Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm curious as to what people think Bono has done to warrant a title of greatest living Irishman?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,910 ✭✭✭thusspakeblixa

    Mine would be
    1. Dylan Moran
    2. Roy Keane
    3. Pat Ingoldsby (now THERE'S a legend for ya)

Together with the rest of the boys in U2 he has created the best body of work of any rock band over the last 30 years and he has used his fame to try to effect change for the better in the world with regard to justice, climate change, equality of opportunity etc

He can be a bit of a bore to listen to at times but so can 100% of men, Irish and foreign - just most people dont have the same amount of positive attributes.

Who's this Bono chap? Never heard of him. He must keep his head down and out of the limelight?

    I'd say Roy Keane.

I can't believe John Hume was only mentioned Twice.

Seamus Heeny got a nobel prize didn't he? ok so I don't understand any of his stuff But Nobel Prize man ! Its gotta be like the Academy awards of Literature :D

Jack Charlton was given Irish Citizenship so he is going on my list too.

His falling-over-after-the-putt-with-massive-combover inspired the legend character, Big Ern McCracken (Kingpin)

Why are people naming so many non-Irish or dead people in a list of greatest living Irishmen?

    Anyway...
When it comes to putting Ireland on the map nobody comes close to U2 and particularly Bono. He has to be the greatest living Irishman/person.

Whoever classed Tommy Tiernan as a 'greatest living Irishman' wants their head examined!
