was watching it last night :) freaky deaky
Its a whole lot more credible now acorah isn't around and Ciaran O Keeffe's input last night made it interesting, him having a reasonably respected position in the group. (and him being the guy who ousted acorah for bs'ing)

Havent watched it for ages, because I hate all the table tipping and seance stuff they do, but maybe like you say its better now that Kreed Kafer is gone. Wont catch it tonight but its usually on for a few nights, right?

I love that Kreed Kafer story. Poor Derek...

I watched it last night. I see Yvette is still on her usual 'I'm not scared, you don't frighten me' followed by ' Aaarrhggghhh, what was that!'.
If I was a ghost I'd slap her.

    heheh
my fav was when she walking into the attic and she was being all brave, which was promptly followed by "FÙCK..what was that..oh wait it was just my shoe"

I just can't take MH that seriously any more... not that I watch it these days, mostly because I haven't got Living TV at hom, just the standard channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

after I heard the whole thing was a set up I went off it like milk in a microwave. Kind of like pro wrestling

Did watch some of it on Friday and also last night, it was ok, but have to say you do miss DA, if nothign else he is alot more colourful.

That new medium Ian someone, looks just like Harry Hill!
Do you know I agree with gillo, he may have been odd but you do miss old Del boy, never mind I'm going to see him in September. Even though he's about as pyschic as I am.

    kreed kafer
did anyone see dereks appearance on Tv's 100 most funniest moments? Think he made it into the top 30.

Just want to make this poll to get all the opinions..

    Is most haunted fake?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

I did think you'll get all the opinions with a poll like that. How about a few more options?

I personally feel that though incidents have been faked there is no way you can discount as everything that has happened in all the years of MH has been faked.

With regards to Derek Acorah, i think that he gave into pressures involved with the LivingTv CashCow and laid it on thick but dont believe that that has always been the case.

I cant vote with just the options given.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,715 ✭✭✭marco murphy

    What options then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Well its you that wants to know what people think but maybe some options like.

    1) Yes I believe it was faked from the start - its entertainment after all.
    2) No I believe it is genuine though some people may over react.
    3) I believe it started off genuine but has been force to "get results".
    4) I cant say either way though some of the incidents are very interesting to watch.
    5) I dont care if its faked or not its rubbish.
    6) I dont care if its faked or not its just entertainment.

Pick some of these if you think they are suitable - but its your thread so do with it as you like.

The question that the OP chooses to ask is his/her prerogative, the same applies to polls.

Like i said at the start, I would have a problem responding to this poll and was just trying to point out that he may get a better response with more choice.

Peoples opinions are not always cut and dry especially in an area like the paranrmal as they have not much solid to base it on.

At the end of the show you'll notice they state (audibly) that MH is psychic entertainment. I haven't been a regular over the years so I don't know is this clause was only added after viewers complained to ofcam, who ruled that the TV show contains "a high degree of showmanship that puts it beyond what we believe to be a generally accepted understanding of what comprises a legitimate investigation. On balance, we consider that overall Most Haunted & Most Haunted Live should be taken to be a programme produced for entertainment purposes.”

Ofcom has also been quoted in conjunction with the Most Haunted case of saying "As such this programme should be seen in the light of shows where techniques are used which mean the audience is not necessarily in full possession of the facts." Thats the official stance. Imo, it just a TV show, albeit with some elements of truth.

    Hiya,

I have to agree with 6th regards to Derek Acorah, also I don't think its very intelligent if you are sensitive in any way to go around letting yourself get possessed-it must leave a mark on you

    Regards to all

I have observed David Acorah on many occaisons and it left me with the conclusion that he plays purely on the reactions of the people in prensense not the dead, We all get overwhelmed but that guy is a total fake...

Anybody can talk like that man, all you have to do like most crooked mediums, is to get a bit of knowledge on the site, history and the person who is supposed to pocess you, almost like learning scripts for the days of our lives:rolleyes:

finally if you believe that man, You might need a kick up the arse!

I don't think the show is fake, but it's aimed for the entertainment, what isn't these days

Derek Acorah is hilarious. He seems to just make up words as he goes along! I've often found myself in stitches while he explains his surroundings and his interpretation of the ghosts. Top quality TV! :D

Currently reading a book called "Will Storr Vs The Paranormal", in which he attends an episode of Most Haunted Live, as a verifier, he caught a glimpse of the production assistant's schedule, on it were marked the times where Derek would experience a "happening".

Haven't watched a live episode, but in the nonlive episodes I liked the way they have the sceptic give explanations for all the "happenings" that occur. Stealing the thunder from anyone who'd try to criticise the show.

how did he oust acorah? ... not a regular watcher of most haunted

Prefer Dead Famous, because at least the presenter (whose name escapes me:mad: ) has a healthy dose of scepticism.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

Cactus, that book is brilliant but remember he does say that stuff happened that he couldnt explain - battery failure and lights etc.
I think maybe there is a difgference between "is most haunted a fake" and "is derek acorah a fake".

