a guy who seems to know his stuff is saying that ireland is temporarily experiencing a lull in winds but he says it will strengthen again soon as squalls cross the country and meanwhile in south england they think it could get as bad as the famous 87 event because such high winds are rarely experienced down there so damage will easily occur. see the bottom of this page:

The storm was said to be worse when the wind changes to a westerly direction, read that on a site somewhere. We must be in the thick of it now then, but it will calm again during the night/morning before it picks up strength again in the afternoon, (sunday).

Drove into work this morning to Blanch. The winds are very strong. I only have a little washing machine of a car and it felt like I was being rammed in some instances.

100-140kph expected this afternoon in SW as far as I know.

It also hit the west side of the house last night (which is quite rare side of the house ;) ). didn't see any tree damages or any serious flooding though.

Wind really got going here... similar to Snowbie with a really severe spell of wind followed a couple of second calm and then whooosh... The frequency of the gusts has really picked up though in the last 30 minutes.;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,235 ✭✭✭lucernarian

Really strong winds have kicked off here in the last 5 minutes. Gusts of about 60 mph.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,744 ✭✭✭kleefarr

Was very windy Kilkenny City outskirts last night.
Neighbours had a small gazebo in there back garden, metal frame pegged down with metal pins and ropes. Half of it ended up in our back garden and the rest is in the plumbers yard even further away!

Wind dropped, slightly, but is starting to pick up again. An interesting night ahead I think.

Winds gusting to 120Km/h and above now in Laois. I think the peak is around now, falling off towards 3pm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,033 ✭✭✭Snowbie

One of the neighbours spent awhile yesterday putting the outside christmas decorations up and looked very spectacular,he will spend awhile cleaning them up and locating half of them down the road now.
    Gusting over 40mph now.
