I transferred via wire transfer so looks like it doesn't just apply to credit card cormie!

So what exactly did you send them cormie? And how - fax / mail etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,854 ✭✭✭✭cormie

No nothing, I haven't verified my account yet! I signed up and transferred money with wire (AIB, online banking, "transfer money>international transfer", filled in IBAN etc), a few €300 transfers, then I found out you can transfer more than €300 with wire, that that limit only applied to Credit Cards, so I transferred €800 the exact same way. Took ages but showed up today! I haven't sent anything such as passport photocopy etc.

only lodge what your going to spend as you cant redeem funds from account unless you close it

Any sign of your fifty yet jack? My transfer still hasn't shown up back in my AIB account.

I'm guessing they've gotten busier since launch, Paul Savory Ax. Lodge in a fair bit in one go so you won't have to top up so often!

Checked today and my €850 has lodged. No need for any verification.

you didnt need to verify? You lucky so and so....

I was going to lodge a large amount but the fact I've had so much trouble with them lately made me want to play it safe with a small amount.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭thebman

I requested the money to be transferred back to my account as they were asking for verification and they said they'll do it within the next 7 working days  but sure what do I care as long as I get it.

I refuse to use this after their cowboy tactics of not informing customers of important changes to transferring system. I can't trust them with my money if they are going to behave like that.

no sign of my money back.emails ignored. no doubt its been returned to a "third party". have to agree with brim. very untrustworthy and the support is a joke.

What gets me is there are lots of people, like basquille, still using it with no problem :D Why are we so unlucky!?! And no the money I lodged to the local Dublin account last Thursday is still missing...

its either plain dumb luck that some ppl are doing ok or some sort of deliberate action on the part of wirecard. its sad really as it could be a great service. i just dont see why we cant have prepaid normal credit cards in ireland.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,472 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

I think yee should stop using this "Local Account". I think it is the root cause of all the problems.

I have no option but to use the local account. I'm with the Ulster Bank and there is no way of making IBAN payments with their online banking. Also from what I remember there's a lot of details/forms to be filled out if you go into a UB branch to do IBAN.

I thought once I verified my troubles with the local account would be over.

In my dealings with them, I got this as part of a response asking why they changed their policy.
We did not change our Terms and Conditions – we are obliged by German banking
law toproperly identify the Wirecard account holder when we receive wire
transfers from third parties. It was a mistake that these wires have been
processed in the past. We apologise for it.

Basically I read that as they were breaking the law in the past. If peoples transactions are still being processed (as in anybodies), its a sign of lack of communication about very important matters which would have the company performing illegal actions. If that isn't a sign that they aren't behaving professionally I don't know what is.

This is the first i've heard of this card and i have to say i'm very interested, how did this manage to slip under the radar so easily. Do Halifax know how many people would love this card. Anyone know if they'd be willing to give me one of these cards given i'm a final year student with no job? BOI wouldn't even give me a laser card!!!

go to your nearest branch. its not a credit card, u can only spend what u have in your account but its excepted worldwide and everywhere online as its visa

Is it a Visa VISA VISA as in, a Visa? :D Accepted anywhere a normal Visa credit card would be, i.e. everywhere online? And this is definitely available to us Oirish?

yeah i checked the application forms and it says you have to lodge €1500 a month to qualify for "additional features". Guess that rules me out, i might go into my local branch tommorrow and ask for the hell of it anyway!

Wow! I knew UK banks had Visa debit cards but didn't think of Halifax over here. I looked up their site and I think the €1500 "additional features" are related to low credit and overdraft interest rates.

    http://www.halifax.ie/index.jsp?1nID=94&2nID=520&3nID=527&pID=520&nID=532

Gonna go into a branch tomorrow and see what the story is. This is exactly what I need because I don't want a credit card I can borrow against, just a means to shop online with the money I already have at my disposal. If only our banks weren't so behind the damn times we'd have had this option years ago.

    Hi everyone, (I'm new!)
I'm very interested in this topic... just registered for wirecard on Sunday and I used up a couple of the ends of 3V vouchers and lodged €6. Then i got a 3V today for 100 and when i tried to put it in my account got locked. (yeah i know i know i paid a fiver charge to 3v etc etc - just wanted it in instantly). Now they're askin me for ID etc which is grand and a copy of the credit card i used... eh hello - what do i do? (and it's a 3V voucher...)

On the Halifax topic, yeah isn't it a great idea and why on earth can't the other banks offer this instead of stupid laser that only works for irish stuff... I mean if they have laser why can't they put the visa symbol on like the new Halifax one... I'm a student too and not workin and I don't think they'll let me open the account... it asks if you're earnin an income and then asks for tax details  so a white lie wouldn't even work.....
Let me know how ye get on... I was goin to go in too and look like a sensible respectable person and pray they'd let me open it... just haven't got around to it yet (lookin sensible or respectable or goin in :D)

being a student doesnt matter. all u need is an official document with your ppsn number. unemployed can get 1 as well. 1500 only applies to 10% interest

Hmmm, this could be the answer to all our problems I think.

Here's more info on the Halifax debit card:

    http://www.halifax.ie/index.jsp?nID=564&pID=526

This line in particular is a good sign:
Where can you use your Halifax Debit Card?
The simple answer is anywhere that displays the sign. And that’s an amazing 27 million places worldwide!

:) So what's the story? We just have to open up a Halifax current account and deposit money into it? I wonder how long it would take from walking into the bank to being able to spend it on the card? I don't fancy going through all the hassle of changing my whole bank account over just for this, so I wonder how long it would take for AIB transfers to a Halifax account to show up and be usable from the card? Looks good anyway so far :)

Hallifax are very choosy on who they will take on as a customer. I have heard of people being refused the basic current account.

On what basis ? This seems very strange.

Poor credit history, no credit history come to mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 685 ✭✭✭jackbauer

i was denied the current account by halifax around june of this year. no reason given.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 nippynan

Might give it a go then...
What about a student credit card with BOI? If you have a maxed out one with MBNA and you weren't a great payer on timer!!!???? not a chance????

    What about this:
    http://www.easykard.co.uk/
I enquired all about it and they can offer the Visa one to Irish residents. It costs £100 (notice GBP) and notice the fees in the fees section....ott:confused:
But it's an option if people are willing to pay for it.
(ps i know it says available to US residents but i rang and they said it's available to irish residents too - just the visa one...)

But really, why the hell aren't innovative and creatively minded financial institutions jumping at this huge gap in the market? What's the big problem? What am I missing here?

Loads available in the UK.... (mostly to UK residents)

i just don't understand it. As for the 3V, there aren't enough retail outlets to topup in. Well around my area anyway.
I'm gone off wirecard now with no plastic card yet available to Irish residents... Why can't someone start this? I mean there is definitely a market for it. And ejits who are fool enough to max out their credit cards(like me :D) would be ejit enough to pay a fee big enough to make come company a nice fat profit for a pre-paid card. Seriously, what am i missing here?

How long are wirecard taking to process IBAN deposits. I sent €210 yesterday via AIB's urgent service, same day value. It has still not yet appeared in my wirecard account. Normally urgent deposits appeared the same day around 10pm.

Have they gotten slow in crediting accounts?
