If I pass my IST ill discontinue my application for the role player post with conflict of interests and what not. .

I’ve been waiting for years to join the PSNI and only done A-Levels to pass the time until im 18 and now (provided I pass IST) I have to wait months before I hear anything. Such a long process! I’m left with the decision to either go to Uni and get my degree because I’ve been accepted into criminology courses which will help me get into the PSNI and help me when im in etc or do I just take a year out and work in the hope that I make it in this campaign?? Hard decision!!

Let me tell you from experience... I have a very good degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice and you have to go through the process like everybody else. It might help once in but as far as the recruitment process goes it does not make one bit of difference.

My advice would be go to uni... it is always good to have a back up plan

Ciaran I was in the same place as you last year. I decided to go on to University. There is no certainty of getting in to the police first time, so I went to uni as a back up. I would advise you to do the same until you get the call up.. You will have a good time as well.

CooperCop, they just sent me out a pack with the letter of invitaion in it, plus some info on the course/programme.
I was a shift worker so was hard to track down. Keep the chin up;)

Hello to the successfull campaign 13ers.
Just wondering how recruitment contacted those who were working 9-5? I'm getting a little ahead of myself 'ere but worried that recruitment may not easily contact me over the phone while working. Has anyone simply heard news of a job offer from a letter only. Gemmat? Did they ring your mobile?

I wonder what is the earliest date they will start selecting for the May25th intake? I guess if they've offered places on the May intake for some who can't make March/April intakes, then recruitment may have lists of names started?

    Hey there!

From what i have read you either get a phonecall or a starting pack just appears in the post!

I work 9-5 and i just assume that if they were trying to get hold of me they would leave a message on the voicemail...??? Could be wrong.

You are in the same boat as me as far as i remember CooperCop...?? Everything done and just awaiting a final decision???

Yes the map is bad, i was expecting better from the police. Go to the AA route finder and get a route, cause it all depends were you are coming from, you cant miss seapark its on your left just before coming into carrickfergus if your coming up from belfast direction. There is also a subway in carrick if you are early [ always helps:D]

I didnt get a phone call unless i did and never knew it as i was at work and never got a call on my mobile either. I just came home from work last week and found an appointments pack had been posted. I think they phone just to let you know you've got through but send the appointments pack automatically once your selected.

So wouldn't worry you'll know when ur in!!!!:p

    Thanks Ethan321, Gemma1984 and Officerproblem?

Ethan how early did you get the info pack? (Job offer)
I’m trying to work out if they will send out appointment letters before the 1 month notice. The May 25th intake should get word by April25th? I wonder will they let people know even before that?

Has anyone who has a job offer been told more than a month before the expected intake?

Don’t worry im sure I could spare a few tips! Anyway what’s wrong with a bit of optimism? Is there anything wrong with hoping that I get in in at an early stages of the process and not having to worry about being part of the 'wastage'? Good philosophy but personally I wouldn’t like to be served by a police service that consists of officers who have just scrapped it in! Only joking goodcopbadcop ;)

    alright ciaran2008,
hows things?? just readin the posts and saw this one.. and you other one about not being worried about the ist?? yes optimism is a good thing but its a fine line between optimism and just plain cocky, and your on the tight rope buddy... and no-one here is just scrapping it by, remember 8000 applicants and everyone here is in the top 700/800... thats the top 10percent...
anyway, best f luck in your exams and i hope you pass them!!!
    ;);)

Well said pedro!:D:D I believe most on the thread will agree with you 100%

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Yeah have to agree as well. Out of 10,000 applicants to make it this far is a good achievement. To have someone start labelling candidates as wastage, who has yet to even take the IST themselves is a little bit disrespectful.

    I agree with Pedro552

Ciaran2008 is a bit too confident at passing the IST. I should know from experience, as I thought I would pass it the first time having a 2:1 Degree qualification. I was foolishly hoping I could just walk in and pass. All sorts can fail it! Although I did only miss it by 2%

Word of advice..to all the Campaign 14ers
Don’t take the IST too lightly. It took me two goes before I made it to the Assessment Centre.
Ciaran2008 It would look bad if you failed!

Good luck all the same mate.

sorry 10000, i stand corrected, thought it was only 8000.. sorry to the other 2000 i forgot....... that makes it an even better achievement for us.... well done everyone who has got this far!!;);)

Yeah it was in fact 10,000 or slightly above. So i was told by a lady from recruitment when I rang one time. Massive number of applicants!!

I know some people on this thread found out a week or so before me so it can be six weeks before the intake!!!! ;)

    Keep the faith people ;)

Both the PSNI and Consensa has seen potential in all of us to put is through to the final stages of the process. It is an achievement that we have made it this far - many don't. :)

    The waiting game sucks Jim2008

I've passed everything myself and have a merit pool just in the 300's. Shouldn't be too long now. Thanks Gemmat for the extra info. Good luck with your April intake. Really Jealous.
The sooner I know the better as I’m looking forward to handing in my current job notice.

yep, campaign 14ers,do not take the ist lightly,i flew through the mock tests and was achieving near perfect scores in most of them,i thought pfffff, this is going to be easy,im a well educated guy and thought o,ill be fine been doing this sort of stuff for years.

big no-no,go into the test and found the first few sections handy enough, however,i remember one section then that i was totally confused by,it wasnt that hard,it was just an accumulation of pressure, time and really bad need to go to the toilet,i didnt get it finished and when they said time was up i simply filled in the last ten questions or so with sheer guesses,i thought i was done and was happy to then get the call ups, leading to me joining in May.

so one thing's for sure,do not underestimate these tests no matter what background you are from and give your brain a few exercises before you go in,a bit of mental arithmetic or something and in the first few sections ensure that you are being careful but be brief and accurate and you will be fine.

    Pedro552

When you say everthing.. for me passing everything includes vetting! Ive done all I can do now. Waiting on recruitment only to give me a job offer. Fingers crossed we can all get in soon.
    Vetting is the worst wait.
