Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was surprised geoffs wasn,t reopened earlier they have plenty of outdoor space both outback and out front; hopefully geoffs is reopened soon too.

Id say they may be holding on until 5th July. With any luck they will have some new staff too. There are some shower of up their own arses **** in that place, strutting around like they work in the White House, awful attitudes on some of them. Its a pub nothing more nothing less, i have absolutely no idea where they get their notions from!

Fairly chaotic yesterday in the Yard at the back of the Woodman but its a great set up there and the service will get better as the staff get used to the new normal.

Anyone know if Jack Meade's is fully open again?

just seen there they added a few 75 inch TVs

Hoping ill get in there tomorrow night, from passing a few places it seems a small issue is there's very few (if any) smaller tables for 1/2 people. 1 person could end up taking up a 6 person table etc. Problem is places cant discriminate either

Jack meades is open alright, I know someone who had a few pints there on Monday and enjoyed it.

With only 59 ppl in hospitals around Ireland [23 in ICUs] and over 3 mil vaccines administered [50% 1 doses; 25% 2 doses] isn't it a bit crazy the real pubs have to wait till next month to open??? We have wallowed in the bad news feeds for so long why not let the people get back to normal living... and now please???

It is the same reason as the whole COVID response in Ireland. The whole thing is just skewed in favour of pandemic precautions and no balance with the rest of society, mental health, life, business etc.

Any places with decent outside seating have large TVs to watch the Euro 2020 on besides the Woodman?

Was in the Yard the other night, brilliant setup esp if the weather is good. Few teething issues mainly trying to get served but that will improve with time

I imagine the area will become a permanent fixture even when indoor reopens ?

Question: Do all bars have to provide table service, even if outside (obviously it's only outside at the moment)? I was in a place this afternoon (don't want to name and shame just yet), place was rammed, but everyone had to queue at the hatch for their pints.

To make matter worse I got a dirty glass for my 2nd pint; various marks on the outside of the glass and even bit of food stuck to the rim. It was so busy I didn't bother complaining but just left shortly afterward. I was in the same place last Summer (outside service) and it was a hell of a lot better; table service and clean glasses.

Personally it you don't mind going outside the city I couldn't recommended the cove more. The best food hands down of any pub in Waterford and a gorgeous pint of Guinness. Seriously good food.

    Pinks is a great spot.

Seems they got lots of negative reviews at the start but from what I see a lot of people genuinely like it and to be fair they have an excellent outdoor area.

As the local phrase goes "tis better dan nothin boy!".
Betcha you would be complaining if there wasnt such a restaurant in Waterford.
And vice versa. Everyone is an annoying critic these days. Live and let live. Life is way too short. This past year+ should have changed peoples outlooks somewhat but people being people they will revert to type when the danger passes:rolleyes:

Upstairs area in The Reg would be a good bet but you'd have to book asap. The Yard @ The Woodman is another place that's well equipped for it.

Yeah it's not the biggest of spaces up there and because it's relatively covered from the elements, there's no hope of you walking in off the street and getting one on a whim.

Tierneys formally Kervicks/bull and Green is a decent setup and the outdoor area is good

Saw on FB the Exchange reopening on the 26th July but the government aren't making a decision on indoor hospitality til Wednesday this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,742 ✭✭✭Wanderer2010

And they brought back that ignorant barman too, who was in the Bull and Green, cant believe that! They had their chance to change the guard and they pick the worst person possible to deal with the public. Anyone who goes there will know who im talking about. They lost my business anyway.

Heading down to your fine city this weekend, staying in Dooleys.

Any recommendations for somewhere to watch the Rugby? Best places to swig pints in general?

    Thanks....

I attempted to go the The Woodman for the Euros final and didnt happen (queue outside and then the aul two or three lads five mates join the queue and said enough of that)

Ended up in Sinnotts smoking area (before indoor was open) and was a good mixed crowd with fast and friendly staff

As far as I know The Three Ships is the rugby pub in town. I could be wrong on this. The cove and the uluru are proper rugby pubs but they are outside the city centre.

What's the pub scene like now in the city? Most places now open? Is it easy enough to find a place for a few beers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,888 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

City Arms reopened fairly recently (its was quite the place last year) and the Gingerman is open a few days a week. With indoor reopening it does seem easier to get into places but still a lot of places only serving outdoor

Depends on the time of day/night really, weekends were a nightmare the last few weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,708 ✭✭✭Speak Now

What's made City Arms quite the place? I was in there pre covid and it was pretty soulless. Seemed to be just a spot for carvery not a few pints.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,888 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Lets just say the lads in there very pretty lax at times regarding the regulations at the time during last years brief openings (€9 meal times)

I agree with you about the place pre covid, sometimes it was pretty soulless and boring

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭friendlyfun

I remember the last owner, kinda heavy chap. I had been to a few functions there but it always looked like they struggled to get people in there and they did. Was often there with some friends and we were the only ones there basically. Last owner closed up last year I think and new crowd took over.
