In 2003 I got a cancer diagnosis. Outlook was chemo immediately or I'd be dead within 3 months.
I returned down the country to tie up loose ends and pack a bag, and that night I had a dream.
My best friend had died of cancer 7 years previously. We were close in age-a couple of weeks between us, socialised together, and were extremely close. Anyhow, I dreamt of him that night for the first and only time since his death .
He appeared to me surrounded by unbelievably bright light, so bright that I wondered how was it that I could see him clearly yet not be dazzled by the sheer intensity of the light. He looked healthy again- thick head of hair, and strong in body, quite unlike the guy who had been ravaged by his illness so much so that he weighed less than 6 stone when he died. He looked straight at me and smiled, and I heard him call my name and say "you are going to get very, very sick, but you will not die".
He did not speak the works, but I heard them clearly. That's all I remember.
Sure enough, the treatment was horrendous, the anti-nausea drugs did not work and I spent days vomiting relentlessly. The only respite was at night after I took a sleeping tablet. Eventually I refused the last chemo, because I felt I couldn't go through another round, despite my doctor pleading with me to have it. I did tell him that I was confident that I did not need it, but this was only because of what I had dreamt.
I often wonder if it was real or just my mind preparing me for what was ahead

Just as I got notification of your post, Brian Cox comes on the radio saying that if Ghosts actually existed, the Hadron Collider would have discovered them.

    Christ.

In 11 years I'll be in my 40's thinking, "huh, I was in my 20's when I posted this".

Dunno which is scarier, that thought or this thread...

Hope this keeps going, I have read the very interesting stories and I have had experiences myself. While I tell my self I am a skeptic, there have been a few experiences I cannot explain. My mother in law used to be in a prayer group and the prayer group was held close to where my parents lived. Occasionally I would travel with my mother in law and she would drop me to my parents and collect me after the prayer group when she was going home. This arrangement went on mainly during the winter as the nights are so dark and she would be travelling country roads alone and I got to visit my parents once a week without the kids.

One evening, she had collected me and we were about twenty minutes away from home when we were travelling along a very dark country road and came to a cross roads. Up ahead we could see the lights from the town and the ditches on either side of the car. I was looking ahead when I could see a man standing on the grass verge on the far side of the cross roads. He was about mid sixties, with extremely dark eyes and what was very disturbing was the shape of his mouth and the fact that it was opened impossibly wide. He also appeared to be standing down in ditch. I couldn't take my eyes of him and he also looked directly at us in the car and continued looking at us as we passed. As I was processing what I had seen the car locked and my mother in law asked if I had seen what she had seen. I agreed that I had. The following day I drove back to the spot (I was so curious) and discovered there was no ditch at all.

Another time years ago, I was dating a boyfriend, who is now my husband, but we had gone out for the evening. Yes, I did have a few drinks. When we got back, his mother had put a fold out bed in the living room for me to sleep on. It was a very breezy night and the noise of the wind howling down the flu of the fire kept me awake. Eventually I drifted off to sleep. At about 3.30 3.45, I woke up and looked into the corner of the room. There was a woman (she was solid) standing in the corner dressed completely in black and looked as if she was praying. She had black gloves, black victorian style dress and black rosary beads. I'll never forget it. I just looked at her and consciously decided to lie back down and go back to sleep. To this day I don't know why I didn't get up and run. She was still standing there when I lay back down and closed my eyes. Some years later, I went to see a medium who told me I had seen many things and mentioned the lady in black. She explained, I had awoken into a different dimension and had not seen a ghost. To me I was wide awake when I saw her, I remember thinking to myself, "I can't believe I'm lying down while she is still here" but did it anyway.

    That sounds interesting!
Did the medium say any more about awaking in a different dimension?

I was a skeptic until last year   now I do not know.

I worked at Houston Diesel for 3 months last summer. Dealership right next to West Houston Airport. It was last July, 7th or 8th (do not recall). We all heard a loud crash, thought it was a traffic accident. About 4 minutes later I witnessed 4 men moving (not really walking) down the street. there was something very odd about these persons.. perhaps it was the way they were dressed (2 had business suits on) as inappropriate to weather. Maybe it was facial expressions.

Nexxt thing we knew the public safety response was huge so many of us went out into the water (humidity) and heat toward the sound of fire trucks, sirens, etc.
There had been a plane crash. I learned that nite 4 men had been killed. I felt stunned thinking about the strange men I had seen on the street. I can't prove any of this but the next day I learned others at the dealership had also seen the men.
I am no longer in Houston area but if I was , come July I would keeping my eyes on street.

Two of the 4 victims were women though.

seems one passenger was definitely female
My brother just told me about this. His wife works with one of the passengers on this flight. She and her husband were heading to Fredericksburg for the weekend with friends. She had never been in a single engine piston and voiced her safety concerns with her workmates. Apparently, she nervously joked with the office that this would be her last week and that it was good knowing everyone. Last contact was an Instagram pic of her holding her bag in front of N32KK 5 minutes before departing. Her caption: "well, this is happening". Then the news came. Left two young children behind. RIP

Well it looked like 4 men from a few hundred feet away though  as I recall we all were indoors (it was god awful /humid as usual) and sight duration was but a few seconds given the rush of activity in the area following the sound effects and alarm ( which initiated folks running outside .  Maybe it was nothing to do with the crash, but it was awful strange (who walks that time of year ...though it was more like they were moving, not walking). they looked like people though, not will o wisps.

I had a haunt experience as a child (in Hackensack NJ (fully urbanized area 1 or 2 miles from Manhattan) that even had my father, a practical engineer, spooked. turned out to be a family of raccoons moved into the space between walls  (house was 75 years old then but was fifth house built on foundations laid in 1712).

I posted a few stories to this thread in the past (under a different user-name) but was viciously 'attacked' for telling yarns from 'the auld times' and my stories held NO interest for the youth of today (I'm 67 btw)

A thread like this, you must agree, is wide open to abuse from trolls, liars and mischief makers, but, on the whole, I find folks are honest.
I've never suspected anyone's stories as being down-right lies; a few might sail close to the wind, or are re-hashed / re-heated older stories.
I wouldn't post any more here for the reasons outlined above.

'Tis a great thread though and interesting.

Not a real ghosty story but nevertheless I would like to share

My father died from cancer two years back. My mother recently got his headstone fitted on the grave. She is a great believer in the old theory that a visit from a robin is actually a visit from a passed loved one. Therefore the headstone she got for my Da has a lovely little verse about a robin - something like ''I am the robin that visits you every day..,I will never leave you...I will never fly away''. There are also two stone robin ornaments there.

Anyway, We spent a week in Ireland recently - staying with my mother. One morning, my husband and my 3 yr old son were sitting in the mothers living room watching early morning TV, and in flew a little robin and sat right on the coffee table between them and the TV. It wasn't at all afraid like birds normally are when they get inside, flying around hitting themselves off the ceiling etc...
After a minute, it flew back out to the kitchen and found its way out the back door, where it came in (the door was only slightly open).

My mother was delighted when they told her, and it made me smile too. I would like to think it actually was my Da coming in to say hello!

his experiences are too many to count , he once asked for 10 years for a lady suffering cancer, so that she could raise her young children . she was on her death bed . She got her 10 years , and shortly after her funeral she appeared to my father . She said nothing , but to him she was as real as anyone he had ever seen

    I could go on.
