Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wind is really howling out there now, and according to my vp2 its raining cats and dogs again:D. I can hear quite a few alarms going off now. The gusts aren't that strong here, it's just the conistent strong winds thats making it so windy

Scary drive this morning into work. Was my first time driving in white rain - ie it was flooding all over the place and was so heavy it looked like a white wall in the headlights, scary stuff, took it very very easy driving in, mountain living is a whole new driving experience for sure.
Going to be interesting once the proper cold frosty weather sets in.

Very stormy charts tonight, just one storm after another following up from the atlantic, and it doesn't look like we're going to break this pattern anytime soon. It's only a matter of time before one of these storms really starts to cause damage. Currently some very intense wind and rain progged for thursday and Sunday on GFS.

Threat of stormy conditions Wednesday into Thursday seems to have disappeared on the latest runs.

I don't know about the 06z but the 12z still keeps the stormy conditions

although it severly weakens Sunday's low, which is interesting possibly a change to slightly cooler conditions after that

All calm here so far, not convinced this is going to be much on the eastern seaboard yet.

It's reletively calm everywhere now. The wind forecast for Dublin on xweather is for winds stronger than the Southern and Northern coasts and the only place with higher winds are coastal parts of the west of Ireland and Scotland. The current forecast(right of the picture) gives a mean speed of 45mph for Dublin. I don't really know how this one will turn out but it's certainly forecast to be bad

Been out in it all day, and damn it was stormy.. (it wasn't too cold either..)
It is a year to the day exactly when i last saw weather like this and we got a fair few big floods, but strangely enough, today there was no flood on my granddads road and that road always floods .. Granted the rivers were swollen, but not to bursting point, but i reckon if the rain kept up tonight, then the rivers would definitely burst.
There was a house back in Ballyferriter, Dingle that had its roof blown off last night, and i saw a few sheds knocked over (but they did look a bit suspect anyways..)
The surf coming into Inch Strand was absolutely vicious looking.. I wish i brought the camera, to get a few pics..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

    No real letup.
It's eased a little but to just below 30mph rather than just above.

Mean for day till 8pm 29.5mph, almost assured of windiest day on record (since Nov99) and this without it being stormy. Max gust of 60mph is not very high.

Rain total is now above 20mm as well.

    Belmullet was becalmed at 1900!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,033 ✭✭✭Snowbie

Virtually calm here, not much rain either. Was watchin the radar today on the a loop and echoes were decaying around my area over and over again. It lashed for 10 mins giving me only 3.6mm.It is drying up out there now.

seemed very windy here at times today and earlier when I was in blanch but the rainfull was barely noticeable.. mostly just drizzle in the wind with some moments of rain, not enuff to cause puddles in the ground. The wind and the damp drizzle made it feel very cold tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Ok on the 0z we've lost the extreme winds Sunday afternoon... Still 50KT in the west and 35KT in the east..... but Saturday Night/ Very Early Sunday is when i really quite concerned for the East Coast...

Winds will rech 45KT-50KT all up along the east coast with gusts up above 70/75KT's possible otherwards 80mph gusts are becoming a reality........

    http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn481.png

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Late night revellers on Saturday night will not enjoy trying to journey home across Eastern Ireland...

Coastal Regions of the East coast will recieve by far the worst winds of the winter with sustained winds reachign 50KT's or near 60mph... gusts will exceed 80mph and acroos coastal Wexeford may exceed 90mph.... it looks like the first bash of extreme winds will last circa 6 hours... then a brief respite before westerlies arrive with gusts over 70mph nationwide...

Overall a very dusturbing picture unfolding especially for the East who are not used to such disturbed weather.
