Now that a couple of weeks have passed, how do you feel about that Stop'n'Go you pulled on me ? :D:D:D:D

    Some good stuff here.

I remember you wrote in your blog that you were a financial accessor or controller. What was that like? Job decription? Where did you get the motivation to go back after getting so deep in the main event?

You said you're taking 5 or so years out to give poker a shot. Being in your early 30's what do you envisage doing after that once you made a few million? Do you think you will wake up one day and pack it in or suffer from burnout?

    Did you go to college?

Tell me where to go if you think I'm getting a bit personal,I just didn't want to ask you about poker.

What is the best advice you can give to an amatuer poker player for playing both A) Cash Games B) Deep Stacked Tournaments

If you could do it all again what would you do differently?

    What is your biggest weakness?

Are you concerned that you are currently playing too much poker? too high steaks?

What makes you uncomfortable sitting at a poker table? i.e. another player having position on you, another players style etc?

If you had to choose one thing in your fledgling poker career that was a major focal point/turning point - what would you say it was?

Excluding the recent AA getting cracked in both the WPT and Cash game and the JJ v QQ in the WSOP what has been your most disappointing moment in poker?

We were at the same table in the IPC qualifier - i know u had ur ticket locked up early and were not paying much attn but can you tell me any of my flaws and what I should do to correct them?

Would yourself and some of the other experienced boards players consider playing a few live STT with some of the less talented on here and use it to take our money and subsequently analyse our play? I for one would welcome the experience of having yourself, HJ, Fuzz etc etc disect my play. HJ et al feel free to jump in here - it would get you out of the house some evening!! The SE will give a dealer and charge €5 per man reg fee.

My eldest bro and many of my pals are accountants so im gonna give u the same line I give him and all other accountants - "you do realise your job only exists so that you can count the money I make?" :D

slowly moved up, really only started to take off after i won 6k in the fitz last december 13 months ago.
Wasn't this the time when you completed your SB with only 2 BB left when 17 handed in the Fitz 500, called my raise from the BB and when your 23o beat my 88? On such things are great careers built.....:p

    Hi Rob

Great read, thanks for doing this.

    I've two questions,

1.) Why do you get so much enjoyment out of watching other players in events, I seen it when you got busted in Drogheda and you hung around for ages still very much into the vibe around the event, also I was standing with you behind Dave Masters in Singapore on the final table of the $500 event, I know your good mates but you still seem to get as much out of someone else winning as yourself, is it just a general love of poker?

2.) Would you feel its normal behaviour to leave a pub at 7am to take a 20 min taxi ride to find a McDonalds for breakfast and then go back to the pub? :D:D:D

How long can you play (online) before you feel you cannot concentrate fully any more?

Do you drop down to lower levels and multitable ever? Do you think you could beat smaller games, 3/6 say, playing 4-5 tables at a time, or do you feel your game relies on reads too much for multitabling to be profitable?

If you won 20Mil in the euro lotto would you buy into the 20/40 game for 8k or would you play a different game or would you give up online cash games?

Have you ever lost a large amount of money due to a misclick or connection problem or other technological error?

If you were walking home one night alone on a dark street and you saw a briefcase laying on the ground, picked it up and found that it was full of 100 euro notes (2 Mil total) what would you do?

Do you believe the world is fully deterministic or can we make choices?

Should I concentrate more on my finals tomorrow or on thinking of questions to ask you?

Rob very interesting indeed and giving me a lot to think about. The main thing i want to ask is how do you find the standard of play on 10/20 - i take it, its pretty good and for example your less likely of getting hit by a maniac with pocket 4's who hits his set on the river even though you have put in decent raises to get him off the hand? I am convinced personally i would do a lot better if i moved up to 5/10 (not doing too bad on the lower stakes but some of the hits can be quite disheartening!!)

    Hiya Robbie! How's it goin??

Congrats in WSOP 'n all and for your good run @ 20/40

I think we used to play lots of 100 & 200$ STTs together. Did you have a healthy ROI at 'em and just got bored knowing Cash was more profitable timewise?

I have a keen interest in 20/40 on Tribecca and am currenty rebuilding my BR to give it another shot up there. (had tilt issues  )...anyways lots of questions:

What's your opinions on (one word answers will suffice):
    Clubber/Boycie?
    SOXY?
    letsgamble?
    SEATibizaTD?
    Allias?
    Sealey (haven't seen him lately)?
    Tommyboy?

Do you fear/enjoy playing Boycie when he is in one of his humours??

Do you worry about collusion @ 20/40? if so how do you combat it?

