    Tonight's decent films include:
    Hot Fuzz (TV3, 10:30)
Burn After Reading (UTV, 10:35). (Bizarre Coen Brothers film about espionage and ... a gym)
and A Very Long Engagement (UTV, 2:30am) - which I haven't seen, but heard good things about. Dir. Jean-Pierre Jeunet, with Audrey Tatou (Amelie), Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising), Marion Cotillard, and Jodie Foster.

One for the daytime tomorrow is Always (1989): Steven Spielberg's remake of A Guy Named Joe (1943). A daredevil firefighting pilot buys the farm, but returns to haunt his old girlfriend and help her new boyfriend. More interesting than it sounds, with Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, and Audrey Hepburn in her last film role.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Miller's Crossing at 2:10 on Sky Modern Greats.

Probably Gabriel Byrne's best role in a fine Coen Brothers film. Jon Polito is excellent.

A daytime classic on Wednesday (Ch4, Noon): Roman Holiday, with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn - the film that made her a star.

Advance notice of possibly my favourite movie of 2011: Le Quattro Volte is on Film4, 11:35PM on Tuesday. After I first saw it I said:
There are characters, but no dialogue, not unless you include barking, coughing, bleating and crackling. The camera never moves unless it absolutely has to. There are more animals in the film than people, and they are more animated and interesting - especially the goats. (No, no-one stares at them.) And then there's the scenery: it's set in and around a medieval town in Calabria in rural Italy. If you want more details, there's a good review here.
PS: I remember Dr. Kermode liked it too, if that helps:
