I went to see Maeve Higgins in the Opera House in Cork a few years back and i was in stitches but that show she had recently on RTE was TERRIBLE - WTF like?!

Des Bishop is hilarious - no American knows Cork people better than him:D

Dara O' Briain is pretty funny

PJ Gallagher is cool - seems really genuine too

    Tommy Tiernan - CAN'T STAND THE GUY!

Kathryn Lynch by a long shot :) and Tommy T.... !!!!

    katherine lynch is an embarassment.

dara o' briain is brilliant but on that last 'three men in Ireland' he felt really uncomfortable and didn't want to "take the piss" outta ireland, apart from needing to lighten up a bit in that regard he is fantastic to watch.

Tommy Tiernan is great and Pj Gallagher is good.

    Dave McSavage is brilliant
That big eejit Karl Spain is brutal. (I'd say he's still looking for a woman)
And that Meave Higgins wants a good kick in the mouth, she's terrible. Yes we know you're from Cork.

Saw Tommy Tiernan in Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick on 24th Jan was on for just over an hour and about 15mins was new material the rest was schoolyard stuff he really was crap! (and €25)

Dylan moran is tops for me. I have no time for Tommy Tiernan. Just to say isn`t it ironic that RTE choses to show our great I rish comedians from time to time having shunned them all in their early careers. Perhaps it`s just as well as they would not be as famous now had they not gone to England first.

Went to see Dara O'Briain, Karl Spain and Tommy Tiernan all in the space of a week.
Dara was amazing, while i know a lot of the stuff is rehearsed he still had a lot of ad lib stuff.

Karl Spain was ****e;fair enough,I was quite pissed by the time he came on as it was in the Laughter Lounge. The guy MCing was actually far funnier.

I had low enough expectations of Tommy Tiernan, he's gone very downhill in the last 2/3 years IMHO. However,he was really good!Lots of new stuff, and well able for the hecklers,of which there were many (bastards). We must have caught him on a good day :D

Katherine Lynch is so unfunny. Bad timing bad scripts. The sketches would demean the worst local variety show of all time.

Best Dylan Moran Worst Andrew Maxwell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 424 ✭✭FinnLizzy

Man! I could talk for hours about comedians.
Best: Dara O'Briain, Ardal O'Hanlon, Ed Byrne, Jimmy Carr (if he counts), and I found this old school fella, Dave Allen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxo81Ok9Urk
They're better off in England. Better publicity and RTE have the sense of humour of a nun.

WORST: Tommy Tiernan (stupid accents and swearing ISN'T FUNNY), Andrew Maxwell (try leaving Dublin)..... all the others have their highs and lows.

BEST: Kevin McAleer, Dave Allen, Dara O'Briain

WORST: All who, for the most part, rely on swearing and anatomy jokes

Couldn`t agree with you more. Glad you found the late great Dave Allen. He had his own shows back in the 70`s (if memory serves me well) and his irreverence for most things were ahead of their times.

Best - (If Jimmy Carr, is counting its him),
    David O Doherty,
Dylan Moran is good as well.
Andrew Maxwell I am indifferent to.

Worst - Pretty much the rest, especially.
Tommy Tiernan, I AM SHOUTING AND JUMPING SO I AM FUNNY HAHAHA.. No your not.
Dara O'Brien, just don't like him, don't like his timing he is just not funny.
Ed Byrne, and you have to put up with him half the time on Mock the week as he is Dara's mate which makes it worse. Don't think he is ever told anything funny, never even smiled at one of his jokes.
Des Bishop, but he is American so feck him.
PJ Gallagher, or whatever as well don't like that bloke at all, the Naked Camera show or whatever wasn't funny either.
Ardal O'Hanlon, I tried really hard to like him for Father Ted and just cause he seems like a throughly likeable bloke, unfortunatly not very funny.

I just don't find Irish comedians funny at all. Jimmy Carr I would watch all the time, David O'Doherty same. Andrew Maxwell I would watch the very odd time, but I wouldn't watch him all the time so he is a push to be in there.

Like Dylan Moran and Jimmy Carr ( irish passport=irish citizen :-p )

Liked Tommy Tiernan but lately all he seems to do is shout and curse....

Dislike Ed Byrne... always have, always will. Not a great fan of Dara O'Brien either...

Jimmy Carr is good on tv shows etc. but he's one of the worst stand-ups I've seen. He has that (awful) old fashioned one-liner style that would remind you of the 60's, 70's workmens clubs in England.

No flow. Stop start jokes with not one related to the other.

    Yuck.

wit comedians i reckon im easy to please most of em mentioned here i like and i could say all of um have sparked a little laugh at least once in the last few years.
but one i dont c mentioned is Paddy courtney, who the f**k is paddy courtney?. and has he ever ever done or said anything even remotely funny and all im talkin about here is one line or one tiny piece of material that may garnish a smile . every now and a again i see this little guy comin on tv shows and each attempt is as brutal as the next. If ever u wanna c some guy crash n burn this fella never fails to disappoint and yet he keeps makin it back onto tv
    somebody has to let know:D

Worst by far are Ed( thinks he is incredibly witty and observant) Byrne and Carl Spain who looks like a fat manic depressive. I also cant stand that fat bulgy eyed funny speaking idiot Dara O Brian. Never got Des Bishop whose observations of Irish society are simply untrue and unfunny.

Best -Dylan Moran is in a league of his own, Tommy Tiernan is mad and totally uninhibited.

Id say the best Irish Comedian would have to be Tommy Tiernan HE IS A LEGEND

Worst Comedian would have to be Des Bishop hands down, granted he is just about borderline funny but extremely arrogant and cocky and his perception of irish society is very inaccurate. He needs to change his material...same old story....alcoholic....testicular cancer....his supposidly tough upbringing zzzzzz

The little bro Aidan Bishop aint bad and I have seen him in the International Comedy Club but he is very forgetable. He needs to up him game and do something memorable. He flies under the rador!!

PJ Gallagher....Im warming to him alot

Usually is - from yet another Saturday show from RTE , they will soon be sending out flyers in the street for their next Saturday show presenter.

    Tommy tiernan for the win
"Its like a sweet shop" :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 170 ✭✭carmel27

I love Dara O'Brian, David O'Doherty, and Maeve Higgins. And can I class Mario Rosenstock as a comedian? Saw him yesterday at the Ian Dempsey breakfast show in Limerick, and even though his main thing is impressions, he also came up with some very good lines on the spur of the moment.:)

Also kinda like Neil Delamare (prob spelt wrong), although not as much as I used to. Those stupid lotto ads have put me off I think!

Cant cope with Andrew Maxwell, and dont even get me started on Tommy Tiernan! Used think he was so hilarious when I was younger, and now I just look at him and think "Tommy, you're some knob."
