That would be up to psni if a new thread was started.

Ah I see! Has anyone got their book yet about 'How to pass the new police selection system'? I’ve ordered mine but it’s taking a while! If the role plays are customer serviced based would anyone recommend buying any customer service books etc to help with that?

You could maybe gain an advantage by a book dealing with customer service, but to be honest i think it is looking into things a bit much, the how to pass the police selection books should be good enough

Hi Ciaran, dont worry about the role plays just yet, work on getting some practice for the first test, as it is tricky enough.

Exactly. Alot of people underestimate the first test. Its tricky enough and the time soon runs out, so its easy to leave out too many questions.

Hello all, i just found this board and am about to do my medical on friday.
my question is if i pass this does it mean i'll be offered a position as my friend had passed the AC but was told his application wouldn't be taken futher and hasn't been given a medical, thanks

Well its looking like anyone who is being vetted and given a medical will be offered a place, your friend must not have scored high enough in the a/c to make it into the pool.

    Hey Jim,

Yea I don’t want to sound big headed but the IST shouldn't be a problem. I mean I’ve done numerous practice tests etc and have done really well in them which is why I'm confident on passing the IST but not so confident about the A/C which is why I'm going to start looking into it a bit.

thanks, hope your not making me get my hopes up for nothing :-) do you know how long after the medical it will take them to contact you, plus i'm an ex smoker and i'm a little worried about the lung capacity, can anyone tell what you have to do for it?

    Hey Rob,

Welcome to the thread. According to home office guidelines the only respiratory problems which could potentially rule you out are any persistent respiratory disease impairing exercise capacity such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or active tuberculosis. Im sure there are plenty of smokers who have passed the medical. Anyway you’ve kicked the habit so it’s important to know that Within 12 hours after you have your last cigarette, your body will begin to heal itself. The levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decline rapidly, and your heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarette smoke.

So I can’t see that being a problem.

If ya read back you will see that is the way its looking i thing its something to do with saving money, it seems they are only giving people who will be offered a place a medical. For the lung capacity test to have to blow into a tube as hard and for as long as you can the results then appear on the screen a few seconds later, you have to do this 3 times.

Jim It definitely appears anyone being vetted and doing a medical is going to be offered a place. There was a fella on here though, carlty88 or something who passed it all and was rejected.

Even though I received the "Dear John" letter, I still received feedback on my medical. I would've been considered fit enough for placement and pension.

I may not be getting placed this time, but at least I've got my health! :D

Does anyone know whether I can still expect feedback on the vetting process, even though I've dropped out of contention for campaign 13?

Just curious. I'm thinking about the next recruitment campaign. If I pass the vetting this time, I shouldn't have any problems next time (barring any run-ins with the law).

Remember at the time thinking uh oh!!! The implications havent been put in place, but there was a string of replies saying this proves they are in place.

Dont know the story here, but going by them new guidelines, something aint right with our friend carlty888.

Yeah must be something going on we dont know. Any word on your medical date??

Not everyone who is vetted and put through a medical will be offered a place.

There is a certain amount of wastage in case some applicants fail either the medical or vetting stages.

They are indeed only offering the vetting/medical to a limited amount of people as aposed to the previous campaigns where everyone in the merit pool went through these stages. IE the top 440 then a small amount just in case, obviously carlty was in the just in case part.

    So how are you all?

    Martin.

Nothing as of yet my man, vetting sent away about 3 weeks ago, so its early days yet... I hope.

Still dont have a clue what is happening regarding my application, Some posts on here make me hopeful, and some bring me back down to reality...

Have applied for C14 in the meantime.

    How are things looking you?

    Good Post!

Yea the wastage idea makes alot of sense because obivously some will fail the medical or vetting!

Well my feeling at the minute (and it is a very hopeful one) is that any wastage people they wanted were vetted early on and given medicals earlier on. Im sure by this stage they have an idea of numbers and how many more people they need. I got vetting sent out 3 weeks ago so I was left feeling that I got it for a reason, that reason being, a lack of catholics being successful enough or failing medicals.

Whats the thoughts on this? I mean for months I heard nothing, and was 100% sure i was being flushed out, then just as Campaign 14 opened i got vetting sent out.:confused::confused:

    Hi there everyone!

I am so happy to have found this site! It is wonderful!

I applied for my IST on Monday and I got the letter today to attend the test in April.

Is anyone else going around that time?

I have a couple of questions that are niggling at me and am wondering if any of you guys can help me.

I have a driving license I got when I was living in Dublin. Will this affect my application up here, as they sent a form with my test date asking if my license was a UK or a NI one......

Secondly, when they do the vetting process, I am afraid that I may not get in due to my family......
Do you think my family would affect my chance of getting in? Or would I be okay (equal opportunities and all that!). I am distant to my family and dont have a criminal record myself, but it freaks me out to think my family may hinder my application. Am I being silly??

    PS.Is the initial test hard?

    :)

Hey Mandy and welcome to the thread!

First of all no way will your family’s records come into the recruitment process at all! Assuming you pass the IST, A/C and the Medical you will receive a vetting questionnaire direct from the PSNI. This is my first time around but I know alot about the recruitment process so as far as I know on the questionnaire they may ask about family who you live with and your relationship with them so assuming you don’t have a relationship with whoever has a bad criminal record then there wont be a problem. Really though they will be looking into you and not your family members so I wouldn’t worry. Anyway you would only get rejected if you posed a threat to the state security.

If im wrong in any of this im sure someone will get a reply to you soon.

Good Luck with your application anyway!

BTW. . I know for fact the licence has nothing to do with it as that was just a survey the PSNI had been conducting! I don’t even have a licence as I'm only 17! So know that has nothing to do with it!

it varies from person to person, theres no set time. Seems most people have to wait between 1 and 3 months.