How do you deal with TAG shortstacks?

How do you deal with LAG Deepstacks?

Do you notice a massive difference in play between the 10/20 and 20/40 games on Tribeacca?

All going to plan I'll see you on the tables in a few weeks (soft money :) )

    Keep up the good work
    Thanking you in advance

    Bops

Thanks alot for taking the time to do this it is a great read..(as were all the others..)

Any pros who stand out from the crowd as truly exceptional players? and why?

You jumped it at 1/2 and played like a fish for a couple of months..looking back do you think you would have been as well to just start at 50/1 or .25/.50 build up a roll and your ability at the one time?

    Best of luck in 2007..

i really really really should get myself poker tracker, but i dont have it, i use memory and basically player notes which i take down myself.

    Hi,

I'm a bit surprised you don't use PT as I thought it was in use across the board at that kind of level. Instead, what sort of notes to you keep? Detailed, say about betting patterns preflop, or just leaks in game? Have you a template for notes?

    Thanks

im back, we won our match, so good nights work on that front.

    58o wrote:

almost never, 2 or 3 times in the fitz, and all weekend in drogheda when main event was on , thats about it. I get more bored with live cash, if i am getting out of the house for a game, id play a tourney.

Razz/chinese poker etc? a load of crap?

    yes

Do you play the mid stakes rebuy tournies in Tribeca? Do you consider them good value or does the crapshooty structure negate the edge you have over the awful players?

occasionally play them, theres an advantage playing them properly rolled as u can get a stack, i would say they are pretty good value, but would also be quite high variance.

    Fav dublin cardroom/ regular tournament?

fitz, well run, and where i play most of my live day to day, non festival games.
i like the scalps game, not that i play it very often, also the monday game isnt bad, won (or chopped) both of those last time i played them.

Do you ever make calls/raises purely to build a certain image in cash games?

not intentionally, but sometimes being caught on a bluff early on can end up being profitable if u go on to hit a hands thereafter.

    :)

    Hi Tim

    QUOTE=PiperT]Hi Rob

How long have you actually been playing ?

Im playing now just over 2.5 years, thats all.

Do you have a mentor ? If not, how did you go about fine tuning your game ?

no, totally self thought at first, then from blogs, practice etc

What is your view on the standard of live tournament play in Ireland today versus two years ago ?

a lot more better players, but also a lot of new players, in general its better i would say, so many people now have more experience, and boards has helped that.

What kind of setup do you have at home for your online play ?

just a laptop, one screen monitor (i dont play a huge number of tables at once) l i have 2 broadband connections in case of disaster mid way through a multi.

I've noticed you having the occasional beer when playing live. At what point do you think alcohol has a -ev effect on your game ? (if at all :) )

its usually just the occasional one , i only time i ever played absolutely hammered was in scarborough at a rebuy with the irish heads up team, i had to be carried home , but somehow won the tourney.

Now that a couple of weeks have passed, how do you feel about that Stop'n'Go you pulled on me ? :D:D:D:D

it was fine, i needed chips, and had enough to make u pass a lot of hands, i didnt know u had a big pair !!!, yes i got lucky there, but ultimately unlucky in that tourney.

Fair play to you for doing this. Its great to get an insight into a winning players World.[/QUOTE]

i was financial controller of an advertising company, it was a nice position , and a good place to work, however, id been doing the same thing for 5 years and it was getting a bit mundane, + i had 1 hours travelling each way 5 days a week, i think vegas was the one that finally made up my mind to give this thing a shot, i had to be professional in giving the proper notice and training in a replacement etc, but my head was out of the office after vegas.

You said you're taking 5 or so years out to give poker a shot. Being in your early 30's what do you envisage doing after that once you made a few million? Do you think you will wake up one day and pack it in or suffer from burnout?

travelling the world, playing golf, and continuing to have as much fun as i can, going to lots of big sporting events, grand prixs, soccor matches etc, and still playing poker, thats what i hope to be doing.

    Did you go to college?

3 years doing honours accountancy and finance degree in whats now dbs, was abc back in my day, then professional ACA accountancy exams for 3 years.

What is the best advice you can give to an amatuer poker player for playing both A) Cash Games B) Deep Stacked Tournaments

    a) play within your bankroll, dont tilt, play when u are mentally focused, remember its all one long game, each individual session doesnt really matter, provided u are properly rolled.

    b) dont let yourself get too short , use controlled aggression as the tourney progresses, spot the players that are raising too much, and the ones who are weak on there blinds, get the most from your big hands.

