Ya, stop talking about UCD. Ididn't go there, therefore can't join in, therefore want you all to get back on topic.

Edit to say that Bops is finally right about one thing, '94 was THE year to start college.

A bit of a hammering? If it was a boxing match the ref would have stopped the fight.

    Great Reading Ian,

    Few questions.....

What was it like arriving into Bangkok - did you have a 'holy sh1t wtf am I doing here moment'?

What is the 'long term' plan? Are you sticking around in Thailand for long?

What do you think your biggest leak is? (in NLH)

Also - go to Chang Mai and Chang Rai.....by far the best places in thailand....

I suspect its a running joke at her dinner table.

You mentioned firing more c-bets, 2nd/3rd barrels, floating etc. Obviously this can be player dependant but do you need to vary these depending on the stakes, i.e more so at 5/10 than 2/4?

Is this a gradual transition as you move up stakes or something you employ consistently regardless of what level you're playing?

What about for microstakes (say .10/.25, .25/.50) how would your stats look then and what would you consider good stats or I suppose the stats of a player to avoid at those levels?

yeah it's a huge city and can be very intimidating at first. once you get to know your way around its a ncie place to live. loads of stuff to do and see every day.
    marius wrote:

Travelling indefinitely with a friend around the world. I'd guess for about 2 years.
    marius wrote:

Firing too many 3rd barrels in really bad spots where it's obvious the person isnt folding.

yeh ive heard both places are great and theyre the only places ive yet to see. looking forward to it.

The lower I play the less I bluff as a general rule. As you move up through the levels, the games become progressively more aggresive, so you need to adjust all these frequencies accordingly. If you dont play aggresively you'll just get run over.

I'd look to avoid people who's PFR% is close to their VPIP, the 22/18 and 18/16 types, they're usually the better players but i dont know if they're around the lower levels. People who I buudy list are generally loose preflop - VPIP of 30+, quite passive preflop, PFR of 10 12 or less and passive postflop. These types of players are just so easy to read that it's like free money. Obviously the higher someones VPIP goes the better. Even at 2/4 and above you still find the occasional 70/3/1.2 fish.

What advice would you have for stop loss policies?
I find my biggest problem is knowing when to stop, both when im winning and losing.

I would recommend stopping if you're feeling bad, tired or tilted or if your losses are affecting your game. If you're still feeling great but are just running badly then I think it's fine to play on. I often stop when Im stuck for 3buyins regardless of whether im playing well or not, because I think there's probably some kind of subconscious reaction to knowing that you're well in the hole for the day.
Did/do you ever cap your play by hours/hands played/amount won/lost?
    Cheers.

Not really. Sometimes I'd play 1k hands and then stop but now I just play until I'm not in the mood/running bad/feeling tired

Ian top job so far answering these questions. Its been a great read. I have a couple for you.

    1. If you could invite 4 people to dinner, past or present, who would in be?

Hmmm. Good question. 4 random people I think are cool, though im not sure what they'd be like as conversationalists at a dinner table are Bill Hicks (the greatest comedian of all time), Bob Dylan (probably not the greatest dinner guest), Ted Hughes and DaVinci (with interpreter)

I would expect to be destroyed in the game. I've no idea who the fish are but I hear Gus Hansen is a big donator.

None that I can think of.

Miniscule if any. I just like the privacy. A lot of people who plays the same levels as me on boards have swapped SNs.
    semibluff wrote:

Yeah they're everywhere in Thailand, but Bangkok has the most by far. I was reading the Bangkok post the other day and saw an ad for a cosmetic surgery clinic. All regular treatments advertised and then "sex change $1400" down the bottom. I would have thought that a procedure that complicated would have cost way more. Apparently there are loads of foreigners come to Thailand every year to get sex changes. Each to their own I guess.

Jesus. Lets just assume both tables are the same. There are loads of people who would make the list but I have no idea what their namesare.

Favourite cash - Chief, Eddie The Eagle, Tadhg, Mick The Lip, Michael Jackson, Bad Beat Joe, Ravi, Murat and Kelly (god bless her)*

Least favourite pokerwise - Jbravado, Buchan, HalfBaked, Liam Barker, Lloyd, NicNic, Dave Masters (just cos he never shuts up :p), AKQJT and Flushdraw.*

*Lists are liable to change at any given time and would probably be different if i was asked again in 10 minutes. I'm really just pulling names out of a hat and im sure there are people ive omitted who'd definitely make those lists

Disclaimer: All events recorded below may or may not be based on real events

When I was 19/20 myself and a load of friends all got into the rave scene. So many legendary stories, but this is one that always sticks in my mind.

So one weekend a couple of our friends were DJing at a gig down in Wexford. We'd stocked up on all the necessary commodities which were entrusted to me in a ten pack of John Player blue in the back of the car. As we were leaving my estate, I was already half way through the makings of a joint, when a car drove up on the curb beside us and told us to pull over.

I suddenly realised that the box of party materials was sitting right beside me on the back seat of the car. Gripped by panic, I did a palm and slide up the sleeve that David Blaine would have been proud of. So, we were asked to get out of the car at which point I handed up the nodge from which I'd been working. Qucik unintrusive pat down, details taken and we were away again. Phew.

The next hour or so went swimmingly other than the fact my 3 companions in the car were grief stricken about the DS' find earlier so now they were forced to chain smoke cigrettes instead. Passing through Wicklow and suddenly the car starts shaking. Then crash. A huge bang followed by a loud screeching noise comes from the car. We look back and see the cars gear boxing sparking along the road.

Still naive that the weekend is ill fated, we abandon the car on the hard shoulder, get on the phone to some of the other people who are en route and they pick us up for the last leg of the journey.
