Hey dont worry about it. It's only your first year semester 1 exams and you can always repeat. I would recommend that you do the exams anyway even if you know you'll fail, just for the experience and to get a grade that you can aim to improve for the repeats.

Last year I knew I was going to fail some exams (did no study until a few days before) so I just did some day before cramming and sat the exams anyway. It's not nice going in and answering just one question and then waiting til you can leave but still I managed to pass most of them... only failed two.

This year (final year) and I've haven't done much study because.. I'm an idiot :p ... you'd think I would've copped on after last year. So probably another year in college for me.

Anyway failing isn't the end of the world. Just accept it, pass the repeats and be more prepared next time (unlike me :D)

If ya have to repeat the year, do ya have to pay the ~€1,000 for each module ya have to repeat?

If you don't fail, but don't perform adequately, can you *request* a repeat? (Stop laughing - it's a serious question! For...er...a friend...yeah. Let's call him Leon.)

no, as far as i know you cant re do a module you've already passed

    edit: changed failed to passed!

    yeah, sorry!

unless you have extenuating circumstances, you *might* be able to defer it, rendering the other result invalid. but unless its an illness that occured just before/during that exam, it won't work because the forms had to be in before the exams. (obviously you can get a doctor to sign the form and say you were sick on that(those) days - make up an illness if needs be)

i defered 2 exams when i was in first year because i had 2 ear infections and couldn't concentrate. also they were so bad they made me sick. so bad that i puked in the examhall...

if ya need more info on how to defer stuff, pm me.

no, you can do it 2 ways:

    way one: externally:
just pay a fee and sit exams. no lecture attendence. (but if its a big class, lecturers won't see one extra person...)

    way two: internally:
pay fee and then pay for each module you want to attend lectures for. most people only do this for labs or lectures with continuous assessment.

ah thanks a lot, and one other thing, ya know if ya repeat a year and then want to go into 2nd year, does anyone know if ya have to pay for each year afterwards?

i repeated 2 modules in first year and all i had to pay this year was registration fee. the college defers accepting your payment from the government (free fees deal) so they nothing really changes in that respect.

If you fail a final year exam you're screwed right? Cos if you have to repeat in August you can only get a pass degree. So the only other option is to drop out and repeat the entire year . Is that right?:v:

eh know....however it depends on the degree!

Generally in final year; modules are grouped in fours / three etc (eg. 4 groups of 5 credit modules = 20 credits) and an average grade is taken so if you fail one and do grand in the others => :)

Hmmm, haven't heard that one - as far as I know failing a final exam doesn't prevent you from honours classification. Then again, it's DCU so anything's possible!!

It's true in Computer Applications anyway. If you score below 40 in any module, highest you can get is a pass degree. Even if you get compensated and don't have to repeat. Not sure if you can even just repeat the whole year to get a better mark

you repeat the assessments. some lecturers might let you carry it through, others will make you repeat the year.
