    Bring back Battlefield Vietnam! :D

Good riddance to single player mode.
Brought no value add whatsoever and just took away valuable resources from multiplayer.
Battlefield always has and always will be multiplayer.

Exactly. Never liked the single player mode in any of the games.

With the lack of campaign, maybe the AI vs Bots will be good to help with learning the maps and getting people familiar with the mechanics without getting hockeyed in multiplayer lobbies. Fighting against bots probably more fun that pottering around on an empty firing range. I'm curious about how the AI will handle all the vehicles, planes, helis etc!

Curious to see the gameplay on Sunday and what else they have up their sleeve.

    Each to their own but I quite enjoyed Bad company 1 & 2, BF3 & BF4 campaigns, BF1 & V were decent but didn't quite grab me.

BF3 & 4 campaigns had some great set pieces with loads of destruction that they couldn't do in multiplayer and I had loads of fun in BF3 co-op mode.

I hope 2042 multiplayer is super polished from day one because it got extra resources but my guess is they just cut back on developers to save money or they will just release single player in 6 months time as a €30 add on pack

I had expected them to jump forward in time for this one but I wasn't expecting it to be to a year where there is a high likelihood I'd be dead :D

All he made recently was nine infraction points and a site ban.

It does feel somewhat for the first time there is level enough expectation and wants from both the PC and console side that an old school battlefield could thrive on all formats. Which is probably a big part of why DICE might feel confident enough to release a game in that form, no formal campaign, big focus on multiplayer.

It's not a prequel to 2142 as the background story they released has key differences (big one being the European Union a faction in 2142 collapses in this version of 2042)

I am curious how the 128 players will play out. You can already see them making big changes to conquest with it in mind by replacing the flags with territories now with multiple capture points.

But how will that affect spawning. Can you only spawn in on a secured territory or can you spawn in on each individual point thats captured?

The fact that both sides get HQ territory now makes me wonder if it means the game will be much stricter on spawn camping or if it will mean the return of bases ala Battlefield 2.

The plotline does make a big point that there is no internet in the game's timeline, all satellites have been destroyed (explaining why the rocket launch is important) so that could have an actual gameplay effect.

Still not sure about the specialists myself. I did like the idea of classes being subdivided with specialists when this was first brought up in BFV but I imagined it being more like recreating older Battlefield game classes by picking specific specializations for each class would shift them to play more like the spec ops from BF2 or the BF bad company 2 version of the medic etc.

Not this whole character deal that we got in BFV (and I never bothered with) and now again in 2042.

But I understand the characters actually made a lot of money for EA in BFV so no surprise that of all of BFV's ideas thats the one they keep.

I was wanting Rush. I miss rush :(

I actually find when you get used to modes like Rush/Breakthrough, regular Conquest is a bit boring.

128 players is great but I hope that doesn't simply mean the maps are twice as big.

MAG did big numbers the best. You had attackers on the outside pushing in and defenders falling back until you had one final battle in the middle.

The issue with BF is everyone just goes around a big map in circles capturing a flag and moving on.

I think thats why they are changing it to territories now instead.

Each territory will have multiple points to capture instead of one before you can claim the territory.

What's still unknown is if those individual points will have an effect or how spawning on territories will work.

It could play a bit closer to the RTS Company of Heroes where the individual points give points towards spawning vehicles (now players can request airdrops of vehicles from anywhere on the map) and other abilities so there could be actual strategic value to holding a point even if you cant secure the whole territory.

I.m surprised there's no battle royale mode
I think there, ll be new specialists released with special perks after the game is released but you ll have to buy them as in rainbow 6 seige
So next year's cod is going back to world war 2 while battlefield is going
    for a scifi futuristic theme

I am guessing "Hazard Zone" is the battle royale mode

They would be foolish to not release a BR next year, too much money to be made from it....as long as it's not anything like Firestorm!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,179 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

    Accordingly....

EA Play/Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will receive special benefits.

    - Free 10-hour trial starting October 15
    - Beta Early Access
    - Monthly rewards
    - 10% off the Battlefield 2042 pre-order

    Sweet. Try before you buy.

I'm not surprised. It sounds like DICE have really listened closely to the community and are doing what they do best and that is just to focus on massive multiplayer game modes and remove all other distractions like SP and BR.

I hope Breakthrough mode is included.
Conquest is just too much too-ing and fro-ing.
While BFV is not amazing playing Breakthrough offers up some great gameplay, plenty of full servers on PC.

Agree about conquest, I could never take to it. Breakthrough is going to be there thankfully.

Breakthrough/new redesigned conquest are in the new all out warfare mode

Hazard Zone is a new a squad mode but Dice have stressed its not a battle royale mode.

My guess is it'll be something closer to Escape from Tarkov or Hunt Showdown. Battle Royale like but not actually battle royale.

It'll be some sort of competitive mode where multiple squads face off against each other to get the thing and then get out. With probably some AI mob element thrown in

Then there is something DICE LA are cooking up which we wont know anything about til July. But again stressed not battle royale.

But it has been said it'll be something for old school battlefield fans to appreciate.

So a lot of people are betting on Titan mode returning

I'm going to buck the trend and say it wont be titan mode, but I do think a revamped commander mode might make an appearance in some form in it.

    Please god not Titan mode.

2142 is the runt of the litter.

Anyway if 2042 is **** its my fault for preordering it.

So EA have said that the source code for the Frostbite engine was taken in a hack.

New engine could be released by hackers before the game is out.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

I'd just like a return to good maps for Rush.

BC2 and BF3 had brilliant maps (Metro aside :pac:) for Rush, BF4 were quite poor in comparison. Only really ended up playing CQ or Obliteration on BF4.

Barely played BF1 or 5, so can't comment on the game modes/maps in those games.

Disappointing trailer, looks a mess. I've bought all iterations over the years and hoped that the new release would give me an excuse to buy a new graphics card after mine died, but probably won't bother.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,515 ✭✭✭Outkast_IRE

I think the supply drop and war pigeon modes in BF1 were alot of fun and ensured there was movement all over the map.

Trailer had too much going on. Pretty sure they were jus trying to please all bf fans. The urban crowds, jungle lovers, etc

Actual gameplay footage is the big thing to see.

Yeah , as soon as the trailer ended my first thought was no wonder it took so long its 5mins of cgi type trailer and i would much rather of seen gameplay or else a trailer that utilised the in game engine.
