Been out in it all day, and damn it was stormy.. (it wasn't too cold either..)
It is a year to the day exactly when i last saw weather like this and we got a fair few big floods, but strangely enough, today there was no flood on my granddads road and that road always floods .. Granted the rivers were swollen, but not to bursting point, but i reckon if the rain kept up tonight, then the rivers would definitely burst.
There was a house back in Ballyferriter, Dingle that had its roof blown off last night, and i saw a few sheds knocked over (but they did look a bit suspect anyways..)
The surf coming into Inch Strand was absolutely vicious looking.. I wish i brought the camera, to get a few pics..

    No real letup.
It's eased a little but to just below 30mph rather than just above.

Mean for day till 8pm 29.5mph, almost assured of windiest day on record (since Nov99) and this without it being stormy. Max gust of 60mph is not very high.

Rain total is now above 20mm as well.

Virtually calm here, not much rain either. Was watchin the radar today on the a loop and echoes were decaying around my area over and over again. It lashed for 10 mins giving me only 3.6mm.It is drying up out there now.

GFS makes Sundays low worse and worse with every run, will have to be careful not to be blown away on Sunday:).

seemed very windy here at times today and earlier when I was in blanch but the rainfull was barely noticeable.. mostly just drizzle in the wind with some moments of rain, not enuff to cause puddles in the ground. The wind and the damp drizzle made it feel very cold tho.

Ok on the 0z we've lost the extreme winds Sunday afternoon... Still 50KT in the west and 35KT in the east..... but Saturday Night/ Very Early Sunday is when i really quite concerned for the East Coast...

Winds will rech 45KT-50KT all up along the east coast with gusts up above 70/75KT's possible otherwards 80mph gusts are becoming a reality........

Late night revellers on Saturday night will not enjoy trying to journey home across Eastern Ireland...

Coastal Regions of the East coast will recieve by far the worst winds of the winter with sustained winds reachign 50KT's or near 60mph... gusts will exceed 80mph and acroos coastal Wexeford may exceed 90mph.... it looks like the first bash of extreme winds will last circa 6 hours... then a brief respite before westerlies arrive with gusts over 70mph nationwide...

Overall a very dusturbing picture unfolding especially for the East who are not used to such disturbed weather.

Will people take time to go through the threads and post in the relevant thread please. There is a thread concerning the up and coming wind event already. If you need a thread title changed or updated the mods will change no problem.

    Thanks.

I think this event deserves a new thread tbh Snowbie this one is over 6 pages long now, a new thread dealing with this weekends event should be created imo.

yep agree, think this one merits its own thread if for no other reason to highlight it could be a bad one to the infrequent visitor here.

For the record, If the winds are mainly westerly this is probably going to be blocked to a large extent in Dublin and Wicklow by the Wicklow mountains as usual, that said the west and south east could take a fair battering.

Yes the winds on Sunday will be mainly westerly, but the really bad winds on saturday night will be southerly or southeasterly on the east coast and irish sea. They will bring quite a swell up the irish sea and all southern and western coasts on saturday night and on Sunday.

This may seem logical, but the strongest gusts in my station's history are generally from the west.

As for a new thread or not, I think yes and then sure it could be merged into this mega thread afterwards.

No Snowbie but I don't think irregular posters will bother reading through 6 pages to read what is going to happen over the weekend.

I don't want to go off topic too much or criticise anyone but I really can't understand why this forum is soooo strict on creating new threads.

I mean take soccer for example every weekend there is a new thread about whats going to happen that weekend, why can't we have a new thread for a big event this weekend which might help irregular readers see whats happening quickly.

Sorry but I just don't understand?

Hey snowbie i just think people think that it would be easier for a new thread to be started, for a clean topic on this event.... people don't want it merged among other events as it makes things messy and when people outside the weather come to view the thread they will find it difficult to know what page is referring to when etc. It's pretty obvious why people want a new thread but if you insist in not wanting one so be it and lets not discuss tit-bits...

Anyway i agree with Mothman in my experience round here, Westerly winds always seem to be the strongest.. Southwesterlies are blocked by the Mtn's... Obviously Southeasterlies effect here the most.

Here is tonight 12z UKM for phase 2 of the storm.. look at that gradient!! quite frightening! >80mph gusts in that!

Firstly I do think this is worthy of a new thread as it could be damaging for some structures

Erm WC that chart has isobars every 3 or 4 mb's so it looks stronger there then it is. Certainly though from the charts 140km/h is possible in exposed areas particularly.

The UKMO has several early warnings about this.

Whooaaaa there for a minute boys.
I merged your two threads into this one.If we were to recreate events in the last week or two regarding wind events, this forum would be filled with nothing but wind.(no pun intended)

    Well let me explain

I myself nor noone else would have believed a zonal setup of this kind was in the making giving us these frequent powerful LPs otherwise a seperate thread for infrequent events would be the norm.
I don't want to go off topic too much or criticise anyone but I really can't understand why this forum is soooo strict on creating new threads.

Weather happens every day.It be pointless to start threads about drizzle/haze or mist unless it is an intelligent.

In some instances it is easier to navigate a particular thread on home page on the forum, tis why you have stickies too. With several threads full of the same topic gets messy.

Ah so its a no win situation wit ye but i see all your points but see mine too.So to keep everyone happy i will reopen a new thread this time.

Could and obviously will turn out completely differently but this just shows you the possibilities. A very windy start to the new year with mean wind speeds of 57mph in Dublin and 58mph in Galway and pressure change of 16mb in 6 hours

Toss a coin, or a dice, both likely to be more accurate than a forecast this far out for new years....
