The things I don't like about Christmas are the commercialism and people moaning that they don't like Christmas, just to get attention.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭kleefarr

    Too right....

Over commercialised and self indulgent. Kids too spoilt as well.

Bah humbug! (Seriously, same as Easter)

Christmas gives us a focal point upon which we can give to those who have supported our lives, nothing more. Use it as an excuse to be happy and enjoy life, goodness know, its something we do so rarely in this world.

I love the whole family thing, thats what its all about for me, but its just mad the way childrens toys commercials are rammed down our throats.

From early October the kids channels are back to back commercials for "buy me im fun" toys...its head wrecking. Adds for toys should be banned before December!
Bah humbug its too early, 3 months of santa letters is 2.5 months too many!

I used to love Christmas when I was a kid but in the last few years it's just become a source of stress for me and most people I know are the same. Its a lot of shopping and worrying about money etc for one stinking long, boring, depressing day.. And this year will be even more depressing because last year the entire holiday was spent either at Beaumont hospital or waiting by the phone cause my little cousin was critically ill and ended up passing away on New Years Eve.. So this will be her first Xmas 'away from home' :o

    So bah humbug all round..

Sorry that was a bit depressing wasn't it... :o
Just a bit! Very sad though, sorry to hear.

Me, I'm just finding the whole thing to be a pain in the arse since my parents went their seperate ways a few years ago. Constant phone calls and discussions on who should go where, who should do what... My sisters have young families now and are both pregnant so they're constantly tired and stressed out, my brother visits from Spain and needs somewhere to crash... did I mention I find Christmas to be a pain in the arse?

Maybe we could organise an alternative Christmas. One that doesn't involve telling our families our arrangements.

    Oh that's awful. Really sorry...

Y'see, people like the above have good reason to dislike Christmas, but those who don't have any major problems and have their families around them on December 25th and just say "I don't like Christmas" because they think it's kinda cool, are like sulky teenagers.

Christmas is a kids holiday. Its brill when you're 8 or if you've got a few kids around I guess. When the "kids" in the house are in there 20's its just a drag. I have it all said by 6pm but there's nowhere to go and nothing to do...aaaghhhh.
So true , its also an excuse for some adults to over indulge in more alcohol but it is the season of indulgence and i dont wish to sound like a kill joy ,it's just all the pretentious crap that goes with it and lots of people just want to get away from it ...see i am sounding like a kiljoy ..bah humbug

Would it be hot and bright if the 25th of December wasn't Christmas?

Christmas is a good time. Muppets say it isn't. Just muppets.

Always liked Christmas, other than seeing some people that I'd rather forget (distant relatives and random old neighbours). Since I moved to Rome recently the intensity of commericalised Christmas has really been toned down. I guess, if you can, find the Christmas that suits your outlook on the day.

    Ah now here.

For people who have lost those close to them around this time, Christmas is dreadfully painful.

For those of us who have seperated parents, Christmas can be a painful time when all the people who are supposed to be mature and our rocks act like 2 year olds because we spend 15 minutes more with another relative.

For those of us who worked in retail, we have seen Christmas bring out the horrible, ugly, materialistic side in people, and had Christmas music rammed down our throats. It got to the point where I personally began resenting Christmas for the way it made people behave.

So I would disagree with your muppetry statement there. :)

I love the Christmas atmosphere, but I hate when Christmas day arrives and relatives arrives with presents by the carload. All "presents" are is junk that the buyer likes, but nobody else wants. My house is reasonably big, but it bacame swamped with toys and clothes last year - it was difficult to find a place to put everything. My children forgot completely about what santa got them and became frustrated because they didn't know what to play with next! The 2 older kids ended up with 4 coats each, 3 of which have never been worn. How I long to be able to visit an orphanage and donate all the presents there instead.
In the 80's, we only got what our parents gave us, but we were happy with that and things were too expensive for relations to go out and buy for us.

i like christmas dinner, "spaceman came travelling", the idea of giving and receiving presents (although forced, localised generosity sucks, imagine if it was spontaneous!), the way town looks on christmas eve, and home alone.

i dont like the effect christmas has on people. my family never fight more often than at christmas. it sucks.

    so overall, i hate christmas.

Am I annoying you all yet?!?

    i:p

I wish to kill you now, MURDER!

I dislike Christmas, and yes it's Christmas, not X-Mas or 'The Holidays', it's a Christian holiday, if you don't like it don't acknowledge it, don't come around bitching about people forcing their religion on you, get over it!

I HATE, LOATHE & DETEST all Christmas music, I'm so sick of the same crap every year and yet some manager thinks it's a good idea to pump out this aural garbage in the hopes that it will make people think about the things that they could spend their money on in that store. Which would be fine, but apparently it's effect is increased if you play Christmas music for 2 months before Christmas too.
