Boards Draft Tournament - New Signups!

So we've done a few of these before but I don't think there has been one for a good few years at this stage now. They are good fun and we are in the middle of a no World Cup or Euros summer so why not.

    The rules are generally :
    • People sign up in the initial thread (this thread). Declare interest below but please only sign up if you generally look at boards fairly regularly as we don't want to be holding other users up from their picks and slowing the game down.
    • After, a random list generator is done to determine the picking order
    • Posters generally have around 24 hours to make their pick before they are skipped. When you make your pick you pm the next person on the list to let them know it is their turn.
    • We go until everyone has a full team and then we have a draw to pit poster's sides against each other.
    • Other posters can come in and thank the post of the team they think is better.

Example of a picks thread for a previous draft : https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=73979193

First off I think we should decide which kind of draft we want to do,

1] All time Premier League Draft - all PL players are available to draft here and we will presume they are at the peak of their ability while in the PL.
For example you could pick Edgar Davids but you would get the level Davids was at while at Spurs and not the Juventus Davids.

Could be a really interesting one as since we last had a draft we've seen Man City put up huge point totals and we've seen a very good Liverpool side emerge. Conte's Chelsea also won a league and Leicester City's miracle story so there's a good few new players to pick from.

2] Current Premier League Draft - all current PL players available at their current level. For example you pick Sanchez you get United bench Sanchez and not Arsenal Sanchez.

This draft could possible have less room for arguments as we generally see these players play against each other week in week out so it's a bit more straight forward than an all time fantasy draft but would obviously include a much smaller pool of quality players so could be more about who gets the handful of really top level players.

3] All time English league draft - Like the All time Premier League Draft but it's for the entirety of English football. For our "Football wasn't invented in 1992" crowd.

This could have a few problems with players that many have not heard of or seen play so could make it a bit messy but on the other hand it could have the potential for the most interesting sides.

4] Current European leagues draft - All players from any team in Europe. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Juventus along with the English sides etc.

Again, has the possibility for some very interesting teams. You could see some hidden gems from across Europe come to light in the daft from some of the more continental of the boards soccer forum posters.

5] All time European cup competitions draft - All players who played in the Champions league, Europa League, Cup winner's cup or European Cup are available.

The best of the best really. The biggest hitters from Europe's most elite all time sides.

6] No restrictions - They played football? They are eligible.

Could be great, could be a ****show

    ********************

We can have some suggestions and we can discuss further rules before starting up.

I think we'll limit it to 16 posters because I remember it getting bogged down before when we had 32 teams. People losing interest as they were waiting so long in between picks and then missing picks and it made the whole thing slow.

I'll leave the poll open until 21.30 Thursday and hopefully we will have 16 people by then and we can move forward with the picks starting Friday.

But first and foremost we need to decide on the type of draft so vote in the poll.

I'd be up for it yeah!

Thought the PL one with a few bonus rounds thrown in worked well the time it was done.

It might help attract people if you actually call it a draft and not look like you are calling boards Daft :pac:

Are teams pit against each other and then the amount of thanks decides the winner?

Are there 3 votes for current PL for jayo26 showing for everyone? How did you manage that? :pac:

I've never taken part in one before, and I don't want to derail the thread anymore, but does it not turn into a poster popularity contest? Or is it usually genuine?

I never felt it went that way before to be fair.

At the end of the day there's nothing really on the line so hopefully people just vote for the side they actually think is the best. I'd say the majority will.

Haha damn I thought no one would notice haha jokes.

I actually refreshed the page by accident and it voted 3 times for me I was just finishing up a post elsewhere and coming back on to mention it.

One way that is sometimes used that only votes made by comment count and then use the thanks in case of a draw

11 out of the 16 places gone.

Actual current poll numbers are :

All time Premier League Draft - 5 votes

Current Premier League Draft - 6 votes

Current European leagues draft - 3 votes

In, think I won the last one of these I played!

All time European Cup could be interesting but it has zero votes. Went for current Premier League, could get challenging with such a small pool of quality which might make it more interesting

How would new signings be looked at in a current pl draft?

If Messi signs for Burnley is he fair game?

Well It would be judged on Messi's form at Burnley, doubt he would have as much influence there :D

Messi and Crouch partnership up front. League winners right there.

That's something we'd have to set in stone before the draft starts.

So I'd say as it's based on current ability you could take their previous season record into account with the obvious caveat that they are not PL proven so you are taking a risk.

As an example someone joins the league who scored 15 goals in Serie A would be looked on more favourably than someone who joined and had scored 15 goals but in Norway.

But both would be looked on less favourably than a player who scored 15 goals in the PL last season as its a Premier league draft and they have proven themselves in the league.

    Does that sound fair?

Alternatively we could set the cut off point for players that played in the league during the 2018/2019 season so it's all a bit more concrete.
