Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd say it's a Captain Marvel joke. Captain Marvel was a bloke before but died. Now she is Captain Marvel. The actress is Brie Larson.

I know all that but what does it have to do with Michael Myers? Are there nega bands involved?

Was it a 2009 Vs. 2019 thing? I still don't get it, though.

Yeah, I've done a search to find any links and I have pretty much nothing else that's of substance. This one has gone completely over our heads.

The only thing, as previously suggested, is perhaps the facial expression, with the mask symbolising the emptiness of her persona.

Or it was a nonsense post, like a few a couple of years ago that someone posted just to make everyone wonder what they meant (they meant nothing, BTW, and, IIRC, even at the time the poster never bothered to explain).

Brie Larson was told to smile more when the trailer for Captain Marvel released last September. I assume that's why she was compared to the expressionless Michael Myers mask.

Yup, that's it. There was a similar, but wholly more obvious, meme on funsubstance or 9gag in the last couple of days. I'll see if I can find it.

H is the eight letter in the alphabet. 88 is a number that Nazis like because it would be HH which is short for Heil Hitler. A lot of online Nazis have 88 of 1488 in their names.

From Urban Dictionary (which lists a whole rake of non-Nazi references):
    3. Nazi skinhead code for Heil Hitler. H being the 8th letter of the alphabet, therefore 88=HH=Heil Hitler. Often found at the end of Nazi members' e-mail addressees and signatures.

    4. The 88mm Anti-aircraft vehicle was a greatly feared Nazi weapon during WWII; because of this weapon, Nazi's were sometimes referred to as 88's.

    5. David Lane, a convicted neo-nazi, wrote "88 Precepts," a book outlining the methods needed to establish an all-white community.

Another one was the use of "55" in CW by older German radio operators, they used to do "HH" until they couldn't, so changed to "55" instead.

    In CW, HH .... .... and 55 ..... .....

I told you before, Gozunda, stop trying to sell MY stuff behind my back! I'm still heartbroken about those acres I had on the Moon, I'll never get them back, now, and I didn't see a cent of the profits you made! I still don't know why my solicitor won't let me sue you...

It's not the photography forum, it's more of a thread where people can post photos they like, irrespective of how good they are technique-wise. It's not a thread for "real" photos only, either, BTW.

I'm wary of veering away from "Discussion" and into "Back Seat Modding" here, but if you'll bear with me for a mo...

    The OP said (my emphasis):
Hows about we start a cool pictures thread. I've seen loads of photos that are great but don't belong in the photos that shook the world thread.
If it catches on, can people please give a short description of what the photo is. And provide links if you want.

The intention of the thread is "great photos". So, yes, the skill of the photographer comes into it: a bad photo of a great subject is still a bad photo.

But, yes, if a photographer wants to show off their own skill, then the Photography forum would probably be a better place.

That said: Back garden photo from same poster = much better!

Not playing professional basketball is not the first thing I'd associate with being Irish. (Technically it's not wrong, but it's hardly relevant)

We don't have cops here; we have the gardaí. (I don't think I have any relations who are a guard, firefighter, bartender, etc, though happy to acknowledge I'm probably unusual in that regard)

Most of my childhood meals were roast, not boiled.

Didn't spend much of my childhood on my knees in prayer.

I certainly don't know a Sully MacMurph. I've never even called anyone "Mac"; that's an Americanism. Macker, yes, but not Mac.

I don't have any sisters or cousins called Mary, Eileen, Catherine or (another Americanism) Colleen.

And as a chess mod, I do have to point out that I remember 14 moves of theory in the French Winawer Poison Pawn variation, so it's certainly not true that I only remember grudges. :)

So yeah, some of it is true, and it gets more true if you go back maybe ten years from me, but it still just comes across as an Americansed view of Irishness.

News reports on Friday said Shamima Begum's baby is alive and well. Leading to theorists believing that the other two are also alive and possibly just taken for future recruiting.

I don't know anything about that, but I have visited some toilet sites on the internet.
