Theyve got greeters in some Claires Accessories too. I dont like greeters, its a nice idea but make people feel uncomfortable.

Newspaper vending machines where you put in the money, open the front of the machine exposing all of the newspapers... and taking just one.

No way would an Irish person take just one newspaper....

"Think I'll buy the times..... better take 11, I might make a mistake in the crossword or I might want to make some papier maché.

Hi im a Newbie, first post.

Am "Tipping"..I was in NY with some mates a few months ago and they ask for Tips for EVERYTHING, one of the lads got pissed off with this barman who we tipped ( supposedly a 5dollar tip is not enough ) for getting us our drinks. He was mad at getting just a 5dollar tip for serving 5 lads a round of beers that he actually would not serve us for the rest of the night.

If they dont like the job or are not getting paid enough id tell them to lump it.

They are actually supposed to supply these people but you have to ask I think.

What bar was this? $5 is plenty to tip for 5 drinks. $2 would be the norm for that. Unless this "barman" was named Savannah, and naked, and giving you all lapdances as "he" handed you the drinks.

Dr Pepper dont think the stuff ever really caught on in Ireland even after the big advertising push!

One thing that i would like to see working in Ireland that is happening right now over here is Electing the Judges, Sheriffs etc! Maybe then in ireland the Judges would hand out proper sentances to rapists etc instead of the farce that is the Irish system. Cause they would actually have to work well to keep their jobs!

Wether 5 dollars is enough or not, tipping in America is more important than here because of the wages system. Waiters(esses) and Barstaff are not on a minimum wage in America, and are usualy paid roughly 2-3 dollars an hour, so they basically are making their living off tips.

Wether the system is good or bad the point is, you are expected to pay their wages, and they will get upset if you don't.

The leprechaun got too powerful so say the rumours so they sent him off to the US, ya know like they do with things in Ireland that get annoying, Ronan Keating, me, etc. :) I sent over a few boxes to a boardsie not that long ago if you are stuck.

you are not under any obligation to tip anybody it is not law in the states but you are expected to tip as you see fit to do so for example sheit service 10% tip excellent service 20% tip medium then the accepted standard 15%

on topic: the naked cowboy on times square would never work over here nobody would give him any money!!!!

At one time I was drinking three cans a day!! Then when I realised how many calories there were in a can I stopped overnight, lost a lot of weight and am probably responsible for the sudden unexplained drop in sales :D

Beverly hills 90210 would not work in Ireland, not even in D4 :)

While I was there last year I noticed that you go in and pay for say twenty dollars of GAS (Petrol) and then go out and pump it. This was the first time I have seen this before or since. It was my first time seeing it while out there as I never visited a GAS STATION, that Americanised institution until 05 and that seemed to be the norm in the several that I later to proceeded to visit while travelling in a typical American fuel efficient vehicle 20MPG

I don't think paying for fuel first would work here as it is hard enough to get them to pay after filling not a mind before.

In Dublin after 8 or 9pm a lot of petrol stations get you to pay first then you fill up.

Definitely that one. Also, leaving garden furniture or the kids toys (bikes, etc.) out in the garden all the time. I'd imagine they'd be nicked in an instant in Ireland.

What you do in this case is start a tab lads. I live in Florida and if I have in a pub for a night I am not going to give the bar people a tip every time I order a drink. I asked for a tab to be stared and leave my Debit/Credit card behind the bar and when I get the bill I tip 15%. I would in me arse give out 2 or 3 bucks for every drink I pay for, that way I would be paying Dublin Prices…. LOL

Drive-ins are a rarity in the States also now. Apparently the biggest culprit in their demise was daylight savings time.
