So, I'm living in house 91 and my internet is crazy...I got it working for ONE night and then the next morning all I could get was 'Apache Tomcat 4.04 http status 500' in the browser.
It's driving me insane!! I've been trying to get online since I moved in, I had to upgrade my OS and spent FIVE hours in IS services and still could only get one night with the internet working! What gives?

When I get the Apache Tomcat error it means that I have to reconnect to the network. Try closing your browser, reopen it, type www.tcd.ie and go through the connection thingy again. Works for me every time.

If you have turned your laptop off over night (or even let it hibernate) you'll have to go through the connection process again, bit of a pain in the ass but that's what we gotta put up with.

What if it won't let me get to tcd.ie?

Probably not- I tend to spend most of the day in the college and by the time I get home it's about time for a nice cup of tea before bed. :)

I'm the guy who occasionally rollerblades across the bridge (it's quicker than walking when I'm calling over to friends in 84).

    You got it. ;)
Speaking of which, when is the gym going to open?? It's driving me insane not being able to exercise properly with the short days and all that now!

I'm pretty sure LUCE is closed today. The gym is open

    monday-friday 8am - 10.30pm
    Saturday 9am - 3pm
    Sunday 10-2pm

If you like pushing your physical limits you may be interested in my fitness class on saturday mornings at 10.

If you were actually talking about the gym in halls (is there a gym in halls) sorry!

Meant the gym in halls- it's one of the main reasons I chose to live there!

It shouldn't, you should be brought to the authentication page on the ISS website, you'll have to go through that again. If not, then I guess it'll be another visit to ISS on tomorrow, or maybe knock on some CS student's door?

iirc, the apache tomcat **** is easily solvable - something about having another instance of your browser open I think. You can use Oldham House in the meantime.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 561 ✭✭✭paperclip

that's what I've been doing- using oldham house! I'd rather just solve this, what exactly did you mean about another browser window- do you mean open two browser windows and use one to go to the iss authentication site? When i opened it, it just says 'apache tomcat' on both. I don't know any cs students!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

I'd fix it, but I dunno how. All I know is, my flatmates and 2 friends had the same problem (it's really common).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 561 ✭✭✭paperclip

so nobody knows how to fix this thing? The college network sucks- they're far too harsh, methinks.

Should I bring it BACK into ISS?

Hi, I'm Cian, I'm a CS student and I'm living below you.
Chances are however I won't be able to do much.

I fixed it! I went to the is services help page (here: http://isservices.tcd.ie/network/snac_help.php)

    and here's the solution:
    isservices wrote:
Tomcat Error - 'No context configured to process this request'After having registered successfully, some users may get the above error on subsequent connection, particularly users of Internet Explorer on PC. The suggested resolution for this is to try clearing the web browser 'cache', then close and relaunch the web browser.

If you are using Internet Explorer then, to clear the cache:

    Launch Internet Explorer
    Choose Tools - Internet Options
Under Temporary Internet Files choose Delete Cookies and choose OK when prompted to confirm.
Then choose Delete Files, check the box to 'Delete all offline content' and then hit OK.
Click OK to close the Internet Options box and then close Internet Explorer.
The problem should be resolved upon reopening Internet Explorer.

    So there we have it!

On a side note, people, wouldn't it be a good idea to set up study groups within the halls? Things like physics for first years and so on. They could meet somewhere in oldham house and bring cookies and tea for the session...?

paper clip we are getting onto it as quick as we can manage! there is a service guy coming out tomorrow morning who is going to service all the machines that are actually still working and jp has a few new bits and pieces purchased that we are expecting to be delivered by this weekend so with al and all i would hope that by next week we could be opened. thing is you have to go into luce hall firstly todo a quick intro course in how to use different things etc. again luce hall charge for this so jcr are in process of working something out with them to see if theyll allow halls residents do the intro thing for reduced rate if not free altogether.
when the gym opens it will be basic golore, but we just wan toget it open and running, we are allowing a lot more spondoolicks this year than last years jcr to the gym because last year entering th gym was a health hazzard rather than anything else so we really hope to have 100% improvements finished hopefully by christmas.

ALSO guys, dont forget halloween shin dig going down in halls tomorrow nite! fancy dress and all that halloween malarky in blue room in oldham house ( same place as orientation weekend!) free booze and food, and we will also be selling tickets for €6 for citibar for afterwards. tickets on the door at citibar are going for €10 so why not! plus citibar is €2 all drinks all nite, for those of us on that skinny budjet (ie ALL of us!!!)

so hope to see all you guys tomorrow nite yes yes?!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 561 ✭✭✭paperclip

Cian, guess who you held the door for this evening?? It was only when I was going upstairs that it dawned on me.. (tall, red hair, glasses, ground floor apartment, hmm could that be Cian?) I figured there wouldn't be that many people matching up to that description, so...

    Nice to meet you! :)

Memories! :) I'm thankful I don't have to deal with anybody out there any more! Two years was enough! And spending about a week with intermittent hot water was nearly enough to push most of my flat over the edge! I'm glad to hear it's no better now and that others have to suffer like we did :D

Just to even things up about about the Accomodation office. A friend of mine had a problem with their fridge door. Some womble in the office told her to use a sytofoam homemade door. I am serious. However, within a couple of days she got it replaced. Actually, this is a rather mixed review of the AO
