it's not all made of cheese, but
The seismic velocity of moon "rock" is much closer to cheese than any rock found on earth. I admit that this is not conclusive proof that the moon is made of cheese, but in the words of the scientists:

Maybe the yanks are setting up a cheese mine ?

Very true. One of the greatest every achievements by mankind - getting to the moon - is being written of as Americans trying to trick people. So they used it as a tool to help beat the Russsians. Good I'd much prefer an Americanised world than a Rooskie one. Same with the Chinese.
It would be fantastic if they got to Mars. Sci-Fi becoming reality is always cool, it shows we've ambition left in humanity and aren't just resting on our laurels.

PS: I hate this 'moon landing was faked' sh1te as well. Men died trying to get there. They didn't really know what to expect up there but they were brave enough to go into the great unknown. I doubt many of the begrudgers on here would have a fifth of the balls those guys had.

Plus it would mean humanity may survive after we f*ck this planet up beyond all reason or blow ourselves to hell.

If life exists on mars, imagine the implications for us on earth. It would completely change so many things about they way we see ourselves and the universe. It would be chaos. Hence why it wouldnt be released to the world if life was discovered

There was talk of terraforming Mars some years back. Is it possible that they will be able to do this and maybe start with the Moon?

You can't terraform the moon. There's not enough gravity to hold onto an athmosphere. Not sure about Mars. It would take more than enough oxygen anyway. The radiation, winds and temperature would kill you and if there was a sustainable way to do something about them, it's a whole planet, it would be a massive undertaking. That text doesn't even do the massiveness justice.

You COULD terraform the moon, but it would only last a few hundred years at most. Completely impractical and the cost would be brazilians.

Mars is about half the size of the Earth. AFAIK the Moon is about half the size of Mars. Go figure.

With our current technology terraforming Mars would take centuries. First we'd have to heat it up enough so that plants would survive. Then wait for the little dudes to start producing Oxygen and create an Atmosphere. CENTURIES.
But with micro machine technology and designers materials it could be alot quicker.
Anyway, there's nothing wrong with giant domes. As long as they don't collapse on us or rupture it'd be cool \o/

one mole of hydrogen (H2) weighs 2 kilos.
one mole of methane (CH4) weighs 16 kilos.
one mole of oxygen (02) weighs 32 kilos.

    you sure about that?

I'm pretty sure they should be grams.

Those should be kilomoles (or change the mass to grams). The proportions are still the same. Should point out that this would require 500 moles of CO2 which would be about 22 kilos. Though apparently Mars' athmosphere is 95% CO2.

Find out how quickly the population here doubles. Then factor in a couple of centuries to do the terraforming. Also mars is the bottom of a gravity well, unless you use an aerostalk or whatever it's called only a tiny fraction of the population will ever leave the planet - the ultimate prison colony.

Space stations made on the moon might be a better idea if you want "living space"

also there is still the possiblity of life or microfossils on mars, until then no terraforming

the outer moons have atmospheres only because they are so cold, warmed up to 300K they would loose it rapid.

our moon is the 5th biggest and you could try for an atmosphere of uranium hexafluoride (heavy gas) but the UV would split off the fluorine which would then escape.
