Saw this sad looking Dublin-reg. Fiesta Mk2 in the scrapyard across from the Red Cow :(:

Looked to be in restorable condition too.

There was also a Volkswagen Passat VR5 in the scrapyard aswell. It too was in a sad condition.

It's about 50 meters further on past the harbour wall on the right. Not sure of the road name.

40 Euro at the local recyclers for a car.

    Heres one i made earlier..:)
Myself and a friend chopped the back off this woodhall nicholson granada last year with the intention of making a pickup out of it,though it looked wrong with the high front doors the coachbuilders put on it so the project was shelved(way too much work to lower the roof line). Some fine work went into building these hearses originally, the timber and aluminium body was a work of art. Then they ruined it by putting crappy MK2 escort rear lenses on it,they looked totally out of place!!I thought the number plate was kind of funny too!

^ Pity the '999' on the plate aren't upside down, to have '666'! :D

    The number of the beast!

I'm not sure if you could call this a 'classic', but here's a picture I took a while back of my uncle's '88 Citroen BX estate:

    download.php?Number=21524

It's been sitting stationary since 1999. It has a crappy 1.9L non-turbo diesel engine in it, it could only hit about 80mph flatout! Engine still runs though, the car doesn't :D

They are as rare as hen's teeth now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

A good car in their day,and as you say, rare now!!When did you last see a BX on the road!!Come to think of it theres a BX van doing the rounds in tralee....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

I haven't seen a BX estate/van in years, apart from my uncle's one above. The hydropneumatic suspension on them were rubbish, his one was constantly giving trouble. It eventually ceased working altogether.

I see hatchbacks every now and then. And the French seem to love coming over here in their 20+ year old cars - there's a rather battered but functional Peugeot 505 on French plates going around Limerick recently. Students maybe?

The French are known for keeping their cars FAR longer than us. When I was over there last March, the amount of Renault 9, 11, 21, 25, aswell as Peugeot 505's and Citroen Visa's was quite unreal! These are cars that have long since vanished from the roads here. I even managed to see two Austin Metro's over there in the space of ten minutes. You'd be lucky to see one per year here!

Fair play to them I say, at least they have their priorities in order and don't feel the need to 'keep up with the Jones'.

That has to be the tallest roof I have ever seen on a Granada hearse.
Look at how tall the windscreen is!

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭superboy

Hey what engine is in that Hearse???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

Most of them had the 2.9L V6 engine.

    Excellent posts there Macautos.

It's such a shame to see many of these cars, which look restorable, going it such a state of disrepair.

Where did you take these pictures anyway?
