Well you had two teams working on them.

Infinity Ward did CoD 1,2,4 and MW2. IW are now gone for the most part and have reformed as Respawn and are now working with EA on another franchise and are suing Activision for withholding royalties on the profits of MW2. 1,2 and 4 were the best of the CoD games IMO.

Treyarch did the console CoDs on the Xbox1 and PS2, CoD The Big Red One and then they did CoD3, WaW and now this Black Ops.

Activision have got another dev team on board to replace IW to do MW3 and what ever else that Activision want to milk money out of.

Infinity Ward were responsible for most of the 'good' CoD games.
Remember CoD 3 with all it's clipping issues and the 'bullet magnetism' that meant that every time you got from behind cover all the ai controlled enemy immediately directed all their fire at you, no matter what the difficulty setting or how many other targets there were? Yeah? Well that was a treyarch production. The only semi-decent thing they've done is CoD: world at war multiplayer, and that was only decent because it was a straight copy of the innovations Infinity Ward had made with Modern Warfare.
I think this new CoD is going to be generic and formulaic, using a few tips learned from IW and rebadged as something new.
I'm gonna wait to see what Respawn (aka Infinity Ward without Activision behind them) come up with next. But whatever you think about IW or Treyarch you have to wonder about the logic of firing the people responsible for the biggest media release ever. I mean didn't MW2 shatter all sorts of records - not just games - but across the board? To shaft them on royalties (if that is what happened) is sort of like being the guy who decided to pass on the beatles...

That was what, a minute of teaser trailer, and people are saying it's sh!t already....

Clearly it's just the mindset people have gotten in with the COD games, reason why i like them less because ActiveBlizzard or what every they're called now, have just become money grabbing whores, in fairness to them, their games are great just things like removing dedicated servers and mod tools for PC, is basically killed off PC gaming on COD series. Which they did, because they can mould the game like the ****y console matchmaking format through stream, and charge for DLC, and at some stage down the road, charge for playing the game.

Well as far as I'm concerned if they can't even make a some way half decent trailer I'm not expecting much from the game itself. Call it a mindset, call it whatever you like its just my opinion.

+1 on that...

I'm hoping that I'm wrong, but I'm basing my opinion on treyarchs previous outings, which were all poor to complete rubbish, depending on how generous you want to be. For me a game needs to have decent single and multiplayer to be worth the cash these days ... so many have managed one but rarely both. Treyarch usually create games that have so-so multiplayer (with the exception of World at War, which was decent in fairness) but single player that's riddled with AI issues, clipping and generally makes you so frustrated that you abandon it half way through.
But what the hell do I know ... I like to shoot bbs at people at the weekend and think multicam is acceptable for going to the pub (inc. plate carrier and drop leg), so perhaps my perspective is not the most valuable.
