That is actually slightly different as that was developed for the original Xbox and PS2 which hadn't any hope of running the actual Battlefield 2 game even cut down, so they made MC instead, which was decent enough.

They re-released it on Xbox 360, it was the same base/core game with much better visuals, effects and improved assets. A bit like comparing an original game (say, Halo or Mass Effect) with a re-master (say Halo Anniversay or Mass Effect remastered).

Also it made more sense to re-release MC on the 360 as it was already an Xbox game....they could easily have ported the full Battlefield 2 over to 360, but that would have been a significantly bigger undertaking and wouldn't have been worth it at that stage.

It would be like if they had tried to get BFV or BF1 running on the Xbox 360 or PS3. It just wouldn't be possible and would also have necessitated a different build altogether.

BF6 will be broadly speaking the same base game with lower fidelity and less players, same as BF4 was on 360/PS3 v PS4/XB1.

The big thing is that as time goes on the gap between console and PC has become almost non existant, so there's less need to tailor games to console platforms with the current gen.

When the Xb1 and PS4 were first released, their processors were considered low-end/obsolete on day one and it showed in quite a lot of very CPU heavy games.

Whereas The PS5 and Series X processors are superior to probably 90% of average gaming PCs at present.

Everyone loves a good redemption story. Big expectations, hoping it works out for em.

Hopefully it's not the leaked trailer either for an extra surprise!

Slick looking ui , fingers crossed they deliver.
I need a great BF game back in my life.
BF4 is solid still but after over 1k hours played going back feels a bit dated but worse than all the PC servers have plenty of hackers.

    4 man squads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,452 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

christ no...no single player nonsense and no damn BR mode. That ship has sailed.
Just focus on delivering a MP experience as good as BF2 and BC2.

I was watching it too, as were more than a quarter million others. I had expected some kind of pre-show hype, but annoyingly it was nothing more than a separate stream for the countdown alone.

Like they have to know people don't like these, everyone always expects the steam to start properly or as said with a little bit of a pre roll / show. They'd have build some buffer into it to allow to fix any issues but another full hour.

Battlefield isn't starting this from a strong position. Continuing from BFV, the initial reveal, the 50% discount 2 weeks into the game to really piss off anyone who paid full price, each patch seemed to break it in a new way messing with the balance, and then they drop support after starting to get it right.

There's not much difference from a hype train or a big ol negative dog pile, could they not think a bit and try to push it in their favour.

I'm hopeful that this turns out to be good. played some bf4 over the weekend for the first time in about 2 years, I was surprised at the high TTK, it was much longer than I remembered, having spent the last few years playing CoD.
The WW1 and WW2 settings of recent games just didnt do it for me, so at the very least I'm happy to get back to modern / near future timelines.

    - Release October 15

    - 7 vast maps for up to 128 players

" Battlefield 2042 introduces 7 vast maps for up to 128* players. From Seoul’s cities to Egypt’s deserts, every map offers a unique experience based on the natural environment. "

"Customize weapons, gadgets and vehicles in-battle to tip the scales in your favor. Summon a robotic dog built for battle, employ a grappling hook or don your very own wingsuit. Choose your role on the battlefield and form hand-tailored squads through the new Specialist system. Based on Battlefield’s four Classes, Specialists have one unique Specialty and Trait – but the rest of the loadout is fully customizable."

    Perks:

Open Beta early access, Baku ACB-90 melee takedown knife, “Mr. Chompy” Epic Weapon Charm, "Landfall" Player Card Background, "Old Guard" Tag
4 New Specialists (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass), 4 Battle Passes (1 per Season of the Year 1 Pass), 3 Epic Skin Bundles (”Blistered Earth”, ”Tempest”, and ”Cold Blood”)
"Shadow Stalker" Legendary Outfit, "Obsidian" Legendary Weapon Skin, "Onyx" Legendary Vehicle Skin"
Official Digital Artbook and Exclusive Digital Soundtrack

    Specialists= 128 man sniper fest :confused::confused::confused::(:(:(

I'm really looking forward to cross-platform so I can play with my mates. But if they don't sort out the PC hacking that is currently ruining BFV this will be a disastrous own-goal for the series.

