Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I thik that is to cut down on glare coming into the cockpit. you see it on fighters with a black secion on the upper nose section. it allows for better vision i think
AFAIK this is no longer a problem. They have antiglare paint in front of the cockpit. I can remember seeing commercial aircraft with the black section under the cockpit, was very evident on B747s.

Good point about the composite material. I see the B767 has a plain grey cone while the B757 has am obvious replacement cone in the normal AA livery.

Grabbed this shot of a 139 from work today, I wouldnt normally post it as its not the greatest of shots :o, But there seems to be a unusual wire on the tail, I wonder if the tail vibration issues are still causing problems??

Thanks. Was waiting on my lift home.

When seen at night all lit up the sweep is quite pretty.
And I do like it, the long curve is quite airy and gives a nice view of the old terminal building. So it shows the new architects/DAA do appreciate the history of the airport. But the walk to pier D is quite the trek!!

Getting back to our B757/American Airlines/Nosecone discussion, I saw a normal livery AA B757 in Dublin yesterday and it also had the grey non-metallic nosecone.

    GE90 BUILDUP PRIOR TO INSTALLATION
    TO THRUST 115,300 LB
    BYPASS RATIO 9:1
    WEIGHT 19,316 LB (8780 KG)
    FAN CASE DIAMETER 158.7 IN (4.03 M)
    FAN DIAMETER 128.O IN (3.52 M)
    LENGTH 285.8 IN (7.26 M)

Just reading the above specs its understandable why the engine is shipped split from the core and the fan case. Wondering why still? The fan case diameter is 4.03M. Now consider the fuselage diameter of a 757-200 which is 3.7M!! In other words the 757-200 fuselage could fit inside the fan case of the GE90!!!!!!!!!! Further to that the GE90 TO THRUST is 115,300LB & the PW engine on the 757-200 is 36,300LB.

No, it arrived from Perpignan, France where it had been for maintenance/storage after Blue Wings ceased ops last year.
