I can never understand why the draw is made so far in advance of the tournament. Also I think only the semi finalists in one World Cup should automatically qualify for the next with all the other teams having to go through qualifiers. This was the way it was for the 1999 and 2003 tournaments and worked well IMO.

Probably an element of helping to shift tickets.

Would be utterly pointless having the tier 1 nations go through qualifying. If anything, the shift to top 3 qualifying the next world cup is a good one as it gave some teams a bit more to play for.

I'll say this for ITV, they do make beautiful title sequences.

Very much an evolution of their 2011 effort. (still gives me goosebumps)

As for their 2015 effort, well, the less said about Paloma Faith, the better.

Pity World Rugby have ditched World in Union from the world feed titles.

    I Agree, a travesty!!

Dunno what to make of Boks. Forwards strong. Backs not very cohesive and relying on flashes of brilliance. Pollard not at his best today. Finished with Allende and Jesse Kriel who are just your typical battering ram centres who never pass! They will be tough for who ever faces them....

I see they have also ditched the Springbok Emblem for the Protea flower entirely.

Kolbe with 2 excellent solo runs but no support at the end to finish it off. And his 1 other chance was from a piss poor pass from Le Roux with the line wide open.
Was also pretty good under the high balls.

After those 2 tries SA did a good job not letting NZ run away with it, only 6 points added to the NZ total in the last 55 minutes.

Least SA know now what needs to be done in the rest of the games in order to qualify and wont meet NZ again until the final if both make it that far.

Great game, even if we lost.

Kolbe is electric, can see him carve up some teams this RWC.

Not sure why the Irish in the crowd were singing Fields of Athenry, not complaining though.

Kolbe was shut down fairly handy by Leinster

Let him get a head of steam and he is dangerous but turn him and he is at best average

    It's still on their sleeves.

Cracking game. Just finished watching it.

If we play SA we need to pull them all over the park.

Yeah, they always have to do this for the RWC cause of the world cup logo taking up one side of the jersey.

Are you seriously expecting Italy to have a realistic chance of getting out of their pool? Snowball`s chance in hell IMO.

Highly unlikely yes but Italy have beaten them in thelast two years. It would be like Japan beating South Africa in last World Cup.

Can we all stop with this idea that teams are so controlled that they can take it easy when in the middle of a bruising WC game trying to get marginally better draws. The only way this can happen is if they pick a weaker team, and even those guys will go hell for leather. It is not at all prevalent for a team to go 80% or mind themselves when playing the ****ing All Blacks and still come out within 10 points of them. That was a first choice SA today and they had a humdinger of a game. Two great teams.

    Any reason why?

Was it played at opening ceremony?

in fairness that was 3 years ago (nov 16) and with sth africa at their lowest point really in a november friendly in an Italy home game.

not a hope of this happening now. would be a bigger upset that Japan beating them last time.

I think it would be as big a shock as the Japan win. Of course South Africa should win comfortably on recent form but Italy will be well drilled and could make it uncomfortable.

an inanimate carbon rod would have beaten SA that day

Just a pity there are no games to look forward to in the afternoons or evenings.

I'm watching France / Argies now

Absolutely crap. No scoreboard makes them nearly impossible to follow when they don't show penalties or conversions.

Any one have a good timetable of all gamrs in Irish time? The Guardian has good schedule but in Japanese time. Useless so.

Wesley Fofana has dropped out of the French squad through injury. Such a shame that a great player retires from test rugby like this.

The World Cup app is pretty decent, shows game fixtures in your local time and you can filter by pool.

Didn't think anyone could put together highlights worse than the Pro14 but here we are. It's such a missed opportunity, the Japan highlights have nearly half a million view in a day, safe to say a decent number of those could be from potential new fans. Good incentive to watch the full games back though.