I recommend everyone read the Will Storr book - he's a very good reporter and throws himself at the paranormal putting himself in situations most people wouldnt go near just to see what exactly is going on.

Agreed. Gail Porter is the wee lass. I love dead famous. Much more scientific in my eyes. Chris Fleming doesn't go overboard and admits that he cant see spirits etc just feels them. Its a very good show. Great one last night with the tv turning off and the shadow in the mirror. Plus they use EVP more ofen which usually guarantees a sleepless night for me!

    Kidding!

Anyway, what would you need for this paranormal calender?

reminded me of a dream last night. I was just dozing off and while I had turned the stereo off before shutting the eyes, I must have been dreaming I was still listening to it. I felt too tired to move but really wanted to turn it off when the song that was playing ended and the silence was filled up with static. I knew what was going to happen next and sure enough a creepy voice broke through and said "it's me....Harry". At which point I told myself I had turned off the stereo, that I must be dreaming and was kinda relieved to open my eyes and find out I was.

Well i watched it last night and was well impressed. See the thing is when he said his battery was going dead we have to take his word for it . We have experienced a drain in battery power on site. He also felt fingers brush off his face which can be an examlpe of sensory deprivation, i experienced this too but I want to keep an open mind about it .
I can understand that it is easy to believe the knocks on the walls when they are in Kinnity having a conversation with whatever is down there but again unless i experience this myself its very hard to believe.

    Kinnity?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,133 ✭✭✭mysterious

David acorah is a yob. I have perfect judgment of him, just by observing him, i know what hes like and what kind of an upbringing he might of had, I can easily see how works people, he ain't psychic, but it's all in how he project himself. Get's paid for a job from people who are gullable to believe in his stuff.

I e acts like a child would, let's face it, children do the things he does on small scale. Come's accross like a guy who has a troubled childhood.

    Drama queen

    Complusive disorder

    Bull****ter

    Attention seeker

He has done nothing that is psychic, mysterious, amazing etc.

Funnnily enough all those words seems to have a simalar meaning.

actually i have just read over what I posted and realised that unless its me reading it , its confusing.

What I should have included was that the Most Haunted Crew did an investigation in Kinnitty Castle and when they went down to the gym they heard baning on the walls . Acorah (spelling?) and the Historian fella accompanied by two of the production crew were communicating by having the ?Spirit? bang once for yes and twice for no. Anyway the girls freaked out and ran screaming. It was all a bit "Hollywood" to be honest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,844 ✭✭✭py2006

I liked MH but recently haven't bothered watching it! I do find Acorah to be very convincing. When he spits out all the info and names etc he isn't saying it as if he rehearsed some lines. If he is then he is probably one of the best actors we have ever seen.

I'd say on the live shows they are under pressure for something to happen but I wouldn't go as far as other posters are saying that he is a total fake! People who don't believe claim everybody is a fake and a liar which doesn't really work for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,844 ✭✭✭py2006

Apparently, parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe who worked on the show claims the whole thing is faked! If you do a google on it you will read an article he did for the Mirror paper!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

I lifted this from the Mirror Website dated October 2005

SPOOKY TRUTH: TV'S MOST HAUNTED CON EXPOSED TV
    By Matt Roper
THE TV show that has spooked millions with its footage of hauntings and poltergeists is today exposed as a fake - by one its own stars.

Resident parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe has sensationally lifted the lid on the ghosthunting series, Most Haunted ... and claims that the public are being deceived by "showmanship and dramatics."

He accuses the show's medium Derek Acorah of hoodwinking viewers by pretending to communicate with spirits and obtaining information about locations prior to filming.

The Mirror has also obtained unedited footage which appears to show presenter Yvette Fielding and her husband faking 'paranormal' occurrences such as ghostly bumps and knocks.

Most Haunted has quickly achieved cult status since it was launched in 2002 and is LivingTV's most successful programme.

Millions of viewers tune in regularly to watch Ex-Blue Peter girl Yvette and her team of ghost hunters spend the night in some of Britain's most haunted locations.

    Personnaly, I find that article to have two major flaws;
1; it's written in the Mirror, personnally I wouldn't read the paper, but any time I have flicked through it I have found it to be badly written, sensationalist & questionable with regard to alot of articles
2; if the article is an accurate description of what happened or is happening on the show, then how come no other papers picked up on such a good story
3; What Ciaran O'Keefe did was entrapment, while he does have a job to do, entrapment dliberate entrapment does not stand up a legal evidence in court. The reason when is that it leads someone to do what you what them to do.
4; If Ciaran O'Keefe believes that that show is faked surely he would of left the show and disassociated himself from any further shows. This callls into question IMHO his own credibility.

I don't beleive that the show is faked, but I do think that it is "spiced up".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,247 ✭✭✭✭6th

All true Gillo plus the courts couldnt not rule the show as misleading and according to a source of mine the courts gave favour to the show but could only claim it as "entertainment" as to give it any validity would open up too many other questions.

Of course in sayin that i believe they over react and dont go about things the right way, this added with the fact they have the pressure of having to deliever makes for a bit of common sense on the part of the viewer.
