As I said, there is a wider discussion to be had around cancel culture and the likes, but I really struggle to speak to anybody who uses terms like SJW and Virtue Signaller as disparaging terms in an honest debate, so we shall part ways.

No problem and great username btw.

The truth is though that you rarely if ever hear of the term SJW or virtue signallers used in a complimentary way!

I’m still enjoying this storm in a teacup and because of this controversy I now know that there is funny goings on with trudeau and the oil companies. Investigations, he may get impeached.
It really is hilarious that all these internet trump haters make it a full time job to stop trump. Accuse him of everything they can make up while everybody who opposes him or looks different to him is hailed as hero’s.
Trudeau, Clinton, Macron. All bastions of the new utopia we will have once trump is impeached. All look dodgey as fick.
Whatever they do is suddenly a non issue but trump said he grabbed a girl by the pussy once in a private conversation where he could have been joking for all we know.
I honestly had no feelings towards trump before all these internet people started hating him. I’d no interest in American politics. I have started to see Donald as a hero now. They just keep flinging mud at him but nothing even gets close.
Internet bullies can’t take down a 70 odd year old man. Any 70 year old I know needs their grand son to come over and turn their computer on for them and yet the Donald owns it.
I sit back happy in the knowledge that all these twitter protesters will go to the end of the que whenever a new job is advertised and they apply and a simple background check is done.
Like the people on LinkedIn that comment on everything.

I honestly think trump is less of a sleaze than these hero liberals and I think he is less corrupt.
I couldn’t care less though he has taken such a hammering that if I seen eveidence that he was embezzling billions I wouldn’t care.

His daughter will be first female president of the free world.

Sorry, the world is complex. What Trudeau does has absolutely no bearing on what Trump does. They are in different parties, different countries and two different people.

Eh, never said otherwise. Feel free, however, to argue with yourself.

Why would people be delighted? That is the saddest **** I have ever read. Some people must live utterly miserable lives to be delighted that a politician on the other side of the planet got one in the eye.

Here's the thing- If Trudeau came out and said, "This wasn't racist, it was just dressing up for Haloween"... he wouldn't be seen as much of a hypocrite.

He said indeed it was racist and he should have known better.

Mr Trudeau is hoping Canadians will accept his begging realisation that “now I recognise it was something racist to do”.

Do the people defending him realize he has admitted this was a racist thing to do? These people seem to think it's ok to blackface, yet Trudeau himself doesn't..
The problem is when you speak out from a perspective on the left that doesn't fit this orthodoxy you are immediately classified as on the right, which makes it look as though the left is monolithic and shares this opinion; but this is not the case

Trudeau says so but does he believe so? With upcoming elections he needs to toe the populist line and say what needs to be heard.

But did anyone else read that maybe Trudeau is into cosplay ?
    - at least that might explain not remembering how many times he'd blackface-d ...
I've only found this link, with more funny pictures about him https://mjolnirmagazine.blogspot.com/2018/02/trudeau-left-as-cosplay.html

OK the dressing up is very weird. I hadn't seen the pictures of him dressed up in Indian traditional clothing. What an absolute tool.

The article and the oh this means that all lefists are all racists is a load of crap but I will admit the various outfit wearing is extremely weird.

Isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

I mean I can't see someone dressing up as blackface intending to insult black people. Am I wrong?

The funny part for me seems to be that it's ok when 'we' do it and not when 'you' do it... i.e. Meghan Kelly.

    Nah, once again:

Just to let every one know, there are at least two paid shills/posters here.

My sister is one of them. They can sue me. I can prove it.

You know who I'm typing about.

    I'm not a multi-cult anymore.

I find posts like this one of funny, given that Trump has done far, far worse things relatedly before and since winning the presidency, and people across the right have made never ending excuses for him, often in direct contradiction of their own attitudes towards Obama or Clinton.

Meanwhile the Trudeau situation is sold as both a) an example of left wing hypocrisy for not hanging him out to dry and b) an example of left wing militant puritanism for...hanging him out to dry.

Just to say in advance, I ****ing hate Trudeau, he's a smoked salmon socialist in the Tony Blair vain, swanning around apologising for **** that it doesn't cost him anything to apologise for and that doesn't make a lick of difference, and getting lots of handy praise from other middle class "socialist" twats for his identity politics ****e, all an obvious cover for business as usual corporate shilling and total disregard for the lives of actual working class people. The black face thing is objectively ****ing hilarious and it is really funny to watch identity politics gowls twist in the wind over this.

But could the right wingers spare us the gloating? At least until you've repudiated that fat orange pig-bollock they crowned in the USA? This doesn't make Trudeau worse than him, believe it or not.

