Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

so what would be best as i dont feel car needs the full works again yet, would 2bm and quick detailer be best, the point i was trying to put forward since car is waxed and mostly still protected polishing would only strip the wax already applied would it not?

Has it been washed at all over the last 4 months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭deaglan169

it has had one wash and a spray of quick detailer, car sits up monday to friday mostly so doesnt get too dirty, last time i used 2bm and lambwool mitt i covered car in scratches i think it picked up grit from the channel around bump strip on side doors

    Lads, I've a question.

Meant to do it last year, but the OH got rid of that car.

Now he has a 00 E Class with a few scrapes, and manky seats.

We've a local firm who will do a great job according to my mech who recommends them

Sound like a good anniversary present?

Depends, is he into his car? If so then ya, a full out valet or even detail would be a decent idea, if he's not, then no... :P

I'm nearly finished detailing my car and wondering has anyone used OA Perfection over CG Jetseal?

    It should be fine.

Over the last while my snow foam lance hasn't been foaming as well as it should so this morning I took it apart and cleaned it. Very easy to do but I should probably wait to say that until it has been tested!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭vectra

    My standard procedure now is.
    Use faom Lance.
While foam is dwelling I blow a half container of diluted apc through it and put it away. Seems to be foaming better than ever. :)

I might start doing this. I usually just flush it through with water and I did get a year out of it without having to do anything major. Someone else here was suggesting just running a bit of neat APC though it after each use. I'll just work out whichever is easier and do that :P

    Yes,
    Neat or diluted 1:1
I use diluted and no problems so far.

I don't know what the hell is going on with peoples' lances. I've had mine since 2010 and I've used it a lot and never actually cleaned it out and it's still perfect!

I live in a very hard water area.
    Full of limescale.
    Water butt may help.

Same here - haven't had to clean or replace the gauze ever, and I probably use the SF lance a bit more than the average bear.

I follow the same simple procedure every time, i.e. unscrew the bottle from the lance when finished, and squeeze the trigger for a minute letting clean water flush through the gauze. Then, after disconnecting the lance from the hose, tip it up, and with the trigger squeezed, let any trapped water drain back out, so that you can put it away dry.

In fairness, I don't live in a hard water area.

I do live in a hard water area, own well and all. It's bad enough that if I don't hand dry the car after a wash, there's very bad lime marks all over it. It makes even a newly waxed car feel like there's no protection on it at all.

Basically I'm going cleaning my car tomorrow and the front of it is caked in insects and flies and I always struggle to get them of the rest of the is clean by the end of washing it but I always end up with marks left on the front bumper from the insect. Ideally something I can get in halfords.

Here's a few I seen any of them any good or any other suggestions.
    AG insect remover

    simoniz bug shifter

turtle wax tar and bug remover

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

None of those. I told muppetcheck to soak a few microfibres (or any towel you like) in water, preferably hot and leave it on the front of the car. Think about the water as a glue remover. It softens the dried-on insect remains and makes them a doddle to remove. MC said it worked a treat for him.

You're in Kildare TP. I think she should bring it straight to Spirit Detailing. He uses special enzyme treatments to remove the bacteria that causes the bad smell. It may cost a bit but it'll be worth it in the long run.

It would be, but we're talking about someone who refuses to sort out a busted shock, bald tyres and various other things, not a hope she'l do that :o (i've lectured her on it already)

I was thinking hot soapy water and cloth?

To be honest, you're at nothing. once something like that spills in a car, the only way to get rid of it is the right way. Anything else will just cover it up but it will always come back in my experience.

You will 100% never ever get the smell of spilt milk out of a car properly (unless letting a pro at it). My mum spilt some in a car a few years back, smell never went, only went when the car was sold on :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭randy hickey

The solution to this problem has been around for donkey's years.

Autosmart Bio Brisk, mixed with warm water to activate it, literally digests the bacteria that give off the foul smelling odours from body fluid spillages (sh1t, p1ss, puke), and also milk.

