Excelent shots macautos, reminds me of the old days 10/15 years ago when every scrapper had cars like that in them, almost all of those cars are original irish,i see limerick, cork and tipp south regs there.Thats a lot of MK2escorts in the one place!!
That cressida is well rusted,id love a roadworty one of them with an old irish number.Incidentally theres a mint k30 same as the one below in green in macroom in cork owned by an old boy,is always garaged,im sure anyone living down there would know of it.
    Picture975.jpg
Its a late 1980 kilkenny number on this one, must be one of the last,or maybe twas an imported one??There used to be loads of these around, hardly none now.:(
    Picture1076.jpg
I love the extreme rust on this KP61,Just goes to show how badly they rotted!!This one must have beem imported too as OIV is very late 86 limerick county issue(the last old style reg issued as it finished up at the changeover at OIV520 on 12/12/86)So the reg makes this car number 46 from the end..man i need to get out more...:D

That has to be the tallest roof I have ever seen on a Granada hearse.
Look at how tall the windscreen is!
All the woodhall nicholson hearses had windscreens raised like this,id love to know what the screen was off. Most of the other coachbuilders(duffy etc)didnt bother raising the roof, just extended the floor,i presume they were alot cheaper too though:D.While on the subject,i thought this was a hilarious shot...E-type hearse anyone!!

Oh yeah,i apologise in advance to junkyard!!:)

I saw a similar Hiace van to that just the other day. Pity I didn't get a picture of it.

That Hiace must have been in use until recently, or maybe still is cos it's still appearing on cartell

To the best of my knowledge it will show on cartell if its been on the road at any time after 1993,records went computerised then, and any car not on the old system wasnt put on the new system.

Oh right, I thought it had to be taxed in the last 3/4 years for it to appear on cartell

  • Registered Users Posts: 57 ✭✭macautos

@redrocket . Ya them escorts are a shame laid up .But are not to be parted with so im told .
@onkle . No i scrapped a few Toyota's in '00/'01 and they still show on cartell . So id agree with carchaeologist.
@carchaeologist. Ya that ke30 is a rare site now even in scrappies . Bloody scrappage scheme saw to the death of some fine machines .
I was actually offered a ke30 in 1999 for 50 pounds just like the one pictured above and i turned it down . God id love it now .!!!!! Most of the pics above are Tipp/Cork/Limk reg alright and thats mainly still where they lay up . That Cressida is in Tipp here well rotten due for crushing anyday now ,oh and that is a 131 beside it .

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,214 ✭✭✭Redrocket

i imagine so, nothing would last that close to the side of the road for that long if it was possible to buy them and restore them! what a shame..... see my posts on page 7 about the capris some aul lad is restoring :D these people should be fined for some form of car crime

Theres a Cressida still on the road in Galway PI 25 is the reg, (would have been a great reg for a Triumph 2.5 PI), and I think the 131 in the photo might be a Fiat Argenta.

  • Registered Users Posts: 291 ✭✭gfwd

Looks more like a Fiat 128?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭MercMad

    Nah I'd say its a Supermirifiori !!

I doubt its PI 25 as thats a 1904 cork city issue, and even if it was reallocated as was possible pre 87 i dont think the 1904 number would have been around to transfer, though nothing surprises me in this country:)..its more than likely 25PI as thats a march 1976 registration more in keeping with the age of the car...id love to see a pic of the car though, long time since iv seen a cressida on the road!!

Im sure thats a 131 as it has the 1300CL badge on the rear quarter,i dont think argentas had engines that small or were badged that way?Though i could be wrong?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

I remember seeing loads of Cressida's back in the early 90's. I always loved there 'American' boxy looks (the 80's models anyway).

They are still plentiful over in America.
