Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know in2detailing who I bought a good bit of stuff from ain't shipping outside the UK atm...interested to hear where most people are gonna get their stuff now.

I know they say "shop local" etc but I ain't gonna shop local when the prices of Irish shops are "inflated" to put it politely

Yea I dealt with Barry a good bit and usually get my Bilt Hamber stuff from them..no complaints there, sound out! Just wondering will we incur any fees going forward as they cross the border...

I use The Detailing Company for Gyeon products. I think the last time delivery was only €5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭vectra

As far as I am aware, anything from the UK costing under €22 inc. P&P is duty free.
But I THINK, anything from the North is ok * for now *

Placed an order with Blok51 on Sunday. Arrived today, no issues. It was for a bit over £50. Doesn't look like any customs/border issues thankfully

Well my Ldil Parkside pressure washer has finally packed it in lads so I'm on the lookout for a new one. I don't need anything major as I just use it for washing the cars and cleaning the patio concrete, I'm leaning towards the Karcher K2 full control. A local place has a Wilks-USA RX510 at a good price too but know nothing about that brand. Am I better off just going with the Karcher?

    Cheers, lads.

Owned two Karchhers, one packed in after 2 years, the current K4 pisses water from the innards, hard to recommend them. Had a Nilfisk and while not sexy and yellow, never gave a days trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Had a Nilfisk for a few years before buying a kranzle, the Nilfisk was pretty much flawless reliability wise. Hoses are too short my liking though and standard lance is to awkward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,561 ✭✭✭Duff

Never thought to look at Nilfisk! Any recommended series? Ideally don't want to spend more than €150.

Get the nilfisk c120 series...I did get mine while it was on offer from Amazon in the good days, not sure where you'd pick one up now,but if you do get one,the trigger gun from the lads at blok51 (or any other reputable retailer) makes a great addition to it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,882 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

nilfisk I got a C140 a good few years ago, was on bargain alerts and its been great. I put an adaptor on to quick release so I have the little sprayer connections and the foam lance goes on as well would highly recommend the same to anyone

Any recommendations on what to seal a cloth convertible roof with, lads? The roof on my girlfriends Mini was in an awful way with grime and algae. Used a combo of Bilt Hamber Surfex HD and the Autoglym soft top cleaner and protectant and it came up really well. The Autogylm protectant is good for 6 months apparently, but I'm just wondering if there is anything more permanent out there?

    Cheers.

Just seen that Car Chem are doing a great mystery box deal at the minute. 6x500ml bottles of random products for £9.99 or 6x1Ltr for £16.99. Not sure what postage is to Ireland as I'm living in Belfast at the moment so it was only £3 for postage. Maybe you could use parcel motel or similar if postage is mad?

Got the 6 litre bottles myself because I've no self control. Going to get a black eye from the misses when they arrive because I just stocked up on a Bilt Hamber products and a new pressure washer last week :pac:

Ah, that's steep enough. I suppose it'd be worth it for the litre bundle if you knew what you were getting :pac:

I'll shortly be taking delivery of a new car that has piano black interior trim (not my first choice but all that was available). I know that it will smudge and scratch easily, and I've seen many suggestions for using wax or ceramic wax on the interior too, but I wanted to check whether this is good advice? I'd like to do it as soon as I get the car so it's protected immediately.

Any suggestions for what I could use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

I wouldn't put wax on the interior of a car. Wax is made for the exterior, not for soft interior plastics.

A few good interior products I have used are:

    Meguiars Interior Detailer
    Gtechniq C6 Matte Dash
    BMW Plastic care liquid

In reality you won't get a product that will prevent scratching on interior trim. The only way to do that is to never touch it.

I’d consider getting it wrapped in a PPF.

Could anyone tell me what type of hose connections these are? My father is looking for a longer hose for his pressure washer (wilks USA is the brand I think) and I'm not 100% what kind he needs.

    Cheers lads

    Is being them to either of the following ;

    1. Reflect Autocare in Dublin 11
    2. JJ Gillan & Co Ltd. On Old Airport Road.

I’ve used both of these to get 30m hoses and connections back to my power washer/hose reel and then added quick connections for all accessories like Lance, snow foam etc

Lads I'm going to bite the bullet and get a paint correction done on the car. Not keen on going down the ceramic road so wonder what other options do I have for something long lasting. Thanks

    You have several option.
Cheapest being possibly Soft99 Fusso. > A great all rounder.

Personally I would look at Sonax PNS ( Lasts approx 6 months )

Then use a light mist of Sonax BSD as a drying aid to keep it super glossy, I find this combo is very good at repelling dirt.

I'd go down the route of Sonax liked above,Gtechniq C2v3 or maybe Carpro Lite

I have Gyeon can coat on my car and I just top it up with wet coat every few months

Can I ask why you're not keen on a ceramic coating?

Ceramic is the best option if you're going to go to the expense of a paint correction, specifically Gtechniq Crystal Serum. You won't get any other option that will prevent swirls etc. as well as this does.

Of course you can go the route you're suggesting with something like Gtechniq C2V3, CarPro Reload, Gtechniq EasyCoat, CarPro HydrO2 etc. but these will do little by way of preventing swirls.

To my mind it's akin to going to the expense of building a lovely garage and leaving the floor bare concrete meaning it will be very dusty as opposed to getting it sealed.

Mainly cost tbh. Its a 13 year old car at the end of the day tbh. The other reason is that ive heard is that if I was ever in a tip that it would be difficult to respray the damage cos of the ceramic coating. Or am I misled ?

If I did go with a ceramic coating though would touchless washing become easier or more achievable ?

It can be stripped if needed but why let that stop you if you are doing the detail anyway.

Be a bit mad re spraying, just stay out of crashes.

Not really, no matter what coating you have you always require contact to do a proper wash.

i've got a glue stain on my dashboard - how do i get it off?

    thanks,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Don't use tar and glue remover because this has the potential to melt the dash material. Instead try Sticky Stuff Remover or HG Sticker Remover. Be careful with it and have a wet cloth to hand to immediately remove the residue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

HG really are an excellent brand, for all sorts of stain removing (car & household)

    fryup wrote: »

    True.

I had glue residue on the dash of my previous car from a phone mount. The HG stuff removed it easily and left the dash in perfect condition so I can attest to its safety but still, have a wet cloth to hand and wipe it down a few times afterwards including with some APC.

Anyone know what the vinny byrne touch up markers actually are?

Are they the same as any other pen/market and not remotely a pen or a market, and just a vial with a nail polish brush.

Anyone used Koch Chemie products before? The missus' car needs a good paint correction as it's covered in light swirls and marring. My go to has usually been Scholl S20 for one step correction, but I've been reading good things about Koch Chemie's one cut & finish used in combination with their one step pads..