TTK in new COD games is why i dont play them, hate it.
As for the reveal, nothing surprising at all, means nothing until we see proper gameplay then get to play it.

No single player - praise the Lord!!!

It seems to be a return to the old style of trailer at least, and nothing like the BFV trailer and it's overstuffed attempt to show case all it's new features in a misleading muddle. There's some dark humour in the form of the lads trying to escape in the taxi, and the callback to the Rendezooking of an enemy plane. I wonder if that's an attempt to appeal to past players from before BFV?

When you're as old as me and think...hey Battlefield 2142 prequel!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,872 ✭✭✭djan

Not a great trailer that seemed all over the place, especially given the epic behemots of the past. The way characters were running around like ants nearly melee fighting all the time didn't look too great, graphically parts of it seemed to lack too. Definitely will need to see gameplay to get a better feel for it.

Main thing is that visibility and gunplay is improved since the last one. Would love the strong atmosphere of BF1 with the map design, gameplay of BF3/4 and the quirkiness and creative modes like Titan of 2142.

yeah, silly thing to include, surprised they didnt show fellas putting a load of c4 and ammo boxes under a tank to launch it to the far side of the map.

also - why are 50 lads on a roof fighting a CQB, and why is there a quadbike on the roof also?

I'm still optimistic, gameplay reveal next week will tell a lot.

So single player is dropped. A little surprised at that, but focussing on the MP is still better.

  • Registered Users Posts: 995 ✭✭✭iColdFusion

They seemed to be trying to tick too many fan favorite boxes like Damavand peak, Shanghai Tower, rendezook, there was one good city map with helicopters in the past too.
Disappointed by a lack of destruction on show and will be very disappointed if no single player is confirmed, hope they at least do some sort of co-op mode.

Strange move, all right. There was some beautiful missions with epic moment like the Jet mission, Shanghai and basically all of BF1. Would have thought that a short singleplayer campaign wouldn't be too resource intensive compared to multi-player.

There's offline play against bots, which can include other human players as a squad, but no proper co-op or campaign.

    Good summation, specialists tho :/

    Wikus "Casper" Van Daele
    Birthplace: South Africa
    Class: Recon
Specialty: OV-P Recon Drone (what it sounds like, a remote control spotting drone)
Trait: Movement Sensor (he's alerted to people sneaking up behind him, at least if they move too quickly)

    Webster Mackay
    Birthplace: Canada
    Class: Assault
Specialty: Grappling Hook (the "zip and you're there" kind, not the swinging kind)
    Trait: Nimble (he moves fast)

    Maria Falck
    Birthplace: Germany
    Class: Support
Specialty: S21 Syrette Pistol (heals or revives from a distance, like Doc in Rainbow Six Siege)
Trait: Combat Surgeon (revives teammates to full health, instead of partial health)

    Pyotr "Boris" Guskovsky
    Birthplace: Russia
    Class: Engineer
Specialty: SG-36 Sentry Gun (like Team Fortress 2 or Overwatch's turrets)
Trait: Sentry Operator (sentry guns are more effective when he's nearby)

The whole class system and synergies they talk about sounds too much like overwatch, valorant, apex etc to fit a BF game or does it?
Not hyped until i see raw gunplay gameplay.

I haven't watched the video, but in fairness, there was always a kind of synergy if everyone in the squad played their class properly - recon using gadgets to mark targets (as opposed to hiding off in the hills trying to kill people), engineer repairing vehicles, medic getting revives etc.

Nothing in the reveal that would make me consider pre order but it is very early days. Although modern setting, sandbox and no single player are all positives in my opinion. Leveloution could work very well with 2 or 3 things on a level that can be changed by players and weather effects the level randomly.

The 62.99 and 71.99 versions look to be exactly the same, so must be a glitch or something, (edit - actually, the cheaper one is the xbox one version only, and the other is the series s/x version only)

Interesting. I'm reading people saying they won't buy day 1 because not having single player devalues it despite the fact that these people favour multiplayer. It's crazy to me that people still live by quantity over quality when it comes to price.
People who preordered BFV got stung really badly because it was heavily discounted days after launch

I don’t think this will happen this time though because BFV was rushed and not finished at launch and hopefully EA have learned their lesson
