Lots and lots of nights like this getting organised at the mo.

We're going to be following Vegas Nights tournaments for the first week in September.....We've organised a night in Cool Hand Luke's (Sept 15th from 5pm) and we're going to be all over the country doing this.

We'll be accepting cash from players and will sign anyone without an ounce of interweb skills up to Mermaid there and then or shortly thereafter, whichever works best...For all the rest we will simply transfer money on to Mermaid.

Online is the way forward as regards paying for stuff and booking tickets etc. Any Wayne's World fans on Boards?.....'Get the net'.

The Montrose Hotel in Donnybrook is about 10 min walk or 4 min Taxi to The RDS
poker ireland have acquired a rate of €79 per room for 1 person or €89 per room for 2 persons, which aint bad at all
as usual there is lots happening in Dublin that weekend so, rooms are scarce

ISOBEL is your contact in The Montrose Hotel 01-269-33-11

ps, the 10 minute walk calculation will very much depend on the amount of alcohol consumed, add 10 mins for every 10 pints

    :)

We're going to be really strict about alcohol on the premises lads and ladies.....There will be no alcohol allowed on the premises of the Shelbourne Hall on Oct 6th and anyone that has had one too many will not be allowed on site.

There will be a lot of main stream attention on the tournament and as far as the law is concerned poker and drink do not go together.

Only 81 players have fully signed up so far.

Its 5 weeks or thereabouts to the tournament, should I be worrying??? Because I am.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,513 ✭✭✭RoadSweeper

Maybe have 2 sats a week on mermaid?

    They were getting good numbers?

People are just lazy, especially people who play poker, and students; so students who play poker...

I can't be bothered to sign up and leave money sitting an account for a couple of months when i can just leave it until whenever the deadline is (i guess that says something, you're going to all the trouble to setting this up and haven't gotten around to spending 10mins to sign up....), and everyone else is probably like that.

You probably shouldn't worry about it since I'm sure you're just going to see a huge rush of people at the end. i guess u could have some incentive to encourage people to sign up early if you're beginning to panic?

500 - 1000 extra chips 'early bird' for those who register before Sept 6th might be an idea. Or something like that? (I'm already registered btw);)

    OPEN ENDED

    82 preregistered as of now

with 16 days to the National Student Championships, there was only 30 players registered

    so 30 /400
    or 82/1000
its about the same % give or take, so not as bad as it looks
    am i worried ?

    not in the least

you wait n see, poker players are what i call, last minute rush merchants

sure dont i do it myself all the time

The incentive we have is in the team event with over $2,600 added but we are aiming for 1,000 players overall and tbh I'm trying to keep the team event relatively small.

There are only about 40 Irish players registered so far into the main event and I was hoping all our good intentions would get more people on board at this stage.

From everyone that I'm talking to in clubs and pubs I think the vast majority of players are going to play but I just hope that we have enough to get the numbers we want.....

For anyone that knows they are going to play on Oct 6th please register today. I can't say this enough; the more players we get registered now the more we will have on the day and therefore we will be all that more likely to make the €125,000 prize-pool. If players hear that there are already 150/200 players registered by the start of September then we would have a massive tool in terms of publicity but that looks unlikely to happen at this stage :( .

Once you are registered you can unregister at any time before Oct 6th. So if you do have to cancel late on you're not losing out.

Hey Stephen I am registering tonight, paid of the credit card and now to put more money onto the account :(

As I spoke with you before I want to register a team, the thing is all my friends don't have credit cards and are slow to do anything (as in go into one of the casinos where they can pay by cash). Can I register the team and try get as much people to register as soon as possible? Can you please PM me on this matter. Thanks

On another note, for the student tournament you held do you remember I transfer money to your account for DCU students? I was thinking about sending an e-mail to all the PokerSoc members to see could we set something up for them to give the Society money and we give it to you like the student tourney you had??

160 yo yo will do the trick for cash and it will mean you have about $10 left over to check out Mermaid site. Don't forget its not the same bank account as last time.... stephen@pokerireland.ie

    Cheers Paul.

my mates are similar - a few of them use their girlfriends credit cards to lodge online or they lodge money in PP shops etc; seeing as Mermaid dont allow players to register with other peoples cards, they'll end up having to pay in cash i'd say.

are u planning on headn down to limerick, or would it be possible for them to pay at fitzpatricks to register?? a few of them have played there on occasion and it may be easier to get people registered that way...

the thing is i have accomodation etc all lined up, all they need do is register, but thats too much of an effort it seems. typical eh!

"""seeing as Mermaid dont allow players to register with other peoples cards""

Please, we are definatley not stricter then anyone else in this.
Am myself a player and are registred and lodged money in over 20 different accounts and not in one place even has it stated different in T&C.

It is not allowed to lodge with another persons creditcard and I already had to sort out several of those from you lads ;-) since your account gets blocked so please find other ways.

    Regards
    Anna

We can arrange that in Fitzpatrick's but we will be making our way down there ourselves too.

Anyone that wants to pay cash only has to send me a quick email stephen@pokerireland.ie

    Hi Neill,

I've sent out posters to Blazing Aces and every one of your venues. I posted you flyers yesterday (you should have them today) but I have no posters left  ......If you haven't had any posters delivered I'm going to be very upset :)

Cheers for the support, we're hoping to do a little better than ok though :)

87 registered so far.....Keep 'em coming lads.....I'm going to count this up to 1,000 if I have to :)

Don't forget as per the other thread, IPO satellite tonight at 8pm on Mermaid.
Usually gets 15/20 players so might make two tickets tonight.

the closing date for the team event is looming fast, midnight 2 days time

after which new entries will not be considered

if you have a mind to enter a team, get your name in like now

added cash might not mean that much to you, but if its value you are after, look no further

    get in while you can

Hey Stephen whats up with the IPO? I was on mermaid there to register, I thought it was €150?? I went to put in 150 and it convert to like $195 that aint enough to pay for the tournament?

Does this mean that everyone will be paying different amounts for the tournament depending on the currency exchange??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 54 ✭✭ShadowBJ21

Wow, that's a bad exchange rate you got there. What kind of deposit method did you use?

The $170+35 Buy-In at Mermaid is almost exactly €150 with a fair exchange rate. Even if the rate gets worse it shouldn't differ by more than $1 or so.

Don't register just yet Conor......I'm going to get the tournament put in the lobby in Euro if this is not just some sort of mistake.

It was originally supposed to be in Euro but Anna had some difficulty with the network. Don't pay any more than €150 for entry.
