Don't forget Oola and Moira, they sound like girl's names.

Interesting you mention Newtwopothouse. There was a mention of an ancient settlement being found there, but they talked about Twopothouse, so wondering if the "new" actually means something (its very close to Mallow).

My personal favourite is Skiheenarinky. When the main road went through it, it didn't even mentioned traffic calming.

Really? I'm (kinda) from Mallow and didn't hear anything about it.
As for the "new" bit, there's an Old Twopothouse aswell (of course!), so maybe both together are just referred to as Twopothouse?

Some great place names in Cork - Aghabollogue, Bweeng, Dripsey, Halfway, Leap, Nad (sometimes spelt with two A's), Ovens, Riverstick.
And in the city you have Dyke Parade and Gurranabraher (there's nothing quite like hearing the word Gurranabraher said with a thick Cork accent! :pac:)

Oh, and there was a similar thread a couple of months ago and I mentioned Skaheenarinky in Tipp! :) I've relatives living near there, it's fecking tiny!

On my way in to work, little private group of houses down the Ballymun road coming into Galsnevin called "An Tard" which means "The Rise".
    An Tard sounds better though.

Coming from what side. Waterford or mooncion. The original name is Grannagh not granny. It is a tough one cos all the local yockles call it granny.
Sure ya have grannagh castle out there across from the tatch pub, Grannagh. Im not being pedantic just stating a fact.

There's a place at the back of the airport goes by that name and another place out towards Lucan or Celbridge with the same name.
I've heard tell it relates to when highwaymen roamed those areas.

Not sure if many would have heard of these areas near where I live, but the street beside where I am is called Fanny Avenue, and adjacent to that is Anal Lane.

This messer in school once told me that there is a 'Birdhill' nearby. Yeah right!

I've seen signs for Do Not Pass, I presume it's on the road near Milltownpass and Tyrellspass... :)

Hidden Dip is another town I've seen signposted but never found... :)

There's Recess, where 'nothing ever happened,' for anyone who has seen the monument erected there...

Muckanaghederdauhaulia (Muiceanach idir Dhá Sháile as Gaeilge), with the distinction of being the longest place name in Ireland...

Best one I ever seen was passing through county Leitrim one day and came across a sign for "Gowel". Class! :D And for those that don't believe me:

My ex-boss worked for David Bowie while he was rehearsing for the Drum& Bass tour he did a few years back; he went into the room to find Bowie on the floor with a map of Dublin, and he pointed out several "wierd" place-names; can't remember them all but they included:

    ring's end
    balls' bridge
    still organ...:D

Who knew that Dublin place names are full of sexual innuendo!!

Claregalway - it was years before I realised it was a place name - I thought it was a county border area - Clare-Galway, like Laois-Offaly or Carlow-Kildare etc. So to me, it's silly, and confusing!
