    Opel Astra OPC (2006)

    Weight : 3070 lbs (1393 kgs)
    Power : 240 bhp (178kw) at 5600 RPM
    Torque : 236 lb/ft (320 Nm) at 2400 RPM

THESE ARE MANUFACTURERS FIGURES! WONDER HOW ACCURATE THEY ARE!

see i don't get this. If you're doing 0-60 is it not ALL acceleration? So the car with the better torque will ony outperform it at the very start and in the lower REVs?

i think i might have answered my own question.

I think so - Anyway - its still torque at the wheels that counts for acceleration not engine torque. Also 0-60 is silly be because the launch (clutch drop), off the line traction, driven wheels etc all play a major effect.

Better is something like 30-120mph - Takes away the off the line variables and is a long enough sprint to see differences. Slower cars wiil start to show up badly after 75-80mph

Except for 120mph is not of any real-world (as opposed to track) relevance.

I think we've had this little argument before, however....;)

I can barely remember it ;) - Good thing this thread is rooted in the fantasy world of numerical drag racing

Being a mate of MarkN, I know he won't be pleased he's been bumped down (by an error) but I'm gonna rub it in anyway! :)

    Ah, €30k v €58k and only 6 kW/tonne in the difference! Still, I am jealous of the S3!! :(

Sorry MarkN - error rectified - you can now look down the nose of these Opel and Ford drivers again :p

That's mrs unkel's car too. 0-100km/h in 11.6s is not that slow tbh compared to other base models in this class. But you're right. Fast it ain't
