Lol... I'll probably stay out of the footie. But last year prop bets were flying on pool, bragg and a certain frame of 10-pin bowling :)

The Tilted Kilt in the "village" area of the Rio became our unofficial home last time.

Crikey, this Rio place must be HUGE.

just curious, since a lot of ye seem to be in either the Rio or the Flamingo, what are the poker rooms like there?

The last time I was in vegas I stayed in the MGM and quite liked it there. Nice pokerroom and always had a few 1/2 tables (for this poor fish to prey on the poorer fish) on the go.

I went around to a few others and found that the poker was pretty poor in a lot of them. i.e. excalibur only had limit. bellagio was plush, but only had higer nl limit tables, the luxor is madness, don't think new york had much poker at all...... etc etc.

I never got near the flamingo, rio and a few others. Contemplating where to stay for the few days (looking like ill only get the weekend out of it). trying to weigh up price Vs location Vs poker.

As far as where to stay I went for cheapest. In the end I chose the Imperial Palace and the Trop. As for the poker well I don't mind travelling to another casino to play.

I agree I think the MGM has the nicest poker room , for value the orleans room is always busy and the hotel a lot cheaper. I was in vegas six weeks ago and a lot of the poker rooms were very quite (Paris Venitian Caesers) . I dont know does it really matter where your staying though as on the strip its only 10 minutes on the monorail or in a taxi to any hotel.

For anyone wanting to play away from the WSOP I'd recommend the new poker room at Caesars. What's so nice about it is the fact that it's an actual room away from everything else.

Scuzziest poker room had to be the Sahara. Might be good for a laugh.
Cash games at Mandalay Bay were good as well.
And I liked the Green Valley Ranch out in Henderson.

Don't whatever you do eat at Gaylord's in the Rio. Expensive and rubbish.

And if you are in the Tilted Kilt someone order the Corned Beef and Cabage which is apparently a traditional Irish dish?????? It can't really be corned beef can it?

ya, thinking of staying in Excalibur now. Its a cheap hotel with a ****ty casino, but its connected directly with the MGM, and close to pretty much everything.

I played in the Aladdin and MGM the last time and like both poker rooms, also heard great things about Ceasers.

Luxor was a horrible game and the Excalibur was meant to be good for fish.

The best tourneys seem to be the Bellagio.

I don't plan on playing in the Flamingo. The advantages of staying there are:

    - Its centrality at the heart of the strip.

    - Price

    - Proximity to Caesar's and Bally's, where I have heard there are great NL games for my budget.

    - Its swimming pool stays open until ten.

Just thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention on the offchance that someone had an old passport and didn't realise...

    http://oasis.gov.ie/moving_country/passports_and_visas/machine_readable_irish_passports_and_travel_to_the_US.html

all passports have to be machine readable to get into the US. 90% of passports issued are but if anyone planning to travel got a 10yr passport a few years ago, it is worth checking.

basically if your passport has <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< at the bottom of your picture page then you're fine.

my good deed for today. kinda hoping someone with a main event ticket can now play becasue of me and will cut me a % :)

I'd imagine there are very few who would be affected by this as I got my passport renewed last year, but the one I had for the 10 years previous was machine readable also. I'm sure some may be produced somewhere (perhaps embassies in other countries??) that may not be readable but pretty much everyone should be ok. You will have to get fingerprinted though as the biometric ones are not in general issue yet (and if they are there are very few out there).

No harm for people to be aware though I s'pose, I'm not trying to contradict you Karl (just in case you think that), I am just adding to it.

i hear ya, i just read something about it and nearly shat myself thinking i didn't have one.

i heard that it is possible to have gotten a passport in this country which may still be valid for travel but not necessarily machine readable.

don't think the fingerprinting is going to go down too well with some on this forum though :)

My mate got caught out on this one last year. After a worrying delay he was let through. My passport runs out next year but is machine readable so yes it looks like most should be fine.

Zeik Tuit had to get an emergency one in London last year, then he flew to Los Angeles and got *a taxi* to Vegas. Arrived 24 hours late, showered, registered for the PLO and monied!!

I may be wrong (and probably am) but don't you have to have the passport now with the really hard plastic ID page in it to get in to the states? If you hold the page up to the light you can see an image of your picture drilled in to the plastic beside your actual picture.

    stop scaring me

    * Were issued a valid passport before October 26, 2005, with a machine-readable zone"

I heard the biggest winner of the week so far is up 20 mill already. They reckon it could be the biggest cash swing ever.

    Hi,

I'm going 20th until the "end" and staying in Rio.

Turns out it is illegal to stay in a hotel for a month or more so I will be checking in on the 12th, will get straight into a cash game off the plane on the 11th and stay there for the 12 hours or so till my room is ready.

I seem to recall one person who regularly flying to LV writing in a book (might have been Holden) that playing after the long flight before sleeping wasn't a good idea.

is it not possible to book a different hotel?

dont think many players would be in a fit state to play just off a 10 hour flight, assuming your flying from europe.

Flamingo is the oldest one on the strip, and up until 2003 it was a dump apparently... but it was renovated in 2003 and now it's supposed to be nice enough. Nothing amazing.. the pool looks nice though and it's close to everything. 24th to 11th is costing about $1700 for twin room (so $850 each) i think with the wsop rates.

plus theer are so many staying there we should be fine for sharing taxis etc... go on... book it!

How come its so cheap on the wsop site the room rate seems to be higher than that?

I still dont have accom sorted $1700 seems good value

it works out (after tax) at 1850 from 24th to 11th. You should book - there a re a good few of us staying there!!

Had a nightmare today... I booked a room from 12th July to 11th August for myself and oscar.. I forgot to mention I wasn't getting in till the 19th. This has caused major problems with hotel security.. ... I have to fax photo ID credit card info, passport etc over to them. Oscar might also have to pay 200 per night security deposit until I arrive ... Also, it's now illegal to stay in a hotel for longer than 30 days.... ridiculous. must be some anti-terrorist law or something. The airline/or An Post have also lost our flight tickets.. :(:(