It's intellectually disingenuous to respond to an opinion without facts. Please provide examples to back up your claim of Trump doing worse. Your response is a typical strawman argument

Not a "right-winger". Just an individual who's capable of forming their own opinions and that's see's hypocrisy for as it is.

Most left wingers walk a fine line with racism under the guise of their pretend virtue signaling and identity politics. Most can see through this after a while.

Student union politics is a charade.

There is a difference is saying racist things and being racist. I remember as kids eeny meeny miney mo didn't have a tiger in it. Were all the kids in my class racist or were they just repeating a rhyme they heard.

That statement makes logical sense but "the left" has used so many accusations like this to do with "cultural appropriation" etc as a weapon so it can be used in their campaign of political correctness, which has now backfired on them terribly. The same standards or tactics that they were all too happy to deploy unto others who did not agree with them

Where does it end? Who says it's acceptable and who says it is not. No one can! It comes down to individuals being uneducated prawns, whos unable to call bull*t when they see it. Unfortunately, there are people who are incapable of thinking for themselves. People who become judge and jury and believe that it is only them who are in the right.

Trudeau is working hard to turn the page on his numerous blackface incidents and has unveiled an election promise to ban assault-style, semi-automatic sport rifles in Canada and launch a program to restrict handguns in big cities, along with new regulations to end the “glorification” of firearms in sales. Never let a crisis go to waste, eh?

You can ignorantly accuse me of "whataboutism," but what it really is involves identifying similar scenarios in order to see if it holds up when the shoe is on the other foot!

I think it's more that he's desperately trying to come up with something else to distract from this scandal.

But it isn't working. He's now 5% behind the Conservatives ahead of next months election.

    It's behind a paywall so I'm going to c & p relevant parts here.
Canada’s Conservative Party has established a five-point lead over Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party heading into next month’s October election, according to the first poll since three images of the prime minister wearing blackface emerged.

The parties were running neck-and-neck on Wednesday, when Time magazine published a photograph of Mr Trudeau covered in brown make-up at an Arabian Nights-themed private school gala in 2001.

Within 12 hours two more incidents emerged: one was Mr Trudeau singing Harry Belafonte’s Banana Boat Song at a high school talent show, the other “a costume day for river guides on the white-water rafting operation” where he worked in the early 1990s.

The Canadian leader apologised and acknowledged that his actions were racist. “The choices I made hurt people, people who thought I was an ally,” he said. He declined to rule out the existence of more such photographs. . . .

Andrew Scheer, the Conservatives’ leader, said that Mr Trudeau was “not fit to govern”. Speaking at Prince Edward Island yesterday, Mr Scheer, 40, said that the affair showed “who Justin Trudeau really is”. One Conservative campaign slogan that predated the scandal seemed apt: “Justin Trudeau: Not as advertised.”

Nik Nanos, founder and chief data scientist of Nanos Research, which carried out the latest poll, said that the blackface affair had hit Mr Trudeau’s support. “The advantage Justin Trudeau has enjoyed for most of his mandate as prime minister has effectively evaporated,” he told The Times.

The poll, sponsored by The Globe and Mail and CTV, has the Conservatives on 37 per cent and the Liberals on 32 per cent. “With the increase in Conservative support it is expected that the spotlight could shift to Mr Scheer as Canadians view him as a potential prime minister,” Mr Nanos said.

Mr Trudeau, 47, has attempted to regain the narrative by focusing on issues that matter to Canadians. On Friday in Toronto, where shootings are on the rise, he announced an assault rifle ban and restrictions on handguns. Visiting the city of Brampton in Ontario province yesterday, Mr Trudeau promised to cut taxes and mobile phone bills.

Mr Trudeau’s popularity had declined even before blackface after an ethics scandal, his purchase of an oil pipeline and a clumsy India trip. “This is going to dog him for some time,” said Kate Harrison, vice-president of the public affairs firm Summa Strategies. “There is going to be a constituency of people that he will not get back.”

    Here's you:
If Trump did this, those in here wondering what all the fuss is about would be calling for impeachment. CNN would be covering the protests. Total hypocrisy.

    You compared the two.
As I said one has no bearing on the other except in the minds of those peddling the Americanised culture wars because they watch too many randos on youtube.
Also as I said, CNN covered it all day and the following day.

As it stands he's still the most popular party leader in Canada. The story is getting old already.

Don Jnr calls out Joy Behar for once wearing blackface and she denies it, liberals online are losing it defending her, but she/they must have a short memory as she actually admitted it on The View last year.

In the span of around ten seconds he also calls out Whoopi for trivializing Roman Polanski's sex crimes, they should have him on more often.

    https://twitter.com/jason_howerton/status/1192493447464271876

Not that there is anything wrong with Joy dressing how she did imv, but it's the hypocrisy of their faux outrage when others are revealed to have dressed similarly which needs to be called out and nice to see for once it is being.
