Motors challenge - Most powerful motor

    Ok,

I am always curious to what people drive on the boards here, so I have decided to have a challenge to rank the forum contributers motors by power to weight

I realise we have threads on what you drive. However this time I want to know the power and weight of your motor and we can have a ranking. I'll rank in metric, so kilograms and kilowatts, power to weight will be in Kw per metric tonne.

Just name the car, year, power and weight and I'll do the rest.

There is only one condition. It has to be your daily driver car. I.e the one you would normally drive during the week. This is only for fun, so no arguments. I'll maintain the list and update. If there is demand I'll do another list for non daily drivers

By the way I'll only put one car per person - modified cars are in a list on their own due to the difficulty in verifying the values

The list as it stands (non modified)

    Junkyard - BMW M5 (2001) -163 kW/tonne
    Victor_M - BMW M3 (n/a) - 162 kW/tonne

I'm assuming you're going for Bhp converted to Kws. If it was Torque, it'd be a different game.

    Horsepower :
    2007 MINI Cooper S 128Kw/1205kgs = 106kw per Metric Tonne.

    Torque :
    2007 MINI Cooper S 260nm/1205kgs = 215nm per Metric Tonne.

Not interested in torque for this - so please dont quote.

Power to weight gives the best indication of acceleration and is what the thread is about. Cheers

provided that the gearing is right :D

    Suzuki Jimny: 1120 kg / 63 KW (respectable enough for a 1.3)
    acceleration 0 - 50 kmh plenty quick; 0 - 100 kmh around 20 seconds :D

    Toyota MR2 Turbo.

    Weight: 1260kg
    Power: 245Bhp (183 kW)

    Ratio: 194Bhp/Tonne (145kW/Tonne)

    0-60: 5.56
    0-100: 13.91

All manufacturers figures so probably not very accurate :D

    Edit: Added kW figures

If you're a 1.6 in the alfa range then you're either 105bhp which is 77kw or 120bhp which is 88kw.
So far as I know, the older 1.8ts is roughly 103kw (140bhp)

Not trying to start a slagging match but unless your car has all sound proofing removed, not seats at all and every imaginable extra removed (air con, power steering etc.) then it is nowhere near the 1000kgs mark. Most civics weigh in at closer to 1200kg (have a look at your nect cert!). My old mk2 crx was 1050kgs and it was a tin can, my dc teg was 1100kgs and theyre designed with weight reduction in mind.

    1991 Saab 900 Turbo 16 S - 185bhp, 136kw, 1350kg.
Would be different on torque alright, thats 282nm or 201 lb/ft.
    Torque is relevant for acceleration,
bhp = torque x rpm/5252 , so roughly speaking, if you haven't much torque, you can still make plenty of bhp if you rev it enough :)

Ah jaysus, if we're including other vehicles :

    Ducati 916 Bike 83.2 kw (114Bhp), 204 Kgs = 407 kw per metric tonne.

    Grob 115e Plane 149 kw (200hp), 990 Kgs = 150 kw per metric tonne.

Yup and if you can rev it more than you can gear it shorter and get a better torque at the wheels using.

Remember its torque at the wheels not at the flywheel that determines acceleration.

    I.e car A 150ft/lbs revs to 10,000
    car b 250 ft/lbs revs to 4500 - a diesel for instance

Once up and running car A will out accelerate car B - I.e. excluding the off the line torque

Anyway this is a friendly thread and I have already said no torque allow. Sorry - you'll have to bring it up on a new thread :)
