So was in a nightclub, basically a hot girl comes onto me, we get off with each other, she tells me she's 18(same as me), I go home with her (I spend the night but not everything happens), a few days later I'm told she's 14????

I feel like a pretty bad, but I like her though, but I can't stay with a 14yo though can i?

She seems faily infatuated with me, maybe that's just cause of her age. I dunno how much i like her. I do think shes hot though. I take it it'll have to end?

Tell her you like her but that what you are doing is illegal and that when she turns 17 to give you a call.

Seriously Man you weren't even considering staying with her now where you?

No doubt Underreged must ensure it ends or there could a be a little trip to see a man in a wig and a name placed on the sex offenders list.

If he had had sex with this girl, how does it work out legally? Obviously it is illegal but he was lied to. Is it a case of automatic guilt? The girl was obviously let into a nightclub where legally only people 18+ are permitted - so should he not be legally entitled to presume she was 18+. Is the nightclub not responsible in some way?

Also, if she is infatuated with you like you say, be very careful to let her down gently, girls that age can be extremely spiteful, she could say that anything had happend and it would be her word against yours.

    Just tread very very carefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 596 ✭✭✭TheBlock

By "Not everthing happened" I assume they did not have full intercourse. Maybe OP could confirm this is the case. Either way it really does need to end and quite quickly.

Chalk it up as a strange but not necessarily awful experience and move on a wiser man. I dont think that you could really continue in a relationship with a 14 year old Lolita regardless of how hot she was. Remember what you were like when you were 14?

I think I'm too old to know if its weird or not. 14 sounds crazy young but then again so does 18. I think I went out with a 15 year old when I was just gone 18 and I didnt see anything wrong with it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭Miss Fluff

    12 + 2 = 14

That's right, she is a mere two years older than a 12 year old. She is still a child and as Shelli said, girls that age can be seriously spiteful. Have nothing more to do with her.

Oh yeah, and does it strike anyone else as a bit alarming that you were able to spend the night at her house? I mean hello? I've heard of liberal parenting but that takes the biscuit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭shapez

It is also alarming that she was in a nightclub!!! Unless it was an underage disco???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭Bazzy

Where are this girls parents if she's 14 and was able to go to a nightclub and spend the night with a bloke.

Tell her the truth she's too young and shouldnt have lied to you and if you see her in the club again let managment know before someone ends up in court !

I was going to say its not the worst thing in the world an 18 yr old and a 14 yr old bec its only 4 years but then I remembered that when I was 14 I was dating a 19 yr old. I thought I was very mature and people often told me I was more mature for my age which of course made me think I knew EVERYTHING but while we were together for 8 months he liked me but I LOVED him and thought that bec he bought me a ring and wed been together AGES then that ment wed be together forever and get married etc!! HA! Now Im older and wiser I think he was fierce immature to be dating a 14 yr old and kinda sad into the bargain and I often wonder what was wrong with him!
I also dated a 23yr old when I was 17 and I met him in a club a couple of years ago when he told me id grown up very sexy - that made my skin crawl and kinda says it all when he had to use the phrase grown up - so after all that leave little 14yr old hot girls to the 16yr olds - you can date 16yr old hot chicks no bother!

    Well, that's what I'm thinking.

If you heard it from her, it ends now. If you heard it from someone else, confront her. Get proof if needs be.
The girl was obviously let into a nightclub where legally only people 18+ are permitted - so should he not be legally entitled to presume she was 18+. Is the nightclub not responsible in some way?
Doesn't work that way reallty. The whole legal furore which came up a few months back was over the issue of a reasonable mistake. That is, if you had reasonable cause to believe the other party was over the age of consent (being in a nightclub may count), then you can't be guilty of the act because there was no further steps you could/should have taken to ensure you weren't breaking the law. If you meet someone in a nightclub, you're not going to ask them to prove their age, nor are you entitled to demand that they prove it.

It's a bit too open, but the Government are rushing to close it and make it so that you go to jail, regardless of the circumstances, which is totally going to the wrong extreme in the opposite direction, but that's another thread.

