    Lordi definetly deserved to win. It was a decent song, and they're a good act. I wouldn't run out and buy one of their CDs mind you, but compared to the usual Eurovision standard, their song was a masterpiece.

    As someone had already said, Finland has a lot better bands to offer though, and even Nightwish were supposed to have tried for the Eurovision at one stage. That would have been interesting, and they're certainly a far better band than Lordi.

    Although speaking about lunatics in masks, Lordi are fun, but they're no THE BERZERKER!!! :D
    Now that's lunacy in a mask done right.

    Well, I think Brian Kennedy did us proud. He did as well as Ireland's ever going to do in this contest, considering the way it has gone to the dogs. Must admit I voted for Lordi (much to my husband's annoyance!) - they were outrageous with a sense of humour, and the song was not too bad.

    I guess Eurovision is important to us because of multi cultural society etc but I am amazed after 4 years of poor finishes that we are not questioning our participation. I reckon that RTE don't want to win it and see it as a great junket for staff, producers etc and nothing else. The show is like watching Eurotrash - where has it gone ? I could see Uk threatning to pull out along with say germany or France and then the competition will be rejigged. Even if there were juries, there would still be bias. We did so well for years because of OUR impartiality been on the periphery of Europe and all that. It would be sour grapes on our part to pull out. I also bet that the show has high ratings but i would imagine a lot of older folk will stop watching it now.

    Was delighted Finland won it. By far the best of the lot. If i had been giving the votes for Ireland, it woulda been 12 to Finland, 10 to Lithuania and 8 to Armenia(i actually thought that was somehow near good). Did anyone hear Terry Wogan giving predictions on who would vote for who? Was hilarious when France hadnt giving anything to Britain and he was sayin they always vote for them, then France gave 12 to Armenia or something. He was just speechless when Lordi won it. I think that woman for Lordi should really shut up, could have been much better if she wasnt there. Lucky Turkey was the last to give the votes, otherwise Ireland would have had to qualify next year

    people are taking the contest way too seriously. its an enjoyable evenings entertainment.

    the fact that each act is 'representative' of each country is inconsequential.

    Was it just me but their was a hell of alot of booing going on during the whole thing, VERY bad form in fairness!
    I'm curious to see will Lordi go to #1 download spot on the likes of iTunes now :)

    Yeah, Lordi won! I really hoped that they will win.
    And Lithuania was funny, I thought they would get more points.
    But I think our dear Olli Dittrich, who played the drums in Texas Lightning, could have done better. He once had a great band (Die Doofen). And he's one of the best german comedians, he's better than he was yesterday.
    But I love the guy who gave our votes. Thomas Hermanns, he's also a great, gay comedian and I was happy that he did that.

    Iceland really got booed on Thursday. The only booing I heard last night was around Lithuania's performance (and during the results, when the Greek entry scored badly - the home crowd didn't take well to that).

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,645 ✭✭✭✭nesf

    It was simple really. Lordi were pure unadulterated cheese. And what is the Eurovision all about kiddies?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,257 ✭✭✭SoupyNorman

    Lithuainia should not be let into the EU after that performance. I was enjoying the cheesy performances and some HOT HOT ladies until these absolute muppet heads came out. It wasnt funny, it was downright pathetic and the bald fella who looked like he needed a straight jacket would cause serious injuries to patrons of nightclubs if he *danced* like that. Every single person who voted for them are all accessories to musicide!

    I'm guessing the age profile of voters has changed since the introduction of text voting.
    Still, I enjoyed Lordi more than the anything else, and I haven't been young for decades.

    They got some boos when they went on and off during their performance as well. They deserved it though, They treated the contest with disrespect in my opinion, as did iceland.

    Even without the visuals, lordi's song was great. First time since the Olson Brothers that a song deserved to win.

    i can't believe anyone here would say the contest had reached a new low,
    this is by far the highest point the eurovision could ever hope to achieve,
    lordi are a good band, who right catchy rock songs and yes do dress cheesily and hilariously but more than deserved to win.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 17,988 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

    People complaining about this year's winner being a disaster or a poor show... I can only assume you want the same bland euro-pap to win again that does most other years? Lordi surely had the whole pre-requisites for what people like about Eurovision:

    * catchy song
    * fantastic costumes
    * great on-stage presence
    * high camp (the little Finnish hat perched on top of the demon get-up was superb)

    I honestly can't recall a better winner in my lifetime.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 24,924 Mod ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

    They deserved it though

    Well, the problem with Iceland is that Silvía Night is a Ali-G-esque character, so when viewed in that light, the song makes sense as a piss take. Icelandic humour didn't seem to travel very well, however.

    The Finland song did what it says on the tin, entertained! It was a good song, good performance and when compared with Lithuania (which was a send up) or the song that finished 2nd in actual voting in Croatia (plus the fact that the singer is a failed porn actress and former pop star) it was a worthy winner.

    Take out the political votes and Finland still tops, with Ireland closer to the lead.

    Good show, especially the wind up of the closetted greek presenter by the Dutch voter.

    give up and admit that brian's song was boring. nice ballad performed professional, but still boring when comparing it to others in the final. finns did great thing, maybe next year there will be less abba style songs in esc. i think after finland and lithuania this contest became more open for humor and other styles of music and this change obviously is good.

    I emailed the Conan O'Brien show and asked them to book Lordi. I reckon its worth a shot because he's been obsessed by Finland ever since he found out he looks like their president (a woman!).
