Normally her cutesy, dipsy, schtick drives me up the wall but she was watchable in that.

Sky1, 9PM Sat: Insomnia. Dir. Christopher Nolan, starring Al Pacino, Hilary Swank, and Robin Williams very effective playing against type. Solid remake of a Norwegian thriller about a city cop trying to track down a murderer in the land where the Sun doesn't set for months at a time.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Might have been a good film but we had to switch it off after five minutes
the main character voice was so annoying.
As Gore Vidal said he sounds like a Brussels sprout. :D

In case any one's wondering why Goldie Hawn became famous before her daughter did, there's a chance to see Private Benjamin on Saturday night (RTE1, 11:55pm). The film was nominated for three Oscars, one for Goldie herself as a "Jewish Princess" who is duped in to joining the US Army after her new husband drops dead "in the saddle" on their wedding night.

"What, the Army couldn't afford drapes? I mean, I'll be up at the crack of dawn here!"

It's not just fish-out-of-water comedy, though, we also see Judy Benjamin start to assert herself, and learn that she doesn't have to be pushed around by anyone. It's feminism of the gentlest sort, you might say, and I also liked it because it doesn't have a neatly packaged ending.

So why hasn't there been a remake yet? Just wait ...
