Potters on the Crumlin Road closed about a year ago, to be re-opended.

I don't believe it ever did.

A bit out from the City Centre but Monkstown Snooker Club is still going strong.....

12 full size snooker tables and a 2 American Pool Tables.
It's in Monkstown Farm, next to the Farmhouse Pub.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I'm just wondering if there is anywhere in and around Dublin city centre you can have a casual game of snooker and a pint at the same time?

It seems that the Belgard Snooker club is closed now as well. Anyone know of any snooker clubs in and around the Tallaght area other than the Spawell?

Not too sure about the club closure other than that the plans are for the whole belgard complex to be knocked down & replaced with a big apartment block with a smaller pub instead.

Thats what I've heard by word of mouth.

They have already completed the multi-storey car park at the back.

    Northside snooker clubs:

    Racecourse Snooker Club, Baldoyle
    Westbury Snooker Club, Malahide
    Joey's Snooker Club, Harmonstown

    Southside snooker clubs:

    Spawell, Templeogue
Roadstone Sports Club, Kingswood Cross, Clondalkin
    Raphael's Snooker Club, Lucan
    Monkstown Snooker Club

There are also many other sports clubs such as ALSAA, Sportslink, Glenalbyn and Ierne that have snooker. Most of the snooker clubs in Dublin have gone now.

Are there no decent snooker clubs in city centre vicinity? Not looking for a place with blaring music

In the city centre there's only Ned Kelly's (O'Connell Street). No music upstairs, where the 4 snooker tables are. It's 12 €/hour. To my knowledge, there's no other place in the city centre.

Raphael's in Lucan is closing tonight for good. :( Worked there for 4 years back in the '90s and still play there the odd time. Sad to see snooker clubs closing, not many left now.

crossguns is still going strong, and will be for quite a while. €6 per hour before 6 and €8 per hour after, you can't beat that, tables are quite good too, brushed and ironed every day, and they don't tolerate any idiots!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭slicus ricus

The Classic in Finglas is still open. It's decent enough, particularly if you ask for a table in the room at the back. There's only 3 tables in the back as opposed to the 10 or so in the main area.

I hear Joey's in Raheny/Harmonstown is closed. Can anybody confirm this as I play there the odd time.

    The clubs I have played in. . . .

Q's in Clondalkin (across from McDonalds/Mill Shopping Centre). 24 hour I think / a bit noisey and tables not great. Not sure if its still open.
Raphaels in Lucan - was a very nice club and well run, shame its closed. Where will Fergal O'Brien practice now?
Played once or twice in Oldbawn, didnt like it there.
Cellbridge - nicest club I've been to. Dedicated players, no riff/raff. At least one 'heated' table, but pockets that wouldnt accept marbles.
Spawell. Well run, dedicated players. No messing. Drink and Food too.
Four Provinces, once only. Not again ;)
Jasons... shame its gone I suppose, but never liked it that much.
    Stillorgan Lesuireplex, to be avoided.
Ned Kellys on O'Connell street... not sure if its still open... lots of gambling upstairs.

    Now I play in...
A mates house who has a really nice full size table (no you cant have his address).
Palmers Golden Ball bar and lounge in Kilternan, on the stepaside to eniskerry road. 6 Full size tables upstairs in average condition. No messers. Quiet (well away from bar). Not advertised as a snooker club as such. Nice food served in bar.

Jaysus... when I've been around :D

Sad to see the death of snooker in Dublin. I used to play in Castle Billiards as a kid. Its closed about 7 years now.

I have played in Rathmines in the recent past in goodfellows. Hopefully that is still there.

All the clubs that have closed down, their owners sold out to the property market or just let the clubs go down, eg they just turned their back on running a decent club and instead went for the easy money, some clubs got rid of half their tables and installed poker machines etc, eased up on a door policy/membership and just let anybody in, now you don't have to be a genius to figure out where your club is heading then, sure there were plenty of great clubs around, i remember the castle well and correct me if i'm wrong but did'nt they once have 50 tables? it was awsome, some clubs have managed to stay afloat, they have been run well and continue to do so, here in crossguns we have been open 51 years and still continue to be busy seven days a week, yes the lack of clubs in our general area has indeed helped business but you don't survive this long unless you are doing something right, so as far as we are concerned snooker is very much alive and kicking in dublin, www.crossgunssnookerclub.com

Is there a snooker club around D15 or prehaps in the city centre thats suitable for ages of 15 + ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭Juxtapose

Good fellows reduced nearly all their tables to turn it into a poker/casino club

theres still 3 tables at the back afaik. last time i was there was about a month ago

its slowly dying out there too

We used to travel from Shankill and play in the stars of the future competitions in the Castle. What a club. Was quite young so have a nostalgic view of it all but there was somethin really magical about the place through my eyes!

Zack - I work not too far from here. Haven't picked up a cue in a couple of years but whenever I'm passing I always think to myself "I'd love a few frames now!" Couple of questions:

    1. Do you need a membership?
    2. Are there private tables available?
    3. Do you have a bar?

    Thanks.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭zack01

    Hi,
No membership required in crossguns, the owner makes everyone very welcome,he's been in the game a long time and loves the game of snooker.

No private tables, but there are seven tables well spaced out, there is coaching available, the owner recently became a RIBSA qualified coach.

No bar available, but complimentary tea and coffee and snacks available. You will be well looked after, the club has been in his family for 50 years and as i said he makes everyone welcome, we are just back from 2 days in sheffield at the snooker, the owner ran a competition with a visit to the world snooker for the winner.

Normally you can get a table easily enough, but with the snooker on the tv it's been busy there lately, but again as i said the guys working there will look after you.

As far as I know they still do have tables. I was in the Golden Ball for a few pints recently and I seen a couple of notices around the place for the snooker room but I didn't have the chance to look further. :)

Again I'm not sure if they still have tables it's been a while since I've been there but they used have them upstairs, on the left as you go in.
