Thats actually a pretty amazing ping, usually the speedtest results are 40+ for dsl at best and having that on wireless is pretty exceptional.

WestNets ping is always that low, I'm on dsl and my mates ping is always half mine.

This is Eircom 2meg that I have on second phoneline in house for the family to use so they won't be slowing my one down :D Always always always rocksolid 1750kbits, though my upload sometimes fluctuates as is the case with this result, normally plenty higher though.

Fixed wireless is superior to DSL when it comes to latency and it's done right. From my office to Galway my connection travels across 4 wireless links and my ping times are around 11ms.

Well, it always depends on how good your signal is.

Honestly, most of the time Irish Broadband get's it right. Depends on how conteded the basestation is, that you are hanging off.

:( they built a new one a while back , i phoned them and they said that ping was normal , but they would say that anyway , in dublin people are getting <10 ping , so maybe its the fact that im many miles away from the tower... but my friend has digiweb and lives further than me and he gets very good ping <20

That maybe true Marlow but apart from yourselves and westnet there isn't many others that have generally less latency than dsl.

As a matter of interest, what are your line attenuation and noise margin figures. I'm on the dunshaughlin exchange too.

For me, with terrible attenuation of 50 (used to be 46) and noise margin of 26, I get ping of 20 with that address when using the ping tester that comes with the netopia software.

Got NTL broadband installed today. Wahoo!

So, €46/month for this... (NTL Broadband + €6 for not using their TV service)

    291646216.png

Or €56/month for this... (BT Broadband + line rental for a phone I don't want)

    291646651.png

I know which one I'm cancelling first thing in the morning. :D
