That's a shame, it's an extremely well liked film. But hey we're all different.

This week has quite a few gems showing. Film Four again leading the way. They're showing the 240 minute eccentric and brilliant Love Exposure again on Tuesday at 11, and continuing well, well into Wednesday :P

Thursday they really knock it out of the park. Starting early with an 11 AM Ozu Good Morning. Haven't seen it, but it's hella rare any classic Japanese cinema gets shown on TV anymore so I'll be there. Then an interesting double bill twelve hours later with F.F. Coppola's masterpiece The Conversation and Antonioni's challenging but very rewarding Red Desert. The latter won't be for everyone, but at the very least will provide plenty of visual treats for the committed.

And early next Sunday morning (or late Saturday, whichever you prefer) standard Channel 4 are showing the excellent Poetry from Korean master Lee Chang-dong. One of last year's best films, and featuring arguably its best performance with Yun Joeng-hie.

    Some good films on tonight..

Michael Collins is on RTE1 at 9.35 (always worth the watch)
Panic Room is on TV3 at 9 (not the best film ever but enjoyable enough)
Precious is on BBC2 at 10.30..a fantastic film and so moving! I saw it last year and I loved it, difficult enough to watch though as it touches on a lot of sensitive subjects
Avatar on Film 4 at 9..this has been on a lot over the past couple of weeks and I think RTE will be showing it soon enough aswell
The Fugitive is on TCM at 9

Love Exposure, one hour hence, Film Four.

It's the best four hour Japanese film about upskirt photography you'll possibly ever see.

Lee Chang-dong's Poetry is on Channel 4 tonight. A beautiful, tender and poignant drama about an elderly woman in the early stages of Alzheimer's struggling with her morality after discovering a family member's role in an horrific crime. Not quite as cathartic as Lee's previous work, it's reaching for something more transcendent than that and IMO achieves it. One of the finest films of last year.

Dog day Afternoon on RTE1 tonight at 11.50 pm

Submarine is on Ch4 11:15PM. Very hard to explain, this one, but I liked it, and so did the critics. I'd call it Character-Driven, since everyone in it is a right Character.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

This is directly followed by Water Lillies, an excellent French coming of age story concerning a young swimming team. Excellent soundtrack, too.

On now. Absolutely loved it when I first saw it. Didn't plan on watching it tonight but now that it's on, I can't tear myself away. Grinning like an idiot throughout!
