Hows all your prep going for IST, fitness etc....?being a zimmer frame guy 39....(Well i do feel like a granda here, everyone seems like 12..lol)

Im struggling a bit with the fitness side of things, trying to fit it into family life is DARN HARD !!! Im ex services and didnt expect this side to be as hard...just shows how much i was kiddin myself about my fitness level !

Dont under estimate it or leave it to late....hope i havent..

I have a friend in training at minute and to be honest I envy him like hell,:(hes havin a ball, hard but really enjoy it
Hi, mate i would not worry about your fitness so much, you will have at least 8 months to work on it. And 8 months is if your lucky enough to get passed medical and vetting first and get taken on with the first batch of C14.Could take longer than a year. So relax and build up the fitness slowly, worst thing you could do is jump straight back into training like you were in the services and totally burn out.Take time to build up and you will enjoy it much more.Best of luck!

    Hey Stephen,

I've got my initial test on 21st April, im lookin 4ward to it!

    wat bout u?

    Heya Yankee.

My IST is on the 19th May in Armagh.
So im going to have to start and do some practice tests soon :p

Anyone know the contents of the IST?
Theres a written and Numeric part to the test i know. (that can be seen on the consensia website)
However, there are rumors that there is a Role Play in the Initial Selection Test. Is there any fact to these rumors ?

    ~Stephen

There is no truth to that at all.

The Initial selection test is completely seperate from the assessment centre.

If you pass the initial selection test you will get a date to attend the assessment centre, there will be role plays at this.

Read back through the forum as everything about the whole process from beginning to end has been covered.

    Stephen142,

Goodcopbadcop is right, role plays are at the assessment centre, u only do them if u get past the initial test. I did the initial test last year failed it by 4 marks. I found part A and B really really easy, part C was slightly harder tho, i ran out of time on the part C, thats where i maybe lost my marks at. Dont worry about them! There is no real way u can practice. Just have a look at the practice paper on Consensia's web page, thats the format of the test. I only got to the initial test stage but if u have any other questions let me know

    Hey Carlty888,

So u've applied 4 this current campaign. This is my second time trying. Tried last year failed initial test my 4 marks (dumb ass). Got my initial test on Mon 21st april 2008.

    Wat bout u

    PapaYankeeGirl,

This is the third time for me. Failed the Assessment Centre the first time and then got through to the merit pool in the last campaign. Didn't score high enough to get in though. Maybe this time??!! My IST is a couple of days after yours.

The innitial test is tricky enough. Just remember not to spend too much time on any one question. If it's taking too much time, move on to the next one.

    Carlty

Howdy :) Can any of you lucky successfuls tell me how long it was between passing your medical (with vetting complete) and getting word as to whether you would be offered a place... or not if the case may be :( Thanks!

Anyone from campaign 13 got news one way or the other. communication from the psni seems to have dried up a bit this last while, they must be getting their next intake sorted.

Also has anyone noticed how the page numbers of the thread has just shot up to like 139, It was at 104 yesterday?

Don't want to get your hopes up too much, but I would say the next few weeks will have something good waiting for you in the post. ;)

Yeah, I noticed that. They must have cut back on the number of posts per page or something.

They are not doing the car reg test this year so no need to worry about that one:D

I had a feeling it was being left out this time. I remember at the beginning of campaign 13, consensia had information about it on their site, however this time there seems to be no word of it.

It was a bit easy anyway, I would say most people got 100% in it so maybe this is why its been taken out.

    Jim2008,

How do you know that? What is part A going to be then? Is Part B and C going to be the same?

If it was going to be on it the practice tests on the consensia website would include examples of them like they did last time.

Obviously can't say for sure it won't be included but it looks like it wont to me.

I assume there will just be two parts to the test now. The Verbal reasoning and the harder math based section.

    Goodcopbadcop and Jim2008,

Just went on to consensia web page, it seems like there is only goin to be a part A and B. I was really bad at the maths part last time, i even got the practice question wrong, but then again so did half the room of hopfulls :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Most people struggle with alot of the questions in section B, and from what I have heard no one finishes it, so don't worry too much.

If you can't answer a question leave it out and move on. There are a few easy marks as well as some very hard ones, don't waste time on the hard ones.

In the mean time if you are worried about your maths you should find a way of Improving it. Look around the internet for sites with tips or even get one of the books mentioned which has practice questions.

There is only one thing you can do about that, Practice! There is a book some of the C14 people where talking about in earlier posts, dont know any details on it but from what people were saying it has similar tests to practice. When i done my test i didnt even look at the practice question i spent the few mins studying the data sheet to get an idea were the information was located so when the time started i already had an idea were to look, just a suggestion but it helped me.

You wont! The next intake is at the end of may so letters should be sent out in the next few weeks.

London marathon?? That is just showing off!

I am in the same position of having passed medical, but I haven't phoned about my vetting as I don't think anything they tell me could make me feel any better, prob just give me more questions with no answers! However my patience is really starting to wane!

Also I am very worried about my fitness, have been working hard in the gym for a couple of months and have lost weight and toned up, but not feeling remotely fitter!! Dreading the thought of being the last person in the class!!:(

Is it possible to arrange a different IST date ? My one is on May 7th but a family issue has arisen. I dont want to miss my chance for another year.

I know it has to be put in writting as a request..but does anyone here know anyone who has changed their date or am I wasting my time asking?

hi I got "The Police Selection Process, by Ian Hutchison" It is very helpful for part A although it contains just regular maths questions, no table reading, I can only guess that any math work would help you improve, as I’ve noticed a slight improvement and as for the rest of the book and DVD I can see this becoming very useful for the A/C, if get that far fingers crossed. I would say a very good investment.

    Hey Guys,

PSNI (or anyone else that knows),

Is a caution for underage drinking at the age of 16 likely to hinder my application? Ive no idea how strict the vetting process is. Although im pretty sure they told me at the time that it was to be cleared at the age of 17, Im just wondering if this is the sort of thing that could filter you out, when considered for such a job.

The website states that cautions (even juvenile) dont completely disregard your application, but that they are subject to consideration, with regards to the nature of the offence and the time elapsed. Just interested to know anyones opinion on this?

Oh what a silly girl I was :(

As it has already been said you should take that information down. Psni will probably do it anyway.
