It looks like the PSNI is for me but i'm a catholic from west belfast i dont want to patrol my own area and tell seamie down the street to stop selling blow as he'll burn my house down. when i join can i choose a station to work from?
I also wondered about moving up the ranks and whether a degree or military experience would help me move up the ladder?
Does the PSNI have a unit similiar to the Gardai's ERU and how hard is it to get into?
    Thanks for all replies

Hi, from reading previous posts you get to submit your top four stations where you would like to be and submit areas where you do not want ,but you must have reasons why. I would say being from west belfast they would definitely not station you there. Yeah psni does have a unit similar to ERU, not sure of details. Dont think military experience would help you move up the ladder but it is definitely good experience to have. I would say a degree would be good to have for promotion??Maybe psni could answer that one for you better. Did you apply for C14??

Loved every minute of tonight folks, can't wait to start now. Really excited!! I get the feeling the trainers/PE staff and especially the Chief will be tough - but the amount of support they'll give us ahead was really felt tonight. Bring on 20th April!!

    Ta ever so! :D

there was a thing on bbc teletext the other day saying that 1/5 of the PSNI is now female and they expect this to rise to over 1/4 in the next couple of years. Highest percentage in any UK police force.

    Conor123,

Yeah i read on UTV's web page that 22% were women and it was to rise to 26% by 2010. Dont know if that means ill get in though!

Hey! I was put into B class, the trainers seem really friendly and supportive. A lot more relaxed about the whole thing now. Still got shopping to do myself....and Tucker I agree, the ironing and bulling's gonna be the worst for me too......I hope someone shows us how!!!

Yeah, low insurance sounds good to me - if I pass the driving course that is. I recognised a guy from my year in school. Only remembered his nickname, so didn't speak to him. I can remember his name now, so will have to say hello. You're right, small world. My class all seem friendly enough. It's great to know we're in the same boat with all this stuff. So yeah, it'll be good getting to know everyone.