    The truth is out there........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭vectra

What Randy said. I used some Bio Brisk in one of my cars once that had spilled milk when I was returning from the shop.
Never got a smell out of the car.
    Great stuff.

To those of us who have a good handle on the English language, that would read as though it didn't work.

Has anyone here used the 50 cal range of products? Always used menzerna/dodo juice/ chemical guys which i sourced off cleancar.ie but they are now gone. Looking at the detailingshed now and i like the look of them but want to know if there is any substance behind the flash packaging? Specifically polishing products and the penta wax.

    Wel,
To me and I assume to most others there is a massive difference between the words,

"Never got a smell out of the car"

"Never got THE smell out of the car" ;)

Tipp Top of the day to you sir. :p

Specifically polishing products and the penta wax.

Fortress the polish, is only a hand polish. Not used it too much but does a decent job at restoring colour, dephth and shine, but as with any hand polish it wont to much more than remove light oxidation.

Penta wax is very nice to work with. Very easy to apply and remove! Durable for a wax that is similar in application and removable to that of soft waxes. Smells great too!

    Not me.
I spoke with Dave about this and told him I would not be taking advantage of his situation.
It is bad enough one Supplier closing down in this country without driving what is left out of business.

If many, many people jumped on the bandwagon and ordered in the region of €10k worth of products,
He would have to let them go for €6.5k

How do you think this would affect his business?

Not for me I am afraid,

    Totally uncalled for. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

It's not like he was forced to offer that in the first place! Not anyone's fault that Ireland happened to score 7 goals and that he said 5% per goal.

Also, it was only for a day or 2 so he didn't do himself TOO much damage.

Utter nonsense. If a company makes a claim like that they should be capable and prepared to back it up. The betting on the game was Ireland minus 6 goals so it wasn't that much of a stretch to expect 7 goals, the talk all week was of breaking the 8 goal record....

That aside I'm sure Dave won't be going out of business, as a result, not making much money for sure but getting plenty extra customers and some very positive publicity. I personally wouldn't have seen it at all only that it was actually a sponsored post on Facebook. So to expect people not to take it up is rubbish.

I sent my own payment as a gift as to offset a tiny bit of the fees.

All in all I say 100% fair play, I sell detailing products myself but any extra bits I need for personal use in the future I will order from Dave, so no doubt it will have worked out better for himself in the long run.

Weren't you very thoughtful now to make payment a gift. :P

    Pipe down lads! :D

Should really have capped it at a certain %, but I didnt and couldnt go back on the offer that I said I'd do. Would have been worse for the business if I did; I reckon!
Thought Ireland would have scored 4, maybe 5....and that would have been ideal for us, to be at break even point!!

Yes, we lost out quite a bit on the offer....but sure look, it has gotten a few people taking, which hopefully will mean good exposure and as a result, we'll see the benefit down the line. It's just hard to see that now. One or two ranges that we were hoping to add, will have to wait a while longer, and will take us a bit of time to get stock levels back to ideal levels, so that we're no having Out of Stock issues!
    We'll get through it though!

Hope everyone enjoys working on their cars, and post a few pictures when your done! :)

So you're telling me that you have never taken advantage of any offer?

    Oh yes I did indeed.
    BUT
there is a difference in getting 5%, 10% or even 15% off with a big company.
But in fairness taking 35% off a small company trying to get by is similar to doing an Enda Kenny on the people of Ireland. :D

I've spent a LOT of money on stuff from Dave over the years but I didn't take advantage of this offer myself.

Fair play to you for not jumping on it.

    I respect you for that.

I do see where you're coming from BUT I would think Dave would have been equally insulted if people didn't buy stuff.

Also, there's a difference between people like you and me who are always buying stuff from him and someone who signs up just for the offer. Of course, the hope is that they will continue to buy from Detailing Shed in the future and I hope this rings true!