If you could do it all again what would you do differently?

woulda taken up golf when i was in school, would started reading boards and researching poker before i dived in and started playing.

    What is your biggest weakness?

be interested if anyone else had any thoughts on this.

Are you concerned that you are currently playing too much poker? too high steaks?

im wary of the 20/40, im buying in short , and well aware that some bad variance could undue a lot of good work, for now its going well, so i will stick at it for now, doesnt mean its a permanent move up though, im enjoying playing at the moment, so i play, when i dont want to play as much, i wont.

What makes you uncomfortable sitting at a poker table? i.e. another player having position on you, another players style etc?

usually always enjoy my times at a table, love the challenge etc, i guess some of the more aggressive guys are tougher when u are not hitting any hands.

If you had to choose one thing in your fledgling poker career that was a major focal point/turning point - what would you say it was?

cashing in the fitz for 6k in 500 game in dec 05, this gave me a lot of confidence, next boost was topping ppp tourney leaderboard for feb 06 , being most profitable on the site for the month, and winning vegas package, then another jump forward was performance in wsop, final jump and further confidence booster was sucessful transition to 20/40 cash.

Excluding the recent AA getting cracked in both the WPT and Cash game and the JJ v QQ in the WSOP what has been your most disappointing moment in poker?

its been mainly all good, getting rivered by george mckeever in ept really hurt, i was buzzing at the time and ive no doubt i woulda gone extremely deep if that stood up, doubly dissapointing cause i had a lot of backers for that event.

We were at the same table in the IPC qualifier - i know u had ur ticket locked up early and were not paying much attn but can you tell me any of my flaws and what I should do to correct them?

didnt really notice anything in particular, u were reasonably stacked also, so neither of us would necessarily have been playing our normal game, it was just all about getting through the bubble for a seat.

Would yourself and some of the other experienced boards players consider playing a few live STT with some of the less talented on here and use it to take our money and subsequently analyse our play? I for one would welcome the experience of having yourself, HJ, Fuzz etc etc disect my play. HJ et al feel free to jump in here - it would get you out of the house some evening!! sounds like good craic, always up for a social type event which this could be.

    When will you stop?

    possibly never

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

    dunno !

Tayto or King Cheese & Onion?

    tayto

    Coke or Pepsi?

kinda like both, pepsi is nice for a change as i usually have coke

    Barrys Tea or Lyons Tea?

    dont really drink tea

T-Bone Steak or Breast of Chicken?

steak if im out in a restaurant

    Mash or Chips?

i have chips in some shape or form most days

Jameson & Ginger Ale or Gin & Tonic?

    neither

never really found it to be that noticable, perhaps i would say 5/10 is a jump from 3/6.

some good players at 5/10, i think this is in fact the hardest of all levels to grind it out at, a lot of the rich fish just jump into 20/40, most of the 5/10 regulars are decent, hard working multi tablers, that just dont have the roll for the bigger game.

indeed, i had 2 bbs, and 1/2 a bb in on the sb, after a couple limped, i was getting the value to sick it in, not happy to see your over pair, but a nice river and never looked back after this, interesting that ive noted this result as the first major catapult for me.

    What blogs do you read?

used to read tonnes of them, the big us ones like negreaunu, also some of the uk players i got to know like dpommo, milkybarkid and rob sherwood, now i also browse through most of the boarsters ones, just to see how everyone is getting on.

What is your favourite thing about playing poker for a living?

no time contraints, being my own boss, being able to play my life in advance, and basically do almost whatever i want, lieing in in the morning, not being stuck in traffic.

What do you think is the most important attribute to have to become successfull playing sixpacs on crypto, did you ever play full ring sngs? And if so did you think they were worlds apart from the sixpacs?

experience at these games, they can almost be played to a formula, good notes of the opponents as the same ones come up again and again, used to play the 10 handed ones on betfair, then they stopped filling so much, so i change to the 6pacs. Not a huge difference to be honest, just need to be tighter at the start of the full ring.

Headsup in a six pac, blinds 150/300, you have 3000, your opponent has 6000 and is open pushing every single hand regardless if you call or raise him.
What is the lowest ranking hand you are prepared to call with?

depends a lot on who my opponent is, and whats hes shown down to date, any pair, or A8 and above, i dont like calling with A7 or below, even HU.
this range would change a lot once the blinds go up slightly.

If you could have one superpower what would it be?

xray vision, great for seeing my opponents cards and some other nice uses i can think of also.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

something like a pilot, then that changed to a pro snooker player in my early teens, ive banged in the odd century, years ago, am useless now, but i used to be fairly handy.

    Thanks in advance rob.
