    I need a new mp3 player, and a new phone, so I want a 16gb iPhone

I am on meteor PAYG so I have no need for a second gen 3g version, is there anyone at all selling these at the moment, either in a shop or online? I'd probably even settle for an 8gb.

If this fails, will there be many people selling their's once the new version comes out?

Just checking - is it still possible to purchase a 1st gen iphone in the states?

Apple/AT&T haven't taken stock off shelves like?

I've a mate going to NYC and Vegas in a couple of weeks and want to direct him.

    Cheers

As far as I know, they have been taken off shelves connundrum..

As was the reason for selling them off cheaply on O2 recently (to get rid of stock of the 1st-Gen iPhones).

Crap, and now they're not even available on 02.

I've no interest in the 3G yet, just want a 1st gen. Ebay may be the only option, but 90% of Ebay 1st gen phones are used, which makes me wary

There's a flyer up on the notice board where I work, from a guy advertising he's got a brand new Iphone for sale. If you want, I check his number and PM it to you?

Has anyone had any problems using Wi-fi in public places? Anytime I try to connect I keep getting cannot find server errors on safari. Do I have to adjust settings for the network or something?

Just a bump for this to say (although obvious)..

The 2.0 firmware has been released, and is freely available... but DO NOT upgrade your jailbroken iPhone to it just yet!

You will be able to update the firmware, but you won't be able to activate or make calls on it. You'll have to wait for the iPhone hacking team to release an update to their hacking software before you'll be able to activate/jailbreak it again.

Also, if you're not using an 'official SIM', you won't be able to make calls on it either (again, until an unlocking tool is released). SIM unlocking is what took the time for the dev team to do before, so don't expect it to be ready any time soon for firmware 2.0.

But say if you did "accidently" update to 2.0, you should be able to downgrade to 1.1.4.

I read on iLounge that it isn't possible to downgrade to 1.1.4 so beware. If you plug in the iPod/iPhone into your computer, iTunes should tell you what firmware you have Druss.

is it possible to get on the net useing my pc and irishbroadband i how do i connect to edge ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

The iPhone doesn't officially have a video recorder but you can download an app for the iPhone which gives it this feature. 1.1.4 allows you to run unofficial Apps. I'm not to sure about Irish Broadband. You would need a router with WiFi to browse the web but you can also use Edge. It should atomatically pick up an Edge signal.

my iphone says im not subscribed to edge any ideas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

I'm not too sure. What sim do you have in it? Maybe it is only o2 that has an edge service.

meteor 085 i just wanna install the nes and i need the net bt the file for it is in a folder in the iphone so does that mean that i have it jailbroken ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,534 ✭✭✭Dman001

Well your iPhone should be Jailbroken if it is unlocked. Is there an Installer icon on the iPhone? I'm not to sure about the Nes Rom either. I never installed it on my iPod. Maybe someone else could help you.

    The money shot..

So guys, below is a link to the video of the upcoming PwnageTool 2.0

Many many hours have gone into this and now it should be as easy enough for your grandmother to use.

We’ve added lots of new features, including 2.0 support, spotlight file indexing of .ipsws, canned websearches, installer custom configuration, custom root partitions and various other things that you’ll see on the release. Release date is soon although not this weekend. So check out the video, hopefully it will hold you off until we release. High quality video is here (although the server is suffering a bit) YouTube link here. Music by the Marx brothers :-)

UPDATE: Please don’t pay close attention to the wording in the popups of PwnageTool as this is mainly placeholder text while we finalize everything for release. PwnageTool works with 2.0 upgraded 1st gen iPhones if they are activated or not.
So not this weekend so probably early next week.. Tuesday or Wednesday maybe. Looks good!

    WOO HOO!

And good news for those of you still on ZiPhone downgraded basebands:
Here is a video from the iphone-dev.org blog. It shows BootNeuter 2.0 running on a first generation iPhone upgraded to 2.0. This app helps in the unlocking process. It is not available at this time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,203 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Good news: Pwnage Tool 2.0 has been released! for Mac OS X (the only OS that matters! ;):D).

Bad news: It's all a bit unstable and buggy. Some people are getting their iPod Touch / iPhones upgraded without problem but others are having various problems (e.g "2008-07-19 21:45:48 - Failed to prepare x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw file.", failing at DFU mode etc.)

Great guide here if you wanna give it a shot!

I bought my 1g iphone off someone in the states on ebay that was already unlocked and jailbreaked. So i dont know what method they used.

According to the hardware info program my baseband is 3.9 and i have 1.1.4 fw. When this pwnage is eventually ported to windows, is there anything i will have to be careful about seeing as i dont know which jailbreak method was used?

I'm posting this question because I've been unable to find answers using the search function.

This is a simple one. I'm going to the States in a few weeks and with the exchange rate being what it is I'd like to purchase an iPhone 3G there for use here in Ireland. Obviously, I don't want to pay for a US-based phone company contract and I'd like to use it on whatever network I want here (probably Vodafone).

    Can this be done?

If so, what is the least expensive way to do this and still have a fully functioning iPhone?