AFAIK The nightclub's just responsible for allowing her to be on the premises while she was under 18. The op can't be charged because he assumed she was over 18, but now that he knows he can be if he does it again. So run for your life OP

    To be honest that's sick.

Your saying thing's like she is hot while you know she is only 14, your saying I cant stay with her can I as If to say do you think it's ok it's sick and dont lie you didn't go home with her to fall asleep.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭rugbug86

unless he's heard it from her, she may not be 14

going home with a 14 year old, parents anyone??? she's not gonna live on her own...

OP talk to her, then you can make your decision. if she's 14, get out of there, if she's not, confront the person who told you she was.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20 8thor2nd?

If she is 14 (or 15 or 16 tbh) you can't have sex with her. Bottom line. Regardless of how hot she is, you need to let her down smoothly. Say it's because of the law. Don't burn all you bridges becaues you probably want to get some of that in 4 years time.

I agree with that unless you were really drunk. I mean jesus how would you not know. 14 and you said not everything happened so something did happen I would guess foreplay. The word tight come's to mind.

I can't decide if this is for real or not

    1. thread title says gf but you only know her a few days.
    2. someone else told you or she told you?
    3. you get to stay in her house yet there are no parents around?

If this is for real then I would say you are clear over the first night because she was in an over 18's establishment so you can reasonably assume she is over 18 (but can you really, as most non-city-centre clubs I know have loads of under 18's running around, like a creche).

Either way, now you know she is 14 (or think you do!), so as Andrea Bocelli might say it's 'time to say goodbye'!

As for her becoming spiteful and telling people what happened...tricky, not sure how you would get away from that. Perhaps witnesses or friends that saw you in the club chatting with her would be enough to let people know you don't spend your spare time creeping around schoolyards looking for vulnerable schoolgirls!

    Just get out now.

right.. this sounds just a tad suspicous. if she was 14 how the hell did you manage to spend the night at her place? surely the parents would have seen you?
    Jail bate?
    i think you mean Jailbait

Is this for real? I've a hard time believing a 14-year-old can look 18. And the OP sounds way too clueless to be 18 himself. When did this happen? You meet her once in a club and she's your girlfriend already?

wow! dude hard luck there! seriously tho and i know this is completly off topic but how on earth does a 14yr old get into a nightclub and people at the age of 21+ get refused!?!? it really does annoy me......sorry for the rant...

He can still be charged for it. Its not very likely but possible.

Just to clear up the misleading comments on the law on this - all that Joe Duffy furore about 'paedos on every corner' was about this very issue. The old law said that there was no defence of thinking the girl was older. Once you had sex and she was younger, you were automatically guilty.

The Supreme Court said (personally I think not unreasonably) that that's unfair. They said that you cant say that automatically, in every case, reasonable mistake is irrelevant. In some cases, a person might be able to convince a jury they were mistaken about the girl's age(the OP's being a classic example where she was in a club).

It doesnt mean he'll automatically get off but the law now is that you can raise it as a defence. If the jury believe you, than you're not guilty.

This may come up if there's a referendum though - the politicians seem to want to bring back the old system whereby you can never use mistake as a defence.

Worth remembering when the chat in the press is all about paedophiles.

Who are already covered by other offences too btw.

If the 14 year old was male most people on this thread would be calling the Op a paedophile.

    That is very true.

But when have you seen a 14 year old boy actually looks 18 ?

Girls do develop alot earlier then boys.

I myself have a 14 year old niece, and she could easilly pass for 18. And a friends brother is 16, and still looks about 12.

But OP, we need to know, Did you spend the night at her house ? If so where the **** are her parents ?

also as said before, how did you find out her age ?

And whatever you do, drop all contact with her.

Only for her being on the premises.

Would you have married people banend form nightclubs in case they went home with the wrong person?

Be very careful, the door is closed. All those guys who still stand accused are facing other charges. The Supreme Court merely said you couldn't give someone a life sentence in the case of genuine mistake. You can still get 3-10 years even if you make a genuine mistake.
