a one season wonder? He was the best player in the Eircom league, went to the championship and won player of the year in his first year, and then followed that up with a good first season in the premiership, being one of the top scorers. Granted, he hasnt been as good this year, but who has from Reading? Have had a poor year in general, but he is still one of the better performers this year. Even yesterday his workrate was excellent. He'll get his gola scoring form back.

Some super points tally's in our league this week.

I've made a few transfers already. Brought in Murphy from the Dogs, our own Colm Begley and Geelong's Joel Selwood. Have a bit of cash that I'm gonna use to replace Calrke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Had my best week so far this week, fourth week in a row over 2000 points and up to the lofty heights of 3rd. Happy with that (especially considering I haven't seen any hint of a game since last August!).
