Went to Podge and Rodge tonight(free tickets),the best part of the night had to be Dylan Moran,I just wanted him to keep going,he is brilliant.

Dara o'brien is easily my favorite.

Can't abide Jason byrne and des bishop.

You're so right. what is it about him? smugness, or just unfunnyness... I think in this country the only criteria to be a comedian is to call yourself one!

I saw David O'Doherty and Brendan Grace in Thurles. O'Doherty was brilliant, couldn't stop laughing but i was disappointed with Brendan Grace, bloody useless :mad:

does brendan grace count? why even bring him up? he's just a tosser.

so is brendan o carrol- since when is cross dressing as an old woman funny?

maeve higgens? wat a bitch- 'oh i had my period jokes' are for femminists in 70's. im fed up hearing about periods

the best is easily dylan moran.
im sure his dad fr ted would be funny if he wasnt dead.

i really think that should end the discussion.

can we lock the thread now?

Best: Tommy Tiernan (surprised alot of people don't like him..), Ardal O Hanlon, PJ Gallagher, Jason Byrne, Neil Delamare, Dylan Moran (legend!!) Dara O' Briain, Deirdre O Kane, David O Doherty.

Worst: Ed Byrne (the definition of s**t), Des Bishop (even though he isn't irish but i hate him anyway) Brendan Grace.

OH dear Ladilia, how can you put delamare's name next to Dylan Moran...Morans style is inimitable delamare's is hackneyed unoriginal and smug.

best = tommy tiernan when hes on form although he is over rated
des bishop , ive grown to like him and i admire his gaeilge thing too
colin murphy , dont like him on the panel but he was good on the blizzard of odd

worst = ed byrne , guys a ***ker
neil dellamere , hes worse than byrne in that he,s actually an unpleasant guy , hes an a**h**e which is worse than being what ed byrne is
jason byrne , jumping around screaming any oul crap that comes into your head isnt entertaining
maeve higgins , people thing shes drol when in fact shes just smug , she thinks shes so funny that she doesnt have to deliver anything
deidre o kane , about as funny as that woman from the religous group CHOIR who heckled her way through the lisbon campaign , the woman is never off the telly or radio be it with bad performances in dramas or excruciatingly painfull to listen to radio adds

I saw David O Dotherty at The International recently, where he plays his mini keyboard and he was gas!

I also think Graham Norton, on his shows anyway is so funny. The things he gets away with! :D

Saw Jason Byrne before and don't like him. Just don't. Eurgh!

Best: Brendan Dempsey, Neil Tobin and certianly Dermot Morgan (RIP)

    Worst: Meave Higgins

Ones to watch out for: Colum McDonnell

Its interesting reading over this forum and seeing that a majority of the comedians mentioned are those of the Panel....get out and go to comedy gigs and you will find comedians that are a 1000 times funnier than those guys. The likes of Michael Mee, Paul Malone, Rueben, Tommy Nicholson, Brendan Burke, Patrick McDonnell, John Henderson, and thats only a few!!!

.....oh yeah you have to hand it to the king of one liner comedy the one and only Hal Roach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 454 ✭✭gernon

Sorry guys and much as I like him Jimmy Carr is not Irish, he was born in London of Irish parents and certainly doesn't claim to be a paddy. I find most of the modern Irish comics a bit either bland or trying too hard.
How about Hal Roach anyone ? :D

Worst is Ed Byrne. On the local scene, it has to be Gerry Mallon..awful.
    Best, Tommy Tiernan.

David O'doherty is majorly under-rated. He is hilarious live. Have you seen his "Sent a message to the person the message was about" song. Brilliant!!

My worse is Ed Byrne and my best is Dylan Moran :- )

Was at Tommy Tiernan in Vicar St last Thursday - absolutely brilliant. Along with Dara O Briain, they are the two best on offer from these shores..,

Worst - Hate even having one to mention but gotta be Ed Byrne..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 256 ✭✭nij

TBH I've never laughed at any Irish comedians. They are just so false and annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,976 ✭✭✭✭humanji

Dave Allen has to be my favourite. David O'Doherty is also class. I used to love Tommy Tiernan, but he's kind of gone downhill now, IMO. And I also had a fondness for Brendan Grace back in the day. But he lost it a while ago.

As worst, I'd pretty much say everyone who's ever appeared on the Panel, aside from Dara O'Briain.

Dara O Briain, the lad was absolutley incredible live! :)
